Nestling in the sizeable grey area between indie and experimentalism, we find Sweet Billy Pilgrim. With their second album, Twice Born Men, the trio of Tim Elsenburg, Anthony Bishop and Alistair Hamar provide another fascinating antidote to the falsehood and artifice prevalent in current pop music. Staggering in like three lost souls sheltering from the raging storm, Sweet Billy Pilgrim create tiny symphonies in a vacuum. Twice Born Men – a loose concept about love – (''but not in a Barry White way'' Elsenburg has quipped) is a rewarding, if occasionally challenging listen. Elsenburg's music is all about texture. Found sounds and clicks weave in and out of the mix. There is even – ahem – a tuned dishwasher on Kalypso. Longshore Drift rises and swells, snapping in and out of focus, while Joy Maker Machinery is an otherworldly ballad. But there are songs here, too – Truth Only Smiles is longing pop, evoking Talk Talk and the Beach Boys. Remarkable, too, is the album's closer, There It Will End;
a hymn which features Elsenburg's voice overdubbed 30 times. Similar to their debut record, 2005’s We Just Did What Happened And No One Came, Twice Born Men sets its own space and time, demanding a listener's full attention. It revels in the peace it creates and sometimes destroys. Like the work it is sporadically reminiscent of, it's engrossing, out-of-step, difficult yet peculiarly gratifying. Signed to David Sylvian's Samadhisound label, the delightful sleeve contains as much detail about the painting on it (by Tacita Dean) as the recording itself. If that floats your boat, you will love this record

First of three projected volumes of collaborative experimental electronic works by Constellation stalwart Sandro Perri, joined on this album by Drew Brown (Lower Dens, Blonde Redhead), Susumu Mukai (Zongamin) and M J Silver (Mickey Moonlight). Celebrated Toronto-based composer, producer and songwriter Sandro Perri is one of Constellation's most long-standing and artistically diverse music-makers, known both for the pulsing, longform instrumental work released in the early 2000s as Polmo Polpo and the tropicalia-, jazz- and prog-influenced vocal music brilliantly showcased on 2011's Impossible Spaces. Over the past couple of years Perri has been letting us in on a fascinating treasure chest of strange and enchanting collaborative recordings, which, now rounded up under the project name Off World, will begin to see release over the next few seasons. Chiefly a studio-based endeavour, the project traces its origins as far back as 2008 when Perri and fellow Torontonian Lorenz Peter began working together, now expanded to encompass collaborations with many other producers and musicians, including Drew Brown (Lower Dens, Blonde Redhead), Susumu Mukai (Zongamin), M J Silver (Mickey Moonlight), Craig Dunsmuir, Jesse Zubot and Eric Chenaux. 1 is alien electronics played humanly, with real-world accents throughout, rich in deconstructed melody, interplay between acoustic and electronic instrumentation, and pointillist and aleatory composition techniques. Off World resists easy categorization: not ambient "easy listening", not strictly "improvised", not "retro" - but eccentrically absorbing and soothingly mischievous as it charts its own sonic trails.

Iain Matthews, English musician and songwriter, was singer and guitarist with Fairport Convention, before forming his own band Matthews Southern Comfort, which had a UK number one in 1970 with a cover of Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock" (it spent three weeks at number one and 23 weeks in the Top 100). Born in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire/England Iain Matthew McDonald (stage name Ian Matthews, later from 1989 again in the original spelling Iain) was a founding member of British folk rock institution Fairport Convention with Richard Thompson and Ashley Hutchings. Due to musical differences he left the band during the recording of the album “Unhalfbricking” and after a short detour in Matthews Southern Comfort he started his impressive solo career which still left enough space for him to front the bands Plainsong, Hi-Fi (feat. David Surkamp, Pavlov’s Dog), and lately Matthews Southern Comfort again. The present Rockpalast DVD/2CD shows Iain Matthews and his band at a concert in the Hamburger Markthalle in Germany from December 12th, 1983 feat. David Wintor (If, Stealers Wheel) on bass, Bruce Hazen (Hi-Fi, Life 9) on guitar and former Argent and Kinks drummer Bob Henrit. For the first time in the famous Rockpalast series this edition features a bonus CD covering all the studio versions of the songs Iain is playing live at the show! So this release is a new landmark in the history of the Rockpalast editions on DVD and CD!

Year after year the New York City we know, in constant flux, changes with some parts disappearing altogether. The Brooklyn venue where the three-piece EZTV played their first show two years ago? Gone. The East Village record store that stocked the band's first tape - shuttered. As the band watch their compatriots move out of the city to cheaper pastures, it's as if New York itself is saying: "Drop dead." Many of the band's foundational inspirations -- the Feelies' jangle, the upside-down pop architecture of Arthur Russell's The Necessaries, Shoes' aching harmonies -- are back in play on their sophomore album, though new instruments and feels abound throughout. The advantage to living in New York? Eventually all your friends come to visit. EZTV invited some like-minds into the studio -- Jenny Lewis, Chris Cohen, Martin Courtney and Matt Kallman of Real Estate, John Andrews of Quilt, Nic Hessler and Mega Bog -- to guest. Aptly recorded on a tape machine purchased from a Lower East Side Studio that was going out of business, in a space where the New York City skyline both loomed and inspired through its glass windows, High in Place is an album of ten golden pop songs worthy of any era.

Formed in 2015, Vanishing Twin came together to make an exploratory record that marries oblique English pop with a palette of arkestral sounds. Having previously released a string of conceptual cassettes under the name Orlando, founder Cathy Lucas named the group after her vanishing twin, an identical sister absorbed in utero, when they were both still a cluster of cells. Enlisting the help of producer Malcolm Catto (Heliocentrics, DJ Shadow, The Gaslamp Killer) the band began work at his London studio, Quatermass Sound Lab, last spring. Recording the basis for eight tracks, they blended structure and improvisation in pop songs that describe a personal mythology through the adventures of Lucas’ vanished twin. Drawing on sounds outside of the usual pop vocabulary, the group used forgotten drum machines, home-made electronics, vibraphones, tablas, and harp to invoke the esoteric psychedelia of lost soundtracks, radiophonic experiments and minimal music orchestras. In a studio that Catto built for maximum atmosphere and minimum interfere, and crammed with obscure vintage equipment, he brought his own distinctive sonics to the table, informed by outsider jazz, Italian library music and ethnographic field recordings. The band has previously been championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson and the Quietus. They played widely in 2015 presenting an immersive show that is equal parts crafted sound and improvised delirium. Vanishing Twin is made up of singer Cathy Lucas (Innerspace Orchestra), drummer Valentina Magaletti (Raime, Tomaga, Uuuu, Neon Neon), bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin, Floating Points), library music head Phil M.F.U. (Man From Uranus, Broadcast) on strange sounds, and film maker and visual artist Elliott Arndt on flute and percussion.

Guitar Force has been founded by Marcin Habaj – a guitarist, a composer and songwriter in 2007. The tracks promoting first and second albums have been ranked No 1 in Rdio Rzeszow Charts. “Dwa Swiaty” album has been nominated in Radio Rzeszow contest as the best album of 2013 from Podkarpacie and finished second in listeners votes contest. The “Nurt” track finished in the top 300 bands of the internet casting to “Must Be The Music”. The band gave almost 200 performances in Poland and other countries.
