Wayne Graham (USA) Hayden and Kenny Miles were only eight and thirteen when they played in a band together for the first time. Their father had just founded a church in southeast Kentucky and the two were backing him in the services on drums and bass. The Whitesburg area, and that's a scientific fact, has one of the lowest qualities of life in all of the US. Since the mid 1970s the area is in a state of constant recession. Lowest per capita income, shortest life expectation, firm republican domination. The answer to how the two brothers and their delicate and ornery Alternative Country fit into that picture is rather simple: they don't. Their album Mexico, already their fourth and the first one to be released in Europe, oozes a seemingly supernatural maturity, even though the two brothers are only 26 and 21. Mexico, is concise and clever. Extremely catchy but never mundane. Artistic but not overly intellectual. The songs are often rather short and the remarkable, airy production, which takes place in the basement of their parents house, feels like an excercise in reduction. Beautiful chords and melodies, an incredibly melodic style of drumming and always at the right moment, wayward little details, breaks and lyrics, written for eternity: Like the wolf outside we are led by desire, we are ruled by the time we have lost? If one had to provide a simplified description of Escobar's new album, Bird of Prey, it would be summed up as a barrage of electrified grunge trash rock roll, which serves only to excite. This is more than obvious after checking out the opening track, ou Must Get Stoned.' It sets the tone for Bird of Prey by inviting the listener to a sound that is profusely upbeat, wild and frenetic. This is a style that remains largely consistent throughout the album, as Escobar tends to lean toward the edgier elements of garage-like stoner rock roll, with obvious indications toward grungy and greasy sounds. It's something that boasts a certain familiarity and even borders on addictive.

Erma Franklin was born in 1938 in Shelby, MS, but was raised - with her sisters, Aretha and Carolyn - in Detroit, MI. The son of the legendary preacher, gospel musician, and civil rights activist Rev. C.L. Franklin, Erma grew up singing in the church, like so many other R&B and soul greats of the time. After recording backing vocals with her sister, Erma got the chance in 1962 to cut her debut LP. Though she would only record one more LP and retire from music entirely in the 1970s, this debut shows a singer just as talented as her more famous sister. LP is pressed on virgin vinyl with artworked inner sleeve and free download card. E, the trio of Thalia Zedek (Come, Uzi, Live Skull), Jason Sanford (Neptune), and Gavin McCarthy (Karate), have crafted an album that fuses an explosive, industrial sound with the patience and reservation only practiced songwriters can invoke. While each member has decades of experience in the alternative scenes of rock music, their collaborative efforts have combined in a work that is both unlike anything thats come before them, and the result of three veterans working in total harmony. What sets E apart from their contemporaries is their almost youthful willingness to experiment, while having the maturity to show restraint and austerity. On their self- titled debut album, E have developed a sound that is both mechanically oriented and emotional, a combination they could only describe as soul music for machines. Zedek and Sanford first began working together in 2013 out of a desire to dive into a musical outlet more collaborative than their more solo-oriented efforts. Drawn by mutual respect for one anothers artistry, the two were energized creatively when exploring the combination of Zedeks unmistakable voice and inventive guitar lines with Sanfords sculptural homemade metal guitar sounds and stomp box rhythms. Zedek and Sanford approached longtime friend Gavin McCarthy about expanding on the unique sounds. Although McCarthy, a fan of E, originally thought of himself in the band on bass, once he was added as the drummer it became immediately clear that his expressive and agile playing was all the rhythm section E needed. E defies expectations - while having no bassist, the sound is driving and with an emphasis on rhythm. Delicate Fingers is a great example of their inventive approach. The propulsive tom-heavy drumming of McCarthy in tandem with Sanfords specially crafted bass-tone stomp boxes provides a relentless drive. Each member sings on the album, bringing their own lyrics and melodies to the table, and sometimes crossing and interweaving with anothers vocals. Where most bands with more than one singer might gravitate towards harmonies, E instead showcases each players voice as an individual, with McCarthy even providing some of the albums fiercest vocal performance on the explosive Candidate. Several songs find the band trading lyrical and vocal duties, such as I Want to Feel Good, where Sanfords mantra I want to feel good trades off with Zedeks impassioned lyrics about immigration. The name E itself is representative of the band – a trio of lines, each equal in length, each sticking out equally from a base. Because each player is so distinguished and distinct in their playing styles, E is able to exhibit total control over their sound, while still focusing on having the freedom to experiment. Whether its stomping on a wooden block housing the blade from a hacksaw for bass tones, or approaching the drum kit as a melodic instrument, the band said themselves, its about freedom.

This is Carla dal Forno's debut solo album, following time in cult Melbourne group Mole House and an earlier association with Blackest Ever Black as a member of F ingers and Tarcar. Her voice is an extraordinary instrument: both disarmingly conversational and glacially detached. It has something of the bedsit urbanity of Anna Domino, Marine Girls, Antena, or Helen Johnstone - stoned and deadpan - but it can also summon a gothic intensity that Nico or Kendra Smith would approve of. This voice is the perfect embodiment of dal Forno's emotionally ambiguous songs: their lyrics rooted in the everyday, observing and exposing a series of uncomfortable truths. ast Moving Cars' and hat You Gonna Do Now?' weigh up claustrophobia against loneliness, inertia against acceleration, doubling down versus taking off;
the title track acknowledges the provisional nature of love and real intimacy, then decides to brave it anyway. By the time we arrive at the startlingly sparse The Same Reply', the sense of dejection is absolute. The vocal-led pieces are interspersed with richly evocative instrumentals. Smothered in tape-hiss and reverb, the seasick synthesizer miniatures talian Cinema' and 'Dragon Breath' channel the twilit DIY whimsy of Flaming Tunes and Call Back The Giants. 'DB Rips drum machine and bassline are pure Chicago house, but then its dark choral drones nod to Dalis Car's dreams of blood-spattered Cornwall stone. 'Dry The Rain' drinks from a stream of moon musick that runs through Coil, In Gowan Ring, Third Ear Band, even the Raincoats' Odyshape.

Also Emil Nikolaisen from the Norwegian band Serena-Maneesh joins BJM on this album, plus vocal performance Tess Parks and Katy Lane. Anton Newcombe has been a very busy man these past two years, kicking off with the critically acclaimed Brian Jonestown Massacre album 'Revelation' in May 2014. After a successful UK and European tour, the BJM followed this up with the '+-'EP (Nov 2014). 2015 saw the release of 'Musique de film imaginé' (April);
an imaginary film soundtrack album featuring the track 'Bonbon' which has, ironically, been used in 'Dheepan';
the Palme D'or winner at Cannes film festival 2015. In June, Anton and Tess Parks embarked on a well received tour of the UK and Europe to support the release of 'I Declare Nothing'. Anton finished the year with a BJM mini-album release entitled 'Mini-Album Thingy Wingy'. The band have been touring the world since November 2015, playing Australia, New Zealand, and then in 2016 USA , Canada & Europe. They will play Desert Daze at Joshua Tree National Park in October and finish their tour in South America playing Argentina and Chile in November.

Originating from the ashes of the first line-up of The Fall, guitarist/vocalist Martin Bramah, keyboardist Una Baines and bassist Eric McGann joined forces with a new drummer and second guitarist and quickly signed with Rough Trade. Steeped in drugs and mysticism, the band quickly released their debut album, produced by Mayo Thompson and Geoff Travis. The Flood and Disney Boys came out as a double a-side and quickly made the indie charts. Then followed another session featuring Mayo and Geoff. Work and The House That Faded Out bettered the debut, and in fact Work easily remains the band's most often compiled song. Following their debut album, The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain), Blue Orchids acted as Nico's back-up band and recorded a number of songs perhaps originally intended for her. Four of them were released on the Agents Of Change 12 EP. Those tracks are compiled here on vinyl for the first time with two previously unreleased tracks. Her eleventh studio album is full of personally tinted songs. The first single is Down Daddy Down. Fake It Till We Die is the follow-up to Queen For A Day which was released earlier this year in March. For this album Anouk once again worked with her regular producer duo from Sweden, Tore Johansson and Martin Gjerstad. Anouk is playing three live shows in the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam on the 24st, 27th and 31st of May 2017, of which two shows are already sold-out.
