Groan play stoner doomy rock, I don’t know if it would be fair to call them metal but they will be liked primarily by metal crowd – you know the drill we have seen that situation many times in our music world. It should be said that the lyrics on “The Divine Right of Kings” are dealing with such arcane topics as execution of Charles I and Middle Ages in general, that well of inspiration is unending source of inspiration for bands of all brands and it seems that such well cannot be dried as Groan among other prove with their craft. The music on “The Divine Right of Kings” goes through various moods, from up-tempo rock to slow wicked parts and everything is led by high charismatic vocals that are employed to grab the vibe Groan were clearly after. For the inspiration of Groan find the answer simply in the name of the track “How Black was Our Sabbath” – yes, the forefathers of metal can be felt through and through “The Divine Right of Kings” which is not weird at all as this sound stems from their root anyway. All in all, “The Divine Right of Kings” is not some groundbreaking record but its feel good mood and cool composition can clearly appeal to all the fans of the genre so they are well advised to check this one out.
