Wayward Sons may be a brand new band, but they come loaded with experience. Besides band leader Toby Jepson’s work in the producer’s chair with the likes of Toseland, Saxon, Fastway, The Answer, and The Virginmarys, he also fronted the very popular and successful UK rock act Little Angels, as well as spending time in Scottish act Gun, among others. Made at the height of the low-budget slasher-film craze fueled by the success of Halloween and Friday the 13th in the early 1980s, the film has become notable for being the first release from Miramax Films. Superb album by East Los Angeles band The Village Callers, recorded live in 1968 and released on Eddie Davis's Rampart Records. A seasoned and popular band at all the top venues, The Village Callers brought many different sounds into the mix: jazz, soul, R&B and lots of Latin percussion. Their only LP consisted mainly of groove-filled covers such as Heard It Through The Grapevine', Don't Need No Doctor', Joao Donato's ¶he Frog' and a medley of Aretha Franklin hits. 'Hector', one of the standout cuts on the LP and its only original song, has been sampled by Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill or De La Soul among other hip-hop artists. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. Most people believe hip-hop was born in the late 70s but after listening to what this band East Los Angeles was recording in 1968, you will find out that the original beats and breaks were already there a decade earlier. It is not surprising that 'Hector', one of the standout cuts on this LP, has been sampled by artists such as Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill or De La Soul, and The Village Callers' take on the classic Don't Need No Doctor' could easily be described as an early drum &
bass tune. The Village Callers were born out of a band called Marcy &
The Imperials and became very popular in East Los Angeles, playing all the top venues. They brought many different sounds into the mix: jazz, soul, R&B and, of course, lots of Latin percussion. Their manager, Hector Rivera, got a record deal with Rampart's owner, Eddie Davis, that led the band to the studio for their only ever LP. The album was made up of cover tunes such as 'Heard It Through the Grapevine', Joao Donato's 'The Frog' and several Aretha Franklin hits. 'Hector', dedicated to their manager and the only original song on the album, was a very cool Latin groove that quickly gained airplay, becoming quite a hit in Los Angeles. They also recorded the first Latin rock version of vil Ways', ahead of Santana's, that didn't make it into the album but was released as a separate 45. Unfortunately, the recording career of The Village Callers didn't last too long after they decided to change label management and left Eddie Davis. Also, their powerful Latin sound progressively faded out as the original members were replaced by new musicians, transforming The Village Callers into a rock band

Lina Tullgren is from Southern Maine just over the border of the northernmost seacoast of New Hampshire. It's an unexpected location for artistic incubation, but osmosis is bound to occur when you grow up surrounded by family, friends, and weirdos interacting at all times with their own interpretations of creative output. Shifting in trainings and traditions, the 23 year old eventually found herself a voice with the electric guitar, uniquely flavored and shaped from the many years of fiddle lessons and classical technique. Lina's morphing interaction with music has mirrored a growing determination to harness her ability to melodically and lyrically express complex emotions - a rare gift at such a young age. With 2016's Wishlist EP - recorded to tape at the home of band mate Ty Ueda - Lina proved an ability to craft simple, introspective and succinct songs, each one a pulsing glow leaving you both hollow and whole, alone but never lonely. The story of "Ton Steine Scherben in Dub" began 20 years ago. After two eye-catching compilations of the then still young label Echo Beach, which threw a knot on the British and international dub-productions of the mid-nineties, "King Size Dub Volume 3" should concentrate on Germany. They also thought of the shards and a version of "Mole Hill Rockers" landed on the sampler. Then nothing happened. Until Labelchef Nicolai Beverungen two of his dub specialists, namely Fe Wolter (Dubvisionist) and Alexander Hornbach (Aldubb), to a further collaboration with R.P.S. Lanrue could move. Although there were no multi-track recordings for the shards, the Dub archaeologists succeeded in preserving the essence of the pieces in exclusive mixes. Only a few points were supplemented by overdubs, strengthened or deepened. The album itself was an unhurried affair made from various sketched starting points collected over three years of research. Influenced from their travels, a decade of DJ gigs and shared musical experiences, they then headed into the studio for three intense months to arrange, rework, jam out new material, edit and collate all their sounds and ideas. The Knife, a Swedish electronic music group made up of siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer, announced an upcoming live album that will be recorded at Terminal 5 in New York. The group started in 1999 along with the siblings’ own company, Rabid Records. The duo gained a global audience in 2003 with their album, Deep Cuts. In 2006, The Knife went on tour to promote their album Silent Shout. The pair have consistently worn masks in public and, despite having won multiple Swedish Grammis, refuse to attend any ceremonies. Each has operated as a solo artist under an alias. The group broke up in 2014 after completing the tour for the acclaimed album, Shaking The Habitual. The Knife returned today. A band that has always refused to cooperate with the mainstream media now announces plans for a live album, released alongside a book of photographs from their 2014 tour. The group rarely made public appearances and only performed live for the first time in 2005, six years after forming. The Knife is a different kind of musical group. Their concerts rely heavily on the visual. They consider David Lynch and Donnie Darko as inspirations, along with musical acts like Sonic Youth and Le Tigre. The photo album and DVD will be released with the Terminal 5 live album. The band released a statement about their plans for the album. The blurb, found on their website, discusses the ways in which the band has gone in a new direction for their sixth album.

Sven Weisemann is set to release his 'Bilateral Relations' EP via Copenhagen's Echocord this September, comprising four originals from the German producer. Sven Weisemann has been immersed in the underground House and Techno scene for quite some time now having started DJing in 1997 during the rise of the scene on his home turf of Berlin and going on to release material via the likes of Amsterdam's Delsin, Mojuba, Telrae and liebe.detail amongst many more. Here though we see Sven joining the roster of Echocord, a perfect fit for his more dubbed out compositions with artists like Fluxion, Rod Modell and STL on the roster. 'Lunation' opens the release and sees Weisemann fuse emotive string melodies and cavernous vocal echoes with off- kilter rhythms and rounded sub hits before title-track 'Bilateral Relations' embraces a more direct four-four approach via sparse percussion and tumbling toms alongside choppy bass stabs and ever-unfolding, echoing dub chords. Opening the flip is 'Monistic', an airy ethereal number employing billowing pads, bright synth chimes and a dropped tempo dubbed out feel to create something truly stunning and thought provoking before the 'Decimation (Valvle tR9 Mix) closes things on a darker tip with looming stab swells, heavily swung drums and sporadic growling bass drones.
