Still featuring Stewart at the helm along with select collaborators as supplementation, the band's recent shift in locale from East Coast to West Coast lends a great deal to the overall feel of the new album. Pulling from the pre - "Simply Irresistible" days of early Robert Palmer and first wave pioneers such as Silicon Teens, Iron Curtain, Lives of Angels, and Solid Space, Black Marble dialed in on a clear understanding of its own specific sound, showcased most clearly on this new release with Stewart becoming more comfortable in being clear with what he's trying to say, both subjectively, in terms of the stories he's telling and the things he's willing to talk about, and objectively in terms of the lyrics and upfront vocals, while still experimenting with holding things back to produce a sound more claustrophobic and immediate. Details have been revealed for Matthew Dear's next full-length, Beams. The album lands two years after Black City, arguably Dear's most critically acclaimed work to date. It includes the title track from the Headcage EP, which came out on Ghostly International in April and is now available as a free download from the label's website. All of the other tracks are previously unreleased. The first track, "Her Fantasy," will be released as a single in June. "I'm about four to five different people at any given time," Dear says in the album's press release. "By allowing all of those different personalities to exist... the most pure and direct self can come through in the music. [The songs] may still be cryptic, and full of contradictions—but in my opinion, that is pure, unadulterated thought in musical form. They are direct lines to the center." Beams was recorded at in Dear's home studio and mixed at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn. The portrait on the cover comes from Ghostly's go-to artist, Michael Cina. Style: Electronica

Ryuichi Sakamoto and Christopher Willits are ready to release a new collaborative album called Ancient Future. Each of the artists involved comes from a different generation of electronic music. Willits is a San Francisco-based artist who's been putting out indie-tinted glitch records since 2002. Sakamoto, on the other hand, is a founding member of pioneering Japanese group Yellow Magic Orchestra, and has had a prolific a solo career is a pianist and avant-garde artist that stretches back to the late '70s. Ancient Future is their second album together, after 2008's Ocean Fire. It shows the duo crafting somber ambient pieces, occasionally complemented by Sakamoto's piano or Willits' guitar. It's due out in August on Ann Arbor's Ghostly International. Style: Ambient
