You stick your hand deep into that tub, you know it’s gonna be cold, and you know it’s gonna be beer, but, dang, if it ain’t always a kick how surprisingly JUST RIGHT it is. Slingin’ Rhythm is just right, a finely honed, day-in-the-life brand of juke joint rhythm sitting in the sweet spot of American music invention between country, hillbilly, jazz and western swing. And while “The Train” is indeed a throwback, the funny thing is, the more retro he gets, the fresher he sounds. His songs about the everyday and the everyman, with their driving pulse and live-in-the-moment vibe, have a character and passion that go beyond a particular time. Even though it’s been over three years since his last album, Ride, no grass has grown under Wayne’s boots—he’s on the road 200 days a year. Slingin’ Rhythm, with its emphasis on off-the-cuff instrumental interplay and extended soloing, Wayne and his band drive down the centerline between tight and loose. Like a latter day Bob Wills, spontaneously calling out encouragement, or Hank Sr and Ernest Tubb effortlessly knocking out smile-through-the-pain honky-tonk, Wayne “The Train” Hancock delivers an unvarnished, BS-free restorative. When it comes to classic trope of the murder ballad, the subject is often spoken through metaphor or deeply formalized imagery. Not so with Wayne. He gets to the point in “I Killed Them Both” with a chilling bluntness that’d make Johnny Paycheck nod with approval. The thing is, though, you might miss the tragedy at first because that bouncy back beat will have you on the dance floor. On the languid lament “Dog Day Blues” you can feel the sweat rolling down the back of your neck. The attention to detail in “Small Bouquet of Roses” paints a distinct picture of heartbreak. Wayne teamed up once again with his producer-for-life Lloyd Maines (Terry Allen, Uncle Tupelo, Dixie Chicks, Ray Wylie Hubbard) and recorded on the fly, never doing a song the same way twice. That’s what gives Slingin’ Rhythm its relentless energy—and with a band this killer, you’ve got to let them off the leash. “2 String Boogie” and Merle Travis’s “Divorce Me C. O. D.” bounce along on crisp, jazzy guitar licks, referencing masters like Chet Atkins and Hark Garland right up through the neo-retro scenesters like Deke Dickerson. And the loungy Texas swing in “Wear Out Your Welcome” and the instrumental “Over Easy” freshens up the template laid out by the great Texas Playboy steel player Leon McAuliffe. As always, Wayne writes what he knows with the clarity and honesty of a door slam. Like the title track, both a tenacious statement of purpose and a straight-up, no-chaser bio, says: “I love the road and my plans are never to retire, and anyone who says that I will is nothin’ but a liar…cuz that’s how I make my livin’, slingin’ rhythm”

Tygers Of Pan Tang are in the studio working on a new album having signed a deal with Mighty Music/Target Group. The self-titled album will be released in August, with a European tour to follow. It's being recorded at Newcastle's Blast Studio. Mainman Rob Weir tells TeamRock: “This is a landmark album for the Tygers. Self-titled and self-produced, we feel we have written some pretty special hard rock songs. "The sound is classic Tygers and the new cover version we have chosen to record is spectacular – after all, Love Potion #9 is 34 years old. Peaceville Records is proud to announce the signing of US blackened noise occultists T.O.M.B. for the release of their impending Fury Nocturnus album, currently set for release on 21st October 2016. Through 18 years of existence, T.O.M.B. (Total Occultic Mechanical Blasphemy) has created a multitude of horrific, spell-binding sound structures across thirteen different releases including compilations, splits, EPs and LPs. During that time, the project has devoted itself to developing material with an essence directly derived from areas and elements associated with death, paranormal activity and occult practices. Formed in 1998, & inspired by projects such as Abruptum, Havohej, Samael, Sunno))) and Wardruna, T.O.M.B. members No-One, B. Zimimay and Samantha Viola – the trio also notable as King Dude-signed act Dreadlords – orchestrated their latest recordings into thirteen hypnotic and malicious tracks, resulting in a ritualistic album outside of the boundaries of contemporary Ambient, Doom, Industrial, Noise or traditional Black Metal music. When creating these field recording soundscapes, certain necromantic instrumentation was used: human and animal bone, cemetery crypt doors, tombstones and coffins, and audio EVP equipment. Key musicians contributing their craft throughout Fury Nocturnus are legendary drummer Hellhammer of Mayhem, shaman doom guitarist John Litchko of Goreaphobia/Necrotion & the mighty death industrial noise artist Grant Richardson from the project GNAWED, along with famous sound engineer Alan Douches of West Westside studios in New York. Weg (Gone or A way - released in 2010) was a nostalgic journey through dark streets of his past, only escorted by a sparse piano and a thin voice. And they repeated this acclaim when Swerts released Anatomie van de Melancholie (Anatomy of Melancholy - 2013), a collection of gorgeous songs inspired by gloomy artists like Luc De Vos, Patricia De Martelaere, Johan Heldenbergh and Jotie T'Hooft. In September Swerts will display the post-apocalyptic world that is Schaduwland (Shadowland): the soundtrack of a zombified existence after the great catastrophe, the musical score of his horror year 2014. After experimenting with different musicians on style and sound, the band records their debut album in 2010, entitled LIVING ON THRASH. In 2011 Josef Schweng becomes drummer of the band and Alex Binias bass player. After numerous gigs and two european tours the band finally releases their second album KILLING FAST in 2016.

Fully embracing modern 21st century recording techniques, Southworth has transformed his uniquely antiquated style, somehow bridging the vast, impenetrable gulf between Tame Impala and Burt Bacharach to forge a new fluid and cohesive stamp - part future shock, part ghost - at once strangely contemporary and anachronistic. Merging disparate sources has consistently been a signature of the UK-born, Canadian-raised songwriter. Now, combined with a lyrical view equal parts surreal and realist, this singular trademark glows irrepressibly. “I’m not sure exactly what it is I’ve made,” says John, “some kind of conversation between the new and old world I hope.” Expressing an unsettled, dreamlike vision of lives in crisis, amidst species and eras fast disappearing, Small Town Water Tower (his 10th full-length, produced by Derek Hoffman) sounds like nothing in Southworth’s previous canon, nor in the current pop-sphere - a dizzying, cinematic and brilliantly crafted event. Since his orchestral-pop debut Mars Pennsylvania (1998 Bar None), he has recorded a succession of uncompromising, genre-defying records, including most recently SPIRITUAL WAR Cassette Tape (2011 - recorded on a SONY Cassette corder), Failed Jingles for Bank of America and Other U.S Corporations (2012 featuring actual unused jingles) and the psychedelic cabaret-operetta, Easterween (2012). His songs have been written for and/or covered by Canadian artists Buck 65, Sarah Slean, Martin Tielli, Hawksley Workman, Veda Hille, Jully Black and THOMAS. Southworth’s first “children’s” book Daydreams for Night was published last year in Japan;
a former film student, he makes his own videos as well as for others.

By the end of 1957, the rockabilly heyday of Sun Records was virtually over. Ray Smith's importance to the legacy of the label is that his first Sun session in January 1958 heralded the new era of rock 'n' roll. Despite recording a string of excellent rocking singles for Sun, commercial success eluded Smith. A year after a series of outstanding concert performances in the UK and Holland during 1978, Ray Smith died tragically as a result of a shooting accident on 29 November 1979. 'Shake Around' Includes 'So Young', ockin' Bandit' and [1]reak Up', which he recorded several months before labelmate and friend Jerry Lee Lewis' made it a hit single. 'Shake Around' will be released having been newly remastered from the original tapes and pressed on audiophile-quality 10-inch vinyl. The LP contains definitive career spanning sleeve notes by Adam Komorowski and the first 1,000 copies will be released on limited edition yellow vinyl. "Nobody wanted recognition more than Ray.
