Self-titled debut album by Melbourne, Australia wobbly pop foursome School Damage. Formed by Carolyn Hawkins (Chook Race) and Jake Robertson (Ausmuteants, Hierophants) whose other projects have had releases on Goner Records, HoZac and Trouble In Mind. They were soon joined by Jeff Raty on drums and and Dani Damage on bass. School Damage's sound is defined by wonky keyboards, weaving bass lines, and lyrics focused on the anxieties of modern life and love. They take cues from 80s DIY pop outfits such as The Vaselines, Young Marble Giants and The Particles. "A lot of the songs reflect a sense of self-doubt in relation to the world around me," says Carolyn. "I think the internet calls it a quarter life crisis." Jake says his School Damage songs are "about acting adult, having to have stressful small-talk conversations with people, not having fun in the rain etc." The album was recorded in Melbourne and Geelong by Billy Gardner (Ausmuteants, L iving Eyes) and mixed/mas-tered by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring). School Damage's previous releases have been cassettes and 7"s on local labels Moontown and Detonic Records. They played King Gizzard's Gizzfest in 2016 and have shared stages with the likes of The Bats, Twerps and The Cannanes.

Pega Monstro are sisters Julia Reis (drums) and Maria Reis (guitar), both sing. They share the same birthday but are not twins and have always lived in Lisbon, Portugal. Having played music together in other groups since their mid-teens, Maria and Julia, resolved to become a duo in 2010 focussing on their intuitive sense of harmony and expressionistic dream-punk sound. Pega Monstro released their self-titled debut album on their own Cafetra imprint in 2012, with national critical acclaim meeting the raucous garage-rock inflected record. Whilst, 2015 saw Pega Monstro team up with UK label Upset The Rhythm for their impressive and more sonically developed 'Alfarroba' album that led to international attention. Now Pega Monstro return with their third album entitled 'Casa de Cima', which translates as §pper House'. The album shares its name with the Villa in which the album was recorded, nestled amongst the pine-scattered terrain of the Sintra mountains. Moniquea established herself as one of the foremost female artists in the modern funk scene with her 2014 MoFunk Records debut album Yes No Maybe. RAAR is deeply proud to present the first full length album from label co- founder Maelstrom, entitled "Her Empty Eyes". Both an evolution of the producer's rich history and an intellectual departure from everything that has preceded it, "Her Empty Eyes" is a work that is uncanny, challenging and meditative. Continuing upon the cross-media mission of RAAR, the LP is in fact the outline of a sonic novel. Maelstrom describes: "As a kid I was a voracious reader. I used to live in stories. I used to go to sleep dreaming I'd wake up inside one of them. Sometimes I still do, and this album has been recorded inside one of these dreams. During the last 12 months, my music started to become the soundtrack of an imaginary novel taking place between 1936 and 1939 in Spain. The novel depicts the life of Marina, a news photographer covering the war during these 4 years, meeting John Dos Passos and Ernest Hemmingway at "Hotel Florida" in Madrid, Georges Orwell and Buenavaentura Durruti on the frontline, or anonymous volunteers of the International Brigades in Barcelona. We follow her investigating the death of Jose Robles, a Spanish intellectual who was allegedly killed by members of the soviet secret police lead by Alexander Orlov, also believed to be responsible for the torture and death of Andres Nin, leader of the POUM, during Barcelona's "May Days" of 1937. While looking into the murder, Marina keeps on covering the war for international magazines, travelling with the Lincoln Brigade during the Battle Of Jarama or with Spanish civilians fleeing Malaga by the road as bombs fall and planes strafe the ground with machine-gun fire. The story ends with the exile of hundreds of thousands of Spanish refugees across the mountains and the French border in the winter of 1939, and with the death of Marina. The album's title refers to our heroine's untimely demise, and the evidence of what was captured in her empty eyes, burned forever into the film in her precious Leica. This is not a metaphor nor an essay, this is the outline of a story. It's the listener's place to make sense of it. The context is a civil war. The characters are a photo-reporter, famous writers and anonymous heroes, and my music is its soundtrack." Recording Process: « My recording method has drastically changed since I started experimenting with Milton H. Erickson's self hypnosis techniques about a year ago. I went from overthinking every part of the recording process multiple times over, resulting in dozens of versions of each of my tracks, to a state where thinking wasn't part of the equation anymore. Self hypnosis is quite impossible to describe - more than anything, it's a way to fully exist in the present. After a few weeks of experimentation, it became possible for me to record tracks in one take, without feeling any urge to refine or rework them. I would switch on the studio, work on a sound palette, and then press play and record, every day ». Rather than focusing on club bangers, Maelstrom depicts a future of techno that is intellectual, historical, spiritual and emotional.

With "Towards Language" trumpeter Arve Henriksen is back with his trusted long time musical partners Jan Bang and Erik Honoré. Arve first collaborated with the pair on the much loved and highly praised "Chiaroscuro" (2004), Arve's second album, and later on "Cartography" (ECM 2008) and "Places Of Worship" (2013). Also an important part of the line-up is Eivind Aarset, the ECM associated guitarist extraordinaire. "Towards Language" is Arve's ninth album (eight on Rune Grammofon and one on ECM) under his own name, in addition he has collaborated on records with artists like David Sylvian, Jon Balke, Christian Wallumrod, Trygve Seim and Trio Mediaeval, as well as a dozen albums as founder member of free noise trio Supersilent. Arve has never been short of praise when it comes to expressing the importance his collaborators and musicians have on the creative process. Asked to comment on his new album, and its title, here's what he has to say: "To express something on your own can be quite challenging at times. I have for years been in creative collaborations with musicians and producers that have ecouraged and inspired me. With this help and inspiration to discover new sounds and music I have struggled and made my way to gradually be able to create some sort of language and a way of telling stories with my trumpet and singing. They have all coloured and gradually transformed me through different artistic timezones that I have passed through. All the information, concerts, discussions and impressions have had a significant impact on the process of gradually coming closer towards the core of communication through music. With this recording, the good help and inspirational artistic contributions from Eivind Aarset and Jan Bang at the recording session in Oslo has led to these selected tracks. Music that has a connection to "Places of Worship", but this time recorded "live" in the studio in a chamber music like approach inspired by contemporary elements from composers like Toru Takemitsu and Manuel de Falla, to traditional organ music, and at the end of the album bringing in a traditional "kven" (ancient Nordic song tradition) theme from the roots of my family from the North of Norway, sung by Anna Maria Friman of Trio Mediaeval.
