Falcon Jane's second album Faith started coming together at the beginning of 2019 when Sara May, the artist behind the band, experienced a string of deaths in her family. Attending a seemingly endless number of traditional Catholic funerals within the space of a year caused May to dive inwards, reassessing her own notions of memory, grief, love, ceremony and identity. "Music is how I process vulnerable emotions like sadness and grief," she says, "and for me these funerals were traumatic in a way." Faith is a way of excavating her truth through clear-eyed self-examination. "This album is just as much about trying to figure out what kind of person I am as it is about death," she says. "Where do my beliefs lie? Am I a good person? There needed to be a big collapse in order to grow. A total exhale so that I could breathe in new life, new faith." This new faith is presented in "Heaven", a track that culminates these internal struggles with an idyllic, peaceful state. "That's where I'm trying to get to," May adds. "The rest of the songs are doing the hard work to try to get there."

The result is "About Love And Loving Again", perhaps the artist's most dense and intimate album to date - in seven long and slow songs Kjellvander celebrates tranquility, lets every sound speak, weaves warmly and the melodies float around the very personal and profound lyrics. Christian Kjellvander develops his music out of Alternative Country, lets free jazz and lo-fi flow in, delivers dense singer-songwriting and creates songs that seem like a softly rushing undertow. You may find it hard to believe, but this complex sound, whose dynamics range from almost silence to unbridled expressive wide screen format, was recorded by a minimal trio in a Stockholm basement studio and mostly live. This fits Kjellvander's demand for authenticity, because according to himself, with "About Love And Loving Again" he wants one thing above all else: "to be true and vulnerable.

(a tongue-in-cheek reference to U2's 1991 hit record) Jerome is joined by Alan Averill of metal cult band PRIMORDIAL. Indeed, the features and guest appearances are numerous on this record. This shows the fact that, through years of composing high quality albums, ROME has become a secret authority in the European underground as a songwriter's songwriter. And thus, Reuter, a poet with the soul of a warrior, has managed to assemble an impressive/stellar cast of guest vocalists. Most notably is the guest appearance of BEHEMOTH's Adam Nergal Darski on the seminal "The Angry Cup", on which Nergal not only performs lead vocals but adds an intriguingly brutal Polish incantation. Further guests are Joseph D. Rowland of US-doom band PALLBEARER, J.J. of Austria's HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY, as well as Laure Le Prunenec of metal-opera act IGORRR, who delivers the phenomenally eerie layered vocals on "Palmyra". At the centre of these songs we find the individual mediating between a sense of history and an experience of the world. ROME illuminates us on the fact that art is to make our world whole and comprehensible, restoring it to us in all its glory and all its darkness, not through argument but through feeling and thus closing the gap between individuals and thus transcending from feeling to meaning.
