Otto Dix is certainly Russia's most exotic music export. For a good 20 years the singer has been playing with gender roles (a circumstance that can certainly cause problems in Russia) and sings in the highest falsetto of beauty and decay, ecstasy and downfall. Stylistically, the band from St. Petersburg has defined its own genre between dark wave and gothic, and in Russia, as enfant terrible, it occupies roughly the position of Marylin Manson in the western hemisphere. After more than a dozen albums, Otto Dix breaks completely new ground with his new work Autocrator. The musical ensemble was newly occupied by the singer and finds in the extroverted composer and guitarist Mike Interio the congenial counterpart for a work, which knows how to convince even with harder metal elements. Nevertheless: Above all, the supernatural voice of Otto Dix is enthroned. Autocrator takes up the question of power and its abuse and to what extent all of us can be called upon to become easily programmable puppets in the information age.
