Although a brand-new name, Hallatar features among its ranks Swallow the Sun and Trees of Eternity guitarist Juha Raivio, Amorphis vocalist Tomi Joutsen, and former HIM drummer Gas Lipstick. In fact, one could see Hallatar as an extension of Trees of Eternity, whose massively acclaimed debut for Svart, Hour of the Nightingale, served as the swansong of vocalist Aleah Starbridge. Juha Raivio explains the genesis of Hallatar: "After the death of my beloved and my life partner Aleah Starbridge on April 18th a year ago, I have been gathering writings, lyrics, and the poems of Aleah to keep them safe and close to my heart. About one month after the world came down on the blackest day of my life, I knew I needed to pick up the guitar and try to create something or I would be truly destroyed. And something did arrive out of the darkness, and I wrote the music for the Hallatar album in a week's time. I don't have much memory of this week, not a memory of a single day of writing the music. But all I remember when going into this abyss of the writing process was a promise to myself that whatever music would come out, I would not touch or change anything of it afterwards. What mattered was that the music would stay forever as an absolute truth of those moments as they came out. I asked my good friends - and amazing musicians - Tomi Joutsen and Gas Lipstick if they would want to record this music with me, and both of them said yes without even hearing a note of it. I am forever grateful to both of them for sharing this road with me;
even the weight of the process has not been easy to carry, or will be.

LIMITED EDITION OF 400 LPs ON WHITE VINYL. Whoever decided that hymns have to be of epic length? FORKUPINES break out the grand gesture right from the start on their debut album "Here, Away From", and most often they need less than four minutes to do so. What's more, they sound so light-footed and catchy as though they've done nothing else in their entire lives. Singalong choruses like the one from the opening "A Perfect Match" or hooks such as in "Everything I've Become" would suit Biffy Clyro's oeuvre perfectly. The fact that FORKUPINES don't even need orchestras, samples, or any other extras to create one catchy tune after another makes them that much more likeable. FORKUPINES was founded in May 2011 in Braunschweig, Germany. Since then the trio managed to leave traces all over Europe. After more than 150 shows and two EPs, "Here, Away From" is the long-awaited debut full length that seems destined to mark the breakthrough for FORKUPINES. The eleven songs found on "Here, away from" are just that strong. Influenced by punk, post hardcore, pop and emo, the band shows an extremely effective and convincing diversity. Were mixtapes still a thing, tracks such as the pop pearl "The Good Fight", the midtempo smasher "By the Sea" or the perfect last dance "Stay the Night" would be given away with a beating heart frequently this summer. Whether "Here, Away From" will prove to open the big doors for the band or not has to be seen. The fact remains that FORKUPINES deliver a damn strong album that deserves to be heard, loved, and celebrated.

Dead Express was formed in January 2014 with the sole intention of buying expensive gear and having a blast. That, and to play live at least once before the end of the year. Said and done;
in September their goal was achieved. The band played a live set at a microbrewery just outside the city of Nykoping. From this point onward things steadily unfolded and their live gigs are close to 20 in such a short time, including a performance at the international Peace &
Love festival in 2016. The band's first EP (that no one is allowed to mention) was recorded during 2015. A sophomore EP, aptly titled "The Demon" was shortly released thereafter and was recorded in the spring of 2016 during an excessive amount of alcohol. It's nothing short of amazing that the recording was even completed. 22 September 2017 sees the release of Dead Express' self-financed full length "Bloodsucking Queen" on vinyl as well as digitally, exclusively through Sound Pollution. The album was recorded during the months of March-April at Studio Bunker NYK. This time under sober conditions. The result is an album that blends the music of The Hellacopters' "Grande Rock", The Datsuns' self-titled debut and Gluecifer's "Tender Is The Savage". Dead Express is all about the music and with an uncompromising DIY-approach to their craft they've managed to capture the essence of action rock with a huge amount of punk attitude

4 new, obliquely confessional dispatches from the edge zones of feeling. It marks both a refinement of the dub-damaged, inward-looking bedsit pop essayed on her 2016 debut album You Know What It's Like, and an evolutionary leap. While there is warmth and intimacy to come, The Garden opens with a cold hard stare: 'We Shouldn't Have To Wait', an unexpectedly confrontational companion piece, or response, to her own 'Fast Moving Cars'. This is not a dazed reverie, but forceful, fatalistic, void-chasing drone-rock led by a stalking, venus-in-furs bassline that levels everything in its path. No longer gazing from afar at fast moving cars, but behind the wheel of one, driving pretty recklessly. No particular destination in mind, but impatient to get there. 'Clusters' is the sound of (unexpected) arrival in something close to paradise, and slowing down the better to take it in: a bright, imagistic, electronic pop fantasy in the tradition of Stereolab or Saint Etienne, with lyrics rearranged from the pages of a National Geographic article. dal Forno's voice, newly prominent and minimally accompanied, sounds close to contented, but also worldly-wise. 'Wake Up Talk' is a tense, awkward unpicking of a dysfunctional relationship, its murky sound design, thrift-store percussion and lyrical starkness pegging it as the closest relation to You Know What It's Like, and perhaps also the closing of that particular chapter. The EP's title track pays tribute to Einsturzende Neubauten's song of the same name, but shifts the action to nighttime, and brings an acutely female perspective to bear: here the garden is a place of beauty and refuge, sure, but also one of hidden menace and threat.things that lurk. dal Forno has never sounded so emotionally eloquent, and at the same time 'The Garden' is without doubt her most subtly psychedelic production to date. Her glissando bassline and understated synth-work powerfully evoke the moonlight, the dew and the dark boughs, while her cut-glass vocals - still romantically inclined but freighted with adult self-knowledge, adult fear - summon the Tracey Thorn of Eden and Massive Attack's Protection, but have their own character, occupy their own space in the aether. What makes The Garden so satisfying is how decisively it moves away from the post-punk/lo-fi sensibilities of You Know What Its Like, without vacating them entirely. dal Forno wrote, played, arranged and recorded every note herself. A compact masterpiece from a remarkable artist who has only just begun to hit her stride.

THE NEXT BIG THING label makes an imprint comeback two decades after the previous elease' to bring you something pretty damn special. A wee tad over 40 years ago, a chap by the name of Andy Shernoff penned a tune that kicked off THE DICTATORS GO GIRL CRAZY. The title was nabbed in 1977 as the moniker of a fanzine in Scotland to begin an adventure that none of us could conceivably have believed would or could still be ongoing. Fast forward to 2017 and Moss Rock City, Norway's toppermost pop ensemble THE DAHLMANNS have recorded two brand new Shernoff compositions. "FOREVER MY BABY" features a duet between Andy and Line Dahlmann. Flipside, "THE LAST TIME" might just be the best thing that the Moss Rock City crew has committed to ¶ape' thus far. I'm sure there was no physical tape involved but just go with me on this. These hit factory calibre nuggets were produced by the "Power Pop Max Martin" that is Christian (Chris Frehley) Jacobsen. There were never any plans to bring the label out of hibernation but how could anyone pass up a project that brings together such important elements in making this THING tick. Not me. It was released in 1971, with the opening song "Diana" being released as a single. The album was notable for its unique blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, and elements of paganism and the macabre. The overall thematic tone of the album is of vulnerable innocence facing abusive power, the songs dealing with violence ("Drip Drip"), rape ("Diana", "Song to Comus"), and insulin shock therapy ("The Prisoner"). These themes contrast starkly with the acoustic sound of the record, featuring acoustic guitar, violin, flute, and lyrical, almost Arcadian, female harmonies. References to Comus by other bands and artists include Opeth, citing its lyrics in album and song titles and tattoos. Experimental outfit Current 93 also covered "Diana" as the opening song on their 1997 LP Horsey. The cover artwork was drawn in ball point pen by Roger Wootton, lead singer and songwriter of the band. The centrefold artwork was painted by guitarist Glenn Goring. Reviews were favourable, such as the NME praised the album's "highly unusual but fascinating sound" and Time Out said "the overall effect is unique".

CTMF are back with their fifth album in five years. Brand New Cage follows the critically acclaimed SQ1 album from 2016. It features 10 new Billy Childish songs along with two written and sung by the band's bassist Nurse Julie. Subjects include lost landmarks of '70s Chatham, the true revolution of punk, spirituality, lost loves and the sidelining of Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones. The sleeve art features a photo of an 18-year old Billy taken in a King's Cross photo booth in September 1978. As Billy remembers: "I used to cut these tribal marks into my cheeks every few weeks with a razor blade. I was really interested in African tribal scars, and I knew they had ash in there so I would rub cigarette ash in - very painful! I'm actually dressed there the most dangerous way you could be, as a punk rock teddy boy. The teds didn't like you wearing any ted gear.I've got a leopardskin waistcoat, bootlace tie and my hair flat. You had 40 year old men that would glass you. We'd go see Bo Diddley in '70s and we'd dress a little bit ted. I was on a few death lists locally with teddy boys." This September, Demon Music will issue a five-disc, 30th anniversary vinyl box set of Belinda Carlisle‘s 1987 album Heaven on Earth. Heaven On Earth was Belinda’s second solo album after leaving The Go-Gos and features her transatlantic number one single Heaven Is A Place On Earth and other hits, such as I Get Weak and Circle In The Sand. This new anniversary edition is a four-LP + CD set and comes packaged in a lift-off lid box. The four records come in individual LP sleeves and inner bags. The first features the original album, the second presents seven-inch versions of the singles, plus five 45s performed live on Belinda’s 1988 tour. LPs three and four feature various 12-inch single remixes. The CD repeats the original album, but adds three brand new recordings, one of which is an acoustic rendition of Heaven Is A Place On Earth (which will also feature on Belinda’s new album, Wilder Shores). The other news songs are Why (co-written with fellow Go-Go Charlotte Caffey) and a version of Leon Russell’s Superstar (best known from The Carpenters 1971 rendition). This set includes a booklet with notes, lyrics and photos from Belinda’s own collection. There are two versions up for pre-order on Amazon UK, an exclusive edition with the SIGNED PRINT (limited to just 500 sets), and the standard non-limited edition. There is no premium, if you opt for the signed version! Heaven On Earth 30th anniversary 4LP+CD box set will be issued on 29 September 2017.

Multiple Norwegian Grammy Award winning artist Ane Brun´s new album, ‘Leave Me Breathless’ will be released on October 6th on Balloon Ranger Records. The album is her seventh studio release and most personal yet given that it consists of fourteen cover versions. Love and romance have never been themes Ane Brun has shied away from, her songs frequently overflowing with candid, confessional insights. Nonetheless, Brun confides, “the whole project started with me falling head over heels with someone new. I recorded cover songs for this person because, quite simply, I was overwhelmed by emotions. The love story was short, but, when it ended, I continued the project.
