TAD was a mighty force in the late-'80s/early-'90s Seattle scene. Their heavy, churning rock/metal/punk buzz was a crucial part of Sub Pop's early years, and, along with peers like Mudhoney, Nirvana, and Soundgarden, they defined the sound that reinvigorated the rock world in the early '90s. TAD was led by the physically imposing yet incredibly sweet singer/guitarist TAD Doyle, with bassist Kurt Danielson (ex-Bundle of Hiss), drummer Steve Wied, and guitarist Gary Thorstensen. With an image that sometimes cast the band as deranged lumberjacks, and influence from Head of David and Killdozer, TAD put a uniquely rain-and-fog-coated Northwest spin on '80s underground rock. The band released two albums and a few EPs on Sub Pop between 1988 and 1991, all of which are now lovingly remastered by the band's friend and engineer Jack Endino (Soundgarden, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees) and repackaged with bonus tracks and expansive liner notes. In 1991, after tens of thousands of miles on the road in support of God's Balls, and a run of powerful EPs/singles, TAD released their second full-length album, 8-Way Santa. Recorded at Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin with Butch Vig, whose work with Killdozer the band admired, 8-Way Santa finds TAD pushing their sound in new directions. Not a band to rest on its laurels, TAD began to add melodic touches to their sound, as evidenced by the lead single, "Jinx." Many touring dates and shows followed the record, plus a copyright-infringement brouhaha over the original album cover - which was quickly pulled from stores when the couple portrayed in the cover photo objected. 8-Way Santa was the last record with the original TAD lineup, and their last album for Sub Pop before jumping to a major label. This reissue of 8-Way Santa includes tracks from the "Jinx" single, a 1990 EP, and a handful of unreleased album demos recorded by Jack Endino. This material has been out of print on vinyl/CD for many years, and this is the first digital release for the bonus content

Sub Pop will release Wolf Parade's Apologies to the Queen Mary: Deluxe Edition, a reissue of the group's acclaimed first album, worldwide on 3xLP May 13th. The reissue features the original album, now as a much-better-sounding 2Xlp, along with the band's pre-Sub Pop, self-titled EPs (released in 2003 and 2004), both of which are making their vinyl debut. The package also includes the previously unreleased track "Snakes on the Ladder" from the Apologies sessions. The album was remastered for this release by the band's longtime associate Harris Newman at Grey Market Mastering. This reissue comes on the heels of Wolf Parade's recently-announced reunion. The band will be touring in the summer of 2016. Wolf Parade was founded in 2003 in Montreal, Quebec. After the aforementioned self-titled EPs, the group released Apologies to the Queen Mary to much acclaim in September, 2005, on Sub Pop. The album was recorded by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock and engineer Chris Chandler at Audible Alchemy in Portland, Oregon. The album was an entirely collaborative effort, barreling headfirst and breathlessly through songs written during Wolf Parade's early years together as a band. Pitchfork gave Apologies to the Queen Mary a 9.2 rating, saying, "Wolf Parade's true talent is transforming the everyday into the unprecedented." And The Guardian raved, "Magnificent, all told." The album has sold over 100,000 in the U.S. alone.

Over the course of eight years, the Melbourne foursome, bassist Nick Pratt, drummer Daniel Twomey and guitarists Sarah Hardiman and Jensen Tjhung, with each member contributing vocals-have instead amassed one of rock's most exhilarating bodies of work, a concise run of wooly seven inches and white-knuckle LPs whose legendary live translation has been most accurately described as "unhinged." All this despite their being scattered across multiple continents, with no way of getting to know one another outside of intermittent touring. "We didn't really know what this band was," Tjhung says. "We had something, but it wasn't clear-we had to figure out what that was." This year marks the arrival of Pain, the first they've written since coming together again semi-permanently in Melbourne, and their appropriately titled first full-length for Sub Pop. (Last October's St. Vincent EP was their proper Sub Pop debut.) It is a miraculously dissonant, wonderfully immediate display of Deaf Wish at their mightiest, alive with the same wild chemistry and sense of possibility that made their first recordings so vital. With more time together than they've ever had before, they're found themselves confronted with ideal (yet foreign) conditions. Two-minute freakouts like "Eyes Closed" share airspace with the meditate squall of "On" and the guitar-born majesty of "Calypso." Everything was captured in three takes or less, in a bleak, nondescript studio on the lifeless outskirts of Melbourne. Pain was mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control). "It's a simple thing," Tjhung says of their approach. "Simple takes the worry out of it. If we try to step it up and go sideways, it just doesn't seem to work. But we've grown up and been through some shit. To get to this point you have to bust through a few walls. It's easy to be new, and I think, in the end, this is what it is. When you put these people in the room, it's Deaf Wish."

Love Tara is the first full-length album by Canadian indie band Eric's Trip. The LP has been repressed after many years of being out of print! Eric's Trip was a Canadian indie rock band hailing from Moncton, New Brunswick. Formed in 1990 when musicians Rick White and Christopher Thompson of The Forest joined Julie Doiron and Ed Vaughan (who was later replaced by Mark Gaudet of Purple Knight), they took their name from a Sonic Youth song. They emulated the distorted guitar of Dinosaur Jr.., the folk leanings of Neil Young, and the lo-fi aesthetic of Sebadoh. Rick White described their sound as "sappy melodic pop music on top of thick distortion." Eric's Trip were the first Canadian band to be signed to Seattle's Sub Pop Records in the early 1990's. The band broke up in 1996, but reunited in 2001, and again in August 2006, to play at the Sappy Records Festival in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada.

Sweet Disorder!" b/w "Stars" is the new 7" by Birmingham, Alabama's Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires. It features two new, exclusive tracks, and it comes out July 24th, 2015. The song "Sweet Disorder!" is about disrupting systems that have proven to fall short of, if not completely undermine, their purported missions (e.g., criminal justice, mental health, the church, language) for the sake of realigning them with those missions. The song developed out of months spent revisiting the Objectivist poets, binging on early Clash albums, and observing the Atlanta actions surrounding the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner and other unarmed people of color. The song is the first completed work in a group of songs, tentatively titled Juvenile Detention, aimed at investigating questions of socialization, youth, identity, law, privilege, religion, culture, place, causality and memory. The song "Stars" was originally performed by the Birmingham band Primitons, and was released on their self-titled, Mitch Easter-produced 1982 masterpiece EP. The song is a result of the powerful songwriting team of non-performing lyricist Stephanie Truelove Wright and singer/tunesmith Mats Roden - an original pillar of our city's punk/independent scene, a pioneering openly gay hometown musician, a gentle, self-deprecating soul, and a brilliant songwriter and bandleader who managed to craft melodies out of whimsy and nostalgia, sweetness and fire, sophistication and trash in such a way that could only have taken shape on the Southside of Birmingham. Mats passed away in 2014, and this record is dedicated to his memory and to his songs. "Sweet Disorder!" was produced by Tim Kerr, cut by Jeremy Ferguson, mixed by Lee and Jeremy - all at Battletapes in Nashville, TN. "Stars" was recorded by Lee on Lee's phone in Atlanta, GA.
