SANTANA, CARLOS / MCLAUGHLIN, JOHN - Invitation To Illumination Live At Montreux 2011

A live album featuring collaborations between guitar legends John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana will be released as a two-CD set by Eagle Rock Entertainment. Invitation To Illumination—Live At Montreux 2011 will consist of audio tracks from the guitarists’ joint performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 2011. Santana and McLaughlin have been regulars at the Montreux Jazz Festival since the 1970s. But their performance at the 2011 festival marked the first time the duo had headlined a concert together since they toured to promote their 1973 John Coltrane tribute album, Love Devotion Surrender. In August 2013, Eagle Rock Entertainment released high-definition footage from the concert on Blu-ray and DVD (also called Invitation To Illumination—Live At Montreux 2011). The audio album features select tracks from the concert. The concert features most of the tracks recorded on Love Devotion Surrender, including Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” and “Naima.” It also includes songs by numerous other artists who have inspired the duo over the years, such as Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Nina Simone and John Lee Hooker. Other musicians featured on this 16-track set include drummers Cindy Blackman Santana and Dennis Chambers, keyboardist David K. Mathews, bassists Etienne M’Bappé and Benny Rietveld, vocalists Tony Lindsay and Andy Vargas, guitarist Tommy Anthony and percussionist Raul Rekow. Claude Nobs (1936–2013), the founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival, plays harmonica on the track “Shake It Up And Go.” Record Label: Eagle Records Style: Pop/Rock
