Prolific reggae producer Bunny "Striker" Lee created a number of different labels in the '60s and '70s to handle his ever-expanding output. The most important at the time when dub was king were Jackpot, Justice, and Attack. Lee recalls, "I had a lot of labels. Lee was my first label... just a plain little white label and then I came out with Lee's with an apostrophe on it... I still have labels sometimes that I don't remember until I see it! Sometimes you'd just make up a label on the spur of the moment." Here, Jamaican Recordings delves into the catalog of Attack, which Lee founded in 1969, to assemble a compilation of some of its finest dub cuts released between 1973 and 1977. Includes dubs and versions of tracks by Linval Thompson, Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell/Tommy McCook, Johnny Clarke/Tommy McCook, Barry Brown, Leroy Smart, Derrick Morgan & Hortense Ellis, and Horace Andy. To all our respected critics, reviewers, and wisenheimer: be prepared to listen to this album in tranquility. If you do not do so you will most likely rate this release one out of five stars. And this is something which it certainly does not deserve. This album needs time and patience to be fully understood. And if you do so you will be enlightened by the true beauty of this selection. Not only for Don McCaslin's project Warmth the time has come for representation and appreciation. All the songs on this disc are well worth to be discovered. No matter if you skip to Jorge Darden's jazzy-soulful "Alone Again" or to Seeds of Fulfillment's stunning "Solemn Solitude". Each and every song is a masterpiece in its own right. Funky soul music fans will be pleased to get a chance to listen to Cookie Thomas and Bold Breed, two cuts which are hard to find in its original format. Rarity is one thing, quality is another. The songs to be found here are both rare and good. Better yet, until now, all of these tracks had not yet been compiled. After Movements and Feeling Nice, two already well-established compilation series on Tramp, Praise Poems could be the start of a new successful one. It was solely the title track which lead us to release this album. Don't ask if there will be a Volume 2. We don't know yet. 180 GRAM - 1000 COPIES ON RED & PURPLE MIXED VINYL Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix (1993) was recorded by various artists in tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The artists were drawn from many genres of popular music. Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others. According to the liner notes, the "artists were encouraged to not only record one of their own personal favorites but to also place their stamp on Jimi's songs." Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals. The band M.A.C.C. is made up of Mike McCready (guitarist from Pearl Jam), Jeff Ament (bassist from Pearl Jam), Matt Cameron (drummer for Soundgarden and later for Pearl Jam), and Chris Cornell (singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave). The cover of "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" is their only known recording. All four members of this group had previously worked together on the Temple of the Dog project. Eric Clapton's backing group on the title track includes the three original core members of Chic (Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson) and is the last recording on which all three played together Record Label: Music On Vinyl Style: Rock

Read the full story here, as told by Brenk who initiated the release: My old friend Aras asked me one day if I could perform at the charity event he organizes for the refugees in the Kurdistan Region for the people who are on the run from IS fighters in Iraq ans Syria. He explained the circumstances to me and pointed out the immense struggle these families have to go through day by day. He told me that he and his team are about to fly the money directly to the people in need by themselves. The proceeds will be distributed among refugees, in the Dohug and Erbil Governorate which is very close to the Iraqi/Syrian Border. Due to it’s location a huge part of the Syrian as well as the Yezidi and christian refugees ended up in this region. The money will be delivered directly to the refugees, to help them attend to their most immediate needs, such as food, clean water and warm clothing for the winter. It was clear for me that I had to support his endeavors. As I realized that performing there wouldn't be possible because of me being on tour with the Betty Ford Boys, I wanted to find another way to support this project with something bigger than just a performance. I started calling the homies and everybody was immediately down to support "FOR THE PEOPLE" with an unreleased instrumental. There you have it; this is how the idea for the compilation was born. I would like to thank each and everyone who bought this record and supported this movement. Also I would like to shout out all my brothers who sent me these dope ass beats. And last but definitely not least, Jannis and Jakarta Records for seeing my little vision and making this an official release via Jakarta to help raise even more money.
