180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL 4 PAGE INSERT III Sides To Every Story is the third album by the Boston funkmetal band Extreme, originally released in 1992. It was the follow-up to the very successful Pornograffitti [MOVLP793] album. III Sides To Every Story was the last album with the band's original line-up: Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, Pat Badger and Paul Geary. The album is structured as a concept album in three sections labeled as "sides" - a play on the notion of "different sides to a story" and that of "sides" of a vinyl album. The sides, mentioned in the song "Cupid's Dead" as "three sides to every story" are named "Yours", "Mine" and "The Truth", and each features a distinct musical style and lyrical imagery. Most of III Sides To Every Story was recorded at New River Studios, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and the orchestral parts were recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London. The single Rest in Peace" reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.

Formed at the tail end of 1996, The Embrooks (Alessandro Cozzi-Lepri-guitar, vocals;
Mole-bass, vocals;
Lois Tozer-drums) were initially influenced by the moody, minor key mid-'60s US garage common to the New England area, and made an LP ("Separations", Dig The Fuzz 1999, reissued Dionysus 2000) and 2 singles ("But I Didn't Know Him", Dig The Fuzz 1998 and "The Embrooks" EP, Sympathy For The Record Industry, 1998) in that style. They quickly changed course towards the more aggressive sounds coming out of the UK and Europe in that same mid-'60s period, a transitional style which came to known as freakbeat. Here, the band found their true calling, and delivered 2 killer singles ("If You Let Me Go", Max Picou and "More Than Ever", Guerssen, both 1999) and their highest profile LP, "Our New Day" for legendary California label Bomp's Voxx imprint (2000). Numerous tours through the UK and Europe were undertaken, and they even found time to cross the pond into the US and Canada on a number of occasions, and appearing at such legendary events as the Wild Weekend, Las Vegas Grind, Cavestomp, Purple Weekend and many more besides. The follow-up LP, "Yellow Glass Perspections" (Munster, 2004) saw the band incorporating more psychedelic elements to their sound, but still very much rooted in the aggressive Mod-Rock that had served them well. As external commitments became ever more time-consuming, the band amicably parted in mid-2005, but now they're back!!

At last! This one took literally years to piece together. Does Dennis Bovell need an introduction? I think not but in case you don’t know, he is a musical polymath, top flight producer, dub legend and one of the finest artists the UK has ever produced. Optimo Music has worked with Dennis before when he went into Green Door studios and dubbed out Golden Teacher to the max. This Disco Plate EP was already in the works before then but various circumstances caused it to take until now to see the light of day. In 1981 Dennis released his solo album, “Brain Damage”. A double album that fused afro beat, funk, dub, jazz, blues and styles that have still to be genre-fied, it went over most people’s heads and is now a mainly forgotten masterpiece. From that album we present on the A side, the magnificent “Heaven”, a disco dub afro-sound dance floor bomb that somehow manages to sound more current today than it did 35 years ago. Also included is a slightly edited version that removes some of the vocals to focus on the groove a little more. On the AA side is the legendary “Escape Goat Dub”. Back in 1981, Dennis Bovell was perhaps thee hot producer of the day. Epic Records put Dennis in the studio with singer songwriter Garland Jeffreys to work on his new album. It turned out Mr. Jeffreys was a big dub fan so most of the studio time was spent doing wild dub tracks instead of the singer song writer type tracks the label was anticipating. The wildest of those was “Escape Goat Dub” which must be up there in the greatest dubs ever to shake the world. The label was patently at a loss as to what to do with it so stuck it out as a promo only 12” in France, and there it lay forgotten. After a long search Twitch picked up a copy in Rennes a few years back and got permission from Mr. Bovell and Mr. Jeffreys to put it out again. It’s not an expensive record or a mega rare record, just little known and definitely deserving to be heard by new ears. Epic dub abounds

She was noted for bringing a pop music style to R&B music in a series of hit songs for Atlantic Records in the 50s, such as "So Long", "Teardrops from My Eyes" and "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean". For these contributions, Atlantic became known as "The house that Ruth built" (alluding to the popular nickname for Old Yankee Stadium). In Brown's first audition, in 1949, she sang "So Long," which ended up becoming a hit. This was followed by "Teardrops from My Eyes" in 1950. Written by Rudy Toombs, it was the first upbeat major hit for Brown. It was Billboard's R&B number one for 11 weeks. The hit earned her the nickname "Miss Rhythm" and within a few months Brown became the acknowledged queen of R&B. Ruth Brown Rock & Roll is an album featuring tracks recorded between 1949 and 1956.

The album comprises of just the 2 tracks;
'New Cruiser' and 'Phase II', both of which exceed the quarter of an hour mark. 'New Cruiser' dives straight in with some deep, rolling bass, crashing drums and the trademark guitar from Vest. The track rolls and pitches along its way, based, as ever, on repetition (the bass of Hedley becomes positively hypnotic) while the guitar weaves heavy, reverb-drenched patterns in the sky. Blown Out have become masters of this - music that is heavy enough to affect the gravitational pull of nearby planets whilst still having the ability to mesmerise....the music that has you nodding whilst staring into the distance. This is what 'psychedelic' music is all about....not flowers and sugar cubes and paeans to long lost pastoral idylls, but music that can transport you. In Blown Out's case, that means a one way ticket to the far reaches of known space...with a huge shit-eating grin on yer face. If 'Phase II' may sound a tad familiar to some, that's because it is a reworked, longer version of the same on 'Celestial Sphere' (on a purely personal note, I'm glad that some of that album will make it on to vinyl). It continues pretty much where 'New Cruiser' left off...blistering, fuzzy wah-wah, jackhammer drums and undulating bass all coming together to create an Heironymous Bosch like vision of hell....Vest's guitar positively wails at times like some poor tormented denizen of the underworld. Like 'New Cruiser' it is the repetition that holds the power...for all of the freewheeling, freakout guitar, it has a structure and a form to which the rhythm section sticks rigidly. This is the less-than-secret ingredient in the Blown Out recipe..the tightness of form that allows a freedom of expression....sounds oxymoronic I know but without the drums/bass creating a framework the guitar of Vest would sound chaotic and functionless, but instead it sounds free but purposeful. In all, 'New Cruiser' is another unqualified success...guaranteed to scramble the brains and scare the neighbours...what's not to love.

Freedom is the 7th album by Baby Woodrose and is released more than four years after the previous album Third Eye Surgery came out in 2012. In the meantime Lorenzo has been busy with his other band Spids Nogenhat who gained a lot of popularity in Denmark and won two Danish Grammies for the album "Kommer Med Fred". Best rock album of the year and Best live band of the year. The title Freedom reflects on the current state of our society and how it affects us all. Consciously or not. The album introduces the modern slave song. Lorenzo Woodrose: "The inspiration for the album came from the title track, a cover we have been playing around with for about a year. Mostly known for the version Richie Havens improvised on Woodstock in 1969, it is actually a much older song, known as a gospel tune, a negro spiritual or a "slave song". This expression gave me the idea to write modern day slave songs, so all the songs on the new album deal with mind control, brainwash, hamster wheels, slavery and oppression". All Baby Woodrose albums have a different vibe and this time there has been an analogue approach to recording the nine songs. The whole album is recorded and mixed on tape, givng it a very rockband live-in-the-studio type of feel. This means no cut and paste and a minimal amount of overdubs. The album is produced by Anders Onsberg and Baby Woodrose in the STC studio in Copenhagen and mastered by Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence.
