Downloadcode / Gatefold. On two 12”s and over the course of a staggering 78 minutes, big things are happening on »Jams«, Urban Homes’ monumental sophomore album. The highly ambititous attempt at a certain history of dance music, a sweaty night on the dance floor, an excursion into the fog…But one thing at a time: The 13 Jams go back to recordings of years of communal, MIDI- and hardware-based jam sessions which, over three years, were painstakingly discarded, refined, condensed, reconstructed and provided with occasional guest vocals by Hanitra Wagner (Ωracles, Die Heiterkeit). The album was mixed by Jan-Philipp Janzen (Von Spar) at Dumbo Studios, mastered by Cem Oral at Jammin’ Masters. Sonja Deffner (Die Heiterkeit, Jason & Theodor) is responsible for the stunning gatefold artwork. On »Jams«, Benjamin Riedl, Stephan Weinand and Oliver Bersin explore a history of dance music that is retraced in the 13 tracks: The seemingly clear cut references in titles such as »Verdub Lang Her (Stripped Down Killer Dub Jam)«, »Blue Note Jam« or »As High Acid Can Get (☺ Jam)«, however, are not to be taken as letters of intent, but—despite the playful handling of genre conventions and clichés—as hommages to the immaterial architecture of the club: the atmosphere, the vibe, the jam. In its rich texture, the dramatic composition of »Jams« reconstructs the resonance space of an excessive, foggy, and steamy night at the club, thereby approaching its point of interest. Despite the clear club compatibility (each of the 13 tracks will work on a dance floor worth its salt), Urban Homes do not shy away from sticky harmonic arrangements and melodies that are bound to be called »pop«. They do however, and this is one of the points of this great album, avoid any overarching narrative of organicity or authenticity which might refer the record to a context of »indie« music. Unlike the acclaimed and award-winning debut »Centres«, which wore the socialization of the (previously four) Urban Homes on its sleeve, this is rootless, nomadic music that is in the most beautiful sense »out there«. So far out there, in fact, that we seem to make out figures such as Pharaoh Sanders or Sun Ra through the ever-present (see titles such as »4/20 Jam« or »Summer Rolls (Midnight Munchies Jam)« for reference) fog. What seems so effortless, casual and relaxed over the entire run time, finally, is in fact merely evidence of the band’s musical mastery and precision: The staging of gaps, the fraying, dripping track ends and its general weirdness is part of the modeling of the history of a music that formed without a »quantise« command.

Punk classic reissued on limited edition coloured 7"! First ever reissue of The Unwanted's second and final single on Raw Records. Originally released in late 1977. Formed in March 1977 in London they played under their original name, SMAK, for the first two months, including the recording of the Live at the Roxy LP, before settling on the name of The Unwanted and playing at many of London's Punk hotspots, The Man In The Moon, Marquee Club, the Roxy and the Vortex. Although a highly entertaining live act, consistent line up changes resulted in a stop-start career. Members came and went including bassist Dave Postman from Flowers Of Romance, drummer Robbie from Peroxide Romance and those who went on to greater things, Robin Wills (later to the Barracudas) and Vince Ely (to the Psychedelic Furs). Their debut single 'Withdrawal' (on Raw records) was a superb slice of ramalamadolequeue, but the album they craved, and deserved, would never happen.The rest of the year was spent sporadically touring, before a second single, and a complete image overhaul, occurred at the start of 1978. 'Secret Police' (again on Raw) was a loping sub-reggae single and most fans felt short changed after their original full on punk attack. The band continued on for a few months more supporting their long time friends Siouxsie and the Banshees and X-Ray Spex whenever the opportunity arose. However in May, Ollie's past caught up with him as he was given a six month prison sentence for stealing a union jack flag from a flag pole in Bromley the previous June. The Unwanted were no more. It was a fruitful meeting of mind and voice, but one that promised the real bounty when those songs were taken on the road. This live album, The Bonnie Bells Of Oxford, captures the highlights of one of those special shows on vinyl and CD. The transatlantic recording of The Marble Downs is now distilled to a room on one night in Oxford town, and the force of the songs and performance concentrated similarly. It stands as a more genuinely collaborative record than its predecessor, with songs drawn from the oeuvres of both artists and reworked with a joyous spontaneity. Tensions are dissolved in this heady brew, between warring lovers, goat and ram, dark and light, heaven & hell, country and folk, this world and the next, a rhapsodic dialectic embodied by the ouborous vocals of Bonnie Billy & Lavinia Blackwall. It's a giddy whirling carnival ride over all too soon, which is the supreme advantage of having this on vinyl, when dizzy and reeling and eager for more, just wheel it up and go again. No live album can substitute for the precious fleetingness of music heard live but the best of them can offer something else, a document, recorded proof almost that something special was created on that stage on that night by those musicians in front of that audience. More importantly, a chance to create and hear something special yourself every time you spin this record

At the age of eight, she was already a "professional" musician: she began singing with a talented teen-age group that performed on a local radio show. She sang on radio up until she graduated from high school. Her dad took Carla along on trips with him outside Memphis, and so she got the taste for show business at a very early age. When Carla's tape with "Ghee Whiz, Look At His Eyes", which she had written herself, was brought to the attention of Atlantic Records, they sensed immediately that this was a potentially big hit-and a big new star! They signed Carla to a long term contract. The debut album Gee Whiz went to the top of the national popularity charts and brought Carla many bids for TV, radio and personal appearances, including the Dick Clark "American Bandstand" show. Next to "Ghee Whiz, Look At His Eyes", this LP also includes "A Love Of My Own", "It Ain't Me" and "For You".

This Becomes Us is the debut album from Future of the Left’s Julia Ruzicka. The album includes nine different vocalists, including Pixies’ Black Francis, former Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster frontman Guy McKnight, Kristian Bell (The Wytches), Billy Mason Wood (Blacklisters), Chantal Lewis Brown (Vodun), Damien Sayell (The St. Pierre Snake Invasion) and more. Each of the ten songs on This Becomes Us was written by Julia on bass guitar, before enlisting Ian Wilson (Art Brut) on guitar and Jack Eggleston (drums). A raw and wiry collection of songs, This Becomes Us rumbles with spontaneity while bending to the unique talents of each of the albums vocalists. This Becomes Us is released on November 11th via Prescriptions Music. The warped lead track ‘Painter Man Is Coming’ featuring Black Francis can be streamed now: Since 2000, Julia has recorded seven studio albums as a bassist, firstly as a member and co-founder of cult London based post-punk/hardcore band Million Dead before joining Welsh stalwarts Future of the Left in 2010. Sixteen years since coming to the UK from Australia (and fourteen years since her visa was meant to expire), This Becomes Us is Julia’s first venture as the creative lead of a musical project. She says: “I have loved and still love the role I play in my bands creatively, on bass, but as time passed throughout various writing periods for all kinds of records, I started to stockpile ideas on bass, and just wanted to see some of the embryonic ideas written on bass turn into fully realised songs.” The vocalists who feature on This Becomes Us are largely connections Julia has made through touring or met via musical circles. Not only did the vocalists contribute vocals, but each wrote the lyrics to their songs, giving each a more personal and natural feel. Some of the singers she had in mind for certain tracks, including Black Francis, who she wanted to feature on the album’s fourth song. Julia says: “It was an incredible outcome. I wrote the song with him in mind, being someone who has been listening to his music for a long time. To actually have the person singing on your song that inspired that piece of music is quite an incredible event and feeling.

Sisters Sari and Romy Lightman are former members of queer cold-wave band, Austra. Channelling their former forays in psychedelic folk into a kind of lushly accessible, warmly experimental dream-pop along with bandmates Johnny Spence and Evan Cartwright, they explore manipulated sounds, all with mood in mind. Assisted by friends Brodie West (alto-sax), Ryan Driver (flute) Simone Schmidt (voice of a young Neil Young) and Alex Cowan (Blue Hawaii) that exploration reaches full bloom on Do Easy, the sound of a band hitting their richly imagined, luxuriously executed stride. Keith O'Connell played Fender Rhodes piano and Prophet 5 synthesizer. The Shadows of Knight are primarily known for their hit version of "Gloria", originally written by Van Morrison's Northern Irish band Them. At the same time, the band today is regarded as one of the original punk bands. After releasing "Gloria" as a single in December 1965, which received massive regional airplay, the band soon released the Gloria album in the summer of 1966. Subsequent singles included their version of the Bo Diddley song "Oh Yeah" (which reached No. 39 nationally), "Bad Little Woman", and the powerhouse "I'm Gonna Make You Mine". The follow-up album Back Door Men [MOVLP1751] was also released in 1966 and both albums are considered to be seminal garage band albums

Schneider TM on his con-struction: I am very happy and honored to be invited to do an album for the Con-Struct series and wanted to do something special and genuine in this posthumous collaboration with Conrad Schnitzler. I wanted to get as close to his spirit as possible, so I created a musical situation as if we were actually collaborating together in the same room, with Conrad playing his pre-recorded sound-files or modular system and me dubbing and processing it live on the fly… almost as if it was a live-concert situation. Next to many other aspects of Schnitzler’s vast oeuvre, I am fond of the noisy, polyharmonic, polyrhythmic and sometimes quite humorous minimalism of his music, as well as his way of using chance, which often leads to magical and raw beauty. There are no other sounds on this record except for ones created by Schnitzler, sent through my system and processed live. During the sessions I had the feeling of being in a conversation with him. And when I met his widow, Gisela Schnitzler, she told me that they still talk every evening, more than five years after his death, and that he’s still around for sure. So, Conrad, thanks a lot for this experience!

ltd 200, insert, poster, remastered. It was the summer of 1985 when five deranged souls from Staten Island formed the still infamous Savage Thrust. Giving their name the reputation it deserved, they soon became well known in the NY metal scene for their intense and violent shows, but also recognized for both their impressive talent and their hunger to devour the world. In 1990, Savage Thrust’s first and so far only full-length album “Eat ‘em raw” came out on Avanzada Metálica. Released only on tape and vinyl, this monster of an album was received with huge enthusiasm not only in Mexico and NYC but by a worldwide audience! It was the combination of intense, aggressive, yet melodic and passionate riffs, with nerve-shattering vocals and a pounding rhythmic section that soon established the band as a major force in speed/thrash metal. When asked about their influences, their now-famous phrase “everything from Sabbath to Slayer...” stands still true to what Savage Thrust deliver. Based on a fast and dynamic speed/thrash metal assault, the band loved to challenge their listeners with some complex-yet-imaginative rhythms, surely something to make them stand out among all those other bands that were crowding the scene back in the days. Savage Thrust shared the stage with Anthrax, Exodus, Overkill, Manowar, Armored Saint, Nuclear Assault, M.O.D., plus many others, but, sadly enough, suffering from a row of line-up changes, in 1992 they decided to put the beast to sleep. But their devoted fans were not letting this one go away easily! In a twisted turn of fate, a Mexican fan got in touch with Savage Thrust, asking them to release the 1990 album on CD for the first time. The band saw his dedication and passion and accepted. The album master tapes had been lost in time, but another sound source could be found that was of the required quality, and it was taken to a proper studio to give this timeless jewel both new life and an improved sound. Now, this masterpiece of pure speed/thrash metal is finally available again on vinyl. Of course with all the quality you expect from High Roller Records, and with a fresh sound that was re-mastered especially for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony.

Foxbase Alpha is the 1991 debut album by Saint Etienne and it is a wonderful mix of both modern and retro influences with house music, ambient, samples and 60s pop coexisting easily for a unique sound not found anywhere else at the time.
