So I was very happy to get the sixth longplayer "House of noise" so far before the actual release date to find out that Massive Wagons not only delivered the best of their career with this album, but also released THE summer soundtrack 2020.Right from the beginning the guys start furiously and rock themselves into delirium with wonderfully catchy hymns. Great choruses and with Barry Mills a frontman who has a more than recognizable voice that doesn't go down in the middle class. Every, I repeat, EVERY song makes your foot tapping along and evokes the carefree spirit of the late eighties in many places, without sounding stale or polished up.

Kal Swan, along with deft guitarist Doug Aldrich, were the juice behind Lion. Despite laying down the likes of "Come On", "Love is a Lie", "Strangers in the City", "Hold On" and "Hungry for Love" on their second full-length LP, Lion's roar was slowly being supressed. Trouble in Angel City was the final recording from the group. Swan and Aldrich quickly formed Bad Moon Rising, while continuing to build on the sound that dominated Lion's recordings. Like Lion, BMR garnered a solid Japanese fan base. But in the States, the group couldn't cut it, especially when the big wave of flannel from the Pacific Northwest took over the '90s. Godzilla just walked into the room. People just stood there with their eyes and mouths wide open." To hear Randy Holden describe the audience's reaction in 1969 to his solo debut performing with a teeth-rattling phalanx of 16 (sixteen!) 200 watt Sunn amps is about as close as many of us will get to truly experience the moment heavy metal music morphed into existence. However, at last we have unearthed the proper fossil record. Population II, the now legendary, extremely rare album by guitarist/vocalist Holden and drummer/keyboardist Chris Lockheed is considered to be one of the earliest examples of doom metal. Though its original release was a very limited in number and distribution, like all great records, its impact over time has continued to grow. In 1969, Holden, fresh off his tenure with proto-metal pioneers Blue Cheer (appearing on one side of the New! Improved! Blue Cheer album and touring for the better part of a year in the group), aimed for more control over his band. Thus, Randy Holden - Population II was born, the duo naming itself after the astronomical term for a particular star cluster with heavy metals present. "I wanted to do something that hadn't been done before," Holden explains. "I was interested in discordant sounds that could be melodic but gigantically huge. I rented an Opera house for rehearsal, set up with 16 Sunn amps. That's what I was going for, way over the top." And over the top it is. The 6-song album delves into leaden sludge, lumbering doom and epic soaring riffs that sound free from all constraints of the era. It's incredibly heavy, but infused with a melodic, albeit mechanistic, sensibility. "At the time, I was hearing these crazy melodies everywhere I went," Holden says. "I thought I was going crazy." For example, one day he slowly rooted out a powerful sound that had been nagging him and discovered it coming from a ceiling fan. "Machinery all around us doesn't turn in a perfect rhythm. That's what I was tuning into, I heard the music and the discordant sounds coming from the machinery. It was perfect for rendering the machine we built." Troubles with the album's release bankrupted Holden, who subsequently left music for over two decades. It was bootlegged several times over the years, but until now hasn't seen a proper remaster and has yet to be available on digital platforms. "The original mastering just destroyed the dynamics of it," Holden says. "They flattened it out. Now we got a really nice remaster that should be the closest thing to the original recording."

To celebrate the release of their then new studio album, “II, Fortune traveled to Milan, Italy for the 2019 edition of the Frontiers Rock Festival to play a rare live set. A milestone performance, which happened on April 27, 2019, the set will now be released as a CD/DVD on August 7, 2020. Fortune released their self-titled debut album in 1985 on Camel/MCA Records (the same label that had launched Night Ranger and Giuffria to stardom). The album is still highly regarded today by fans of the AOR genre thanks to the soaring vocals of Larry Greene (also featured on the Top Gun soundtrack) and to the magnificent blending of the keyboards of Roger Scott Craig with Mick Fortune’s guitar. Sadly, the band called it quits shortly after the release due to their label going bankrupt. The band remained silent for years and while Larry Greene and Roger Scott Craig started working together with the band Harlan Cage, the Fortune brothers started the band back up again as a trio in 2006, until a proper band reunion happened in 2016 when the band performed at “Rockingham Rock Festival” and – by public demand – again in 2017. These appearances led to discussions with Frontiers about a new studio album, “II”, which was released in 2019. A unique, and rare, performance, this is a must see and hear for all AOR fans!

Founded in 1987, CHINA made a significant impact with their début Dirk Steffans produced album and their brand of heavy AOR. Formed by drummer John Dommen and guitarist Freddy Laurence, the duo quickly teamed up with vocalist Math Shiverow, ex-Bloody Six guitarist Claudio Matteo and former Stormbringer bassist Mac Lynn. Having gained a deal with Polygram, China were assited in the recording of theiur début album by Krokus vocalist Marc Storace., who also contributed backing vocals to the début album, whilst Krokus guitarist Fernando Von Arb wrote the album track 'Back To You'. The second album, Sign in The Sky , found CHINA switching production into the hands of Stephen Galfas. More significantly, the record heralded a new era for the band bringin in former Crown and Krokus guitarist Patrick Mason and new bassist ex-Killer man Briam Kofmehl following the departures of both Math Shiverow and Marc Lynn respectively. The record surprisingly also featured guest backing vocals courtesy of former Grim Repaer vocalist Steve Grimmett. Interestingly, Mason's stay in CHINA was extremely short-lived and thus 1991's 'Live' mini-album introduced CHINA 's third vocalist, Eric St Michaels.
