In a state of shock I played the new album for the second time. Now with an entirely different perspective. Listening to it in that very weird, poignant and strangely exalted state I was struck by the notion that Bowie had created an incredibly complex and layered swan song and had, in effect, transformed his death into an astonishing work of art. For the first time in their ten-year history, Weird Owl have kept the same lineup for consecutive releases, and Interstellar Skeletal reveals further explorations into the psychic canyons mined on Healing. Rather than scrapping the mission and returning to base for debriefing before attempting a relaunch, Weird Owl's strange sonic rocketry has ventured ever deeper into the vast starry expanse, and their transmissions back to Earth have grown ever freakier as a result. Their psychedelic postcards are written in the cosmic breathiness of the synthesizer and the alien ululations of a guitar tuned to secret frequencies, rumbling through the ages on illuminated rhythmic grids. Each track on Interstellar Skeletal serves as an interdimensional portal to free zones beyond the usual terrestrial veil, whether it is via odd jungle shamanism ("Silver Ziggurats"), the WWII bomber as spiritual metaphor ("Flying Fortress"), death personified as an albino lycanthrope ("White Werewolf") or the unsettling might of an extraterrestrial deity crashing a beach picnic ("God"). After 2014 which saw the band supporting Goat & the Brian Jonestown Massacre on their European tours . This 4 track EP runs at over 24 minutes . Their new EP is Stockholm Death Star which is recorded in the band's own studio in Sweden's capital and consists of four new tracks. Those of you who are already familiar with the group will probably recognize their trippy spaceRock over pulsating motorik beats from their earlier releases, and their feel for melodies is still very much present in the four songs. Produced by the bands guitarist, singer and main songwriter during the dark months of the Scandinavian winter, the music still has an ethereal light glimmering through the blissfully stoned vocal harmonies and chiming twelve string guitar riffs. " If you live in a dark and cold city covered in snow and the times around you are dark as well, you have to look extra hard and try to find a little spark of light inside yourself" as Joakim Âhlund puts it. The late '90s found Swearing At Motorists releasing a slew of 7" EPs on different labels, and after getting repeated plays from John Peel and favorable press worldwide, the band landed a contract with the then new label Secretly Canadian. They released 2 EPs & 4 LPs on SC, including 2000's "Number Seven Uptown" and 2002's "This Flag Signals Goodbye", both of which were named MOJO Magazine's "Underground Album of the Year" the years they were released. After touring the UK with Loop & Australia in December 2013 with the Brian Jonestown Massacre . The KVB's new six track EP is the culmination of a week long recording session at Anton Newcombe's studio in Berlin last autumn . During which they recruited the help of Joe Dilworth (Stereolab) to contribute live drums to the recordings , this was the first time the band have worked outside of their own studio set up at their home in South London. "Out Of Body" is a further exploration of the bands interest in phenomenology, bodily immersion and consciousness. Introspective lyrics are suspended in dream like melodies, further expanding upon the duo's hypnotic aesthetic which they explore both sonically and visually on the record. The KVB is the audio/visual project of London youngsters Nicholas Wood & Kat Day, who combine reverb heavy wall of sound guitars, minimal haunting strings and grinding bass synths, messed up motorik drum machine beats and delay drenched vocals with a backdrop of imagery to accompany the symphony, that's nothing short of life affirming. Such full sensory assaults have seen The KVB's live following swell and their gig schedule become busier all the time, with multiple European headline tours as well as a West Coast USA Tour in summer 2012 since the release of their debut album "Always Then".
