Firebird is the brainchild of legendary UK guitarist Bill Steer (Carcass, Napalm Death), which explores areas he is most fond of, outside of death metal and heavy metal in general. The sound of Firebird is very pure and is heavily influenced by the forefathers of heavy rock and blues, dating back from the early 60s through to early 70s. Bill’s soulful vocals can be somewhat compared to Steve Marriot, at least in terms of expression, whilst his guitar playing is in a league of its own; truly one of the most under-estimated guitarists in the history of British rock. The band released this debut album back in 2000 on Rise Above records, the label ran by his old pal Lee Dorrian. The line up on this debut featured the explosive rhythm section of Leo Smee (Cathedral, Chrome Hoof etc) on bass and Ludwig Witt (Spiritual Beggars, Grand Magus etc) on drums. It received high critical acclaim from both classic rock purists and fans of his heavier work. Released for the first time on vinyl, Firebird will please Bill’s many fans who are finally able to fill this gap in their collection.

In the last dozen years, Elder has stepped out of the shadows of their peers in the heavy rock underground to emerge a unique voice, delivering album after album of almost unparalleled consistency and creativity. Omens, the band‘s fifth full-length record, is the newest pillar in the construction of their own musical universe. Following 2017’s 'Reflections of a Floating World' and the 2019 experimental EP 'The Gold & Silver Sessions', it was anyone’s guess what the band’s next full-length might have in store. Having cemented their own heavy progressive rock sound, the latter EP showcased an exact opposite side of Elder, more rooted in sparse krautrock and even jazz-tinged jams. Omens answers this speculation with a contradiction that embodies the spirit of Elder: somehow, there’s even more everything. In five cinematic songs, lush, intricately interwoven melodies grow and dissolve into spaced-out jams. Massive riffs thunder down into a churning sea of psychedelic sounds and unpredictable grooves carry away the listener. Elder paint pictures with their music, and Omens shows the band experimenting with an even more colorful palette – with good reason. After thirteen years, this is the first full-length recorded with a new lineup including guitarist Michael Risberg and new drummer Georg Edert, along with guest performances by Fabio Cuomo on Rhodes piano and synthesizers. This is music for a vacation from reality – to lose oneself in another world. And yet Omens is not purely an exercise in escapism, but also reflects the increasingly bleak, confusing and antagonistic times in which it was written. Composed as a concept album spanning the lifespan of a civilisation, the album also reads as a commentary on our own society hell-bent on profitability at the expense of our own lives and environment. Omens was recorded and mixed at Black Box Studios in France with engineer Peter Deimel (Shellac, dEUS, Motorpsycho) and mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago. The result is an album that is rich, warm and dynamic, presenting the many layers of Elder’s complex sound clearly and offering new discoveries with every listen.

Under Moving Skies' is the second album by Dublin based singer-songwriter Eileen Gogan and features guest appearances from musical luminaries such as Sean O'Hagan, Cathal Coughlan, Damian O'Neill, Terry Edwards and Stephen Ryan. Self-produced by Gogan, the record showcases the skills of this talented artist. The follow-up to the concise and sparkling 'The Spirit Of Oberlin', her acclaimed debut, 'Under Moving Skies' is drawn from a much wider sound palette. Clearly relishing her role at the mixing desk, Gogan has written a collection of songs that take her far beyond previous boundaries. Among eight self-penned songs are acoustic based pop nuggets such as the dreamily wistful 'More Time', the doughty 'I Don't Mind' and the mandolin-adorned 'Yes, Music Does Have The Right To Children', plus ventures into more spatial, widescreen territory with the evocative and eerie 'San Fran 1997', the spectral 'Sweet Alice' and the album's first single,'Don't Let Me Sleep', a classic soul update that drifts into another world mid-song. By contrast, 'Echo' is a suitably bare-boned meditation on a troubled and troubling relationship, while the infectious 'Malibu Stacy' is all lip-gloss and Latin swagger.
