Never Seen The Light Of Day - четвертый студийный альбом "Never Seen The Light Of Day" популярной шведской рок-группы Mando Diao. Вот что писал про альбом ROLLING STONE в 2007 году: "Вдоволь наигравшись в гаражный рок, квинтет Mando Diao несколько сменил ориентиры. К звуковой палитре четвертого диска группы (первенец шведов «Bring ‘Em In» вышел еще в 2002-м) добавились женские подпевки и богатые струнные, а численность приглашенных музыкантов достигла двадцати человек. Корректировка формата благотворно сказалась на песнях Mando Diao. Они все еще звучат небрежно, но от некоторых вещей теперь повеяло битловским мелодизмом. Впрочем, такой поворот был предсказуем — Густаф Норен и Бьорн Диксгард, собственно, и сошлись-то на почве любви к ливерпульской четверке. We’re all on our own unique emotional road trips. Infinite Avenue happens to be Carmen’s. Here she is, holed up in the Motel Nowheresville, unpacking a suitcase full of stories of guilt, desire, rage, apathy, love and friendship, loneliness, nature, inner demons and other tales of twenty-first century womanhood. Carmen Villain is half-Norwegian and half-Mexican, born in the USA and now living in Oslo, Norway, having moved back after living in London for a few years. She has a lot of stories to tell. A makeshift studio, an infinite avenue. Writing, recording and producing alone, Carmen’s intensely personal songs are entirely self-created, made up of tapestries of guitar, piano, programmed drums and synths, making the most she could out of her limited gear. Her music, her rules… Once she had arrived at enough tracks for a follow-up album to 2013’s Sleeper, some of them were mixed with experimental house producer Matt Karmil and Quietly was treated by noise improviser Helge Sten (aka Deathprod). Taboo-busting Norwegian artist Jenny Hval contributes lyrics and vocals on Borders, a song especially relevant among today’s tightening frontiers in America and elsewhere. Red Desert is titled after the legendary Antonioni movie about a woman’s survival tactics in a surreal industrial landscape full of threats and existential crisis. With Infinite Avenue, Carmen Villain’s songwriting and production skills have taken a major leap forward, and on the final, ethereal Planetarium her voice shoots into the stratosphere, riding the comet tail of a Korg bass drone. It’s about acknowledging the immensity of the universe, while remembering that we’ve each got our own private constellation of issues to deal with down here.

For an album that's about "not feeling comfortable with really anything," as VanGaalen says, Light Information is nonetheless a vivid, welcoming journey through future worlds and relentless memories. The rich soundscapes and sometimes jarring imagery could only come from the mind of a creative polymath--an accomplished visual artist, animator, director, and producer, VanGaalen has scored television shows, designed puppet characters for Adult Swim, directed videos for Shabazz Palaces, Strand of Oaks, METZ, Dan Deacon, and The Head and the Heart, and produced records for Women, Alvvays, and others. While alienation has always been a theme of VanGaalen's music, Light Information draws on a new kind of wisdom--and anxiety--gained as he watches his kids growing up. "Being a parent has given me a sort of alternate perspective, worrying about exposure to a new type of consciousness that's happening through the internet," he says. Throughout the dark-wave reverb of Light Information are stories of paranoia, disembodiment, and isolation--but there's also playfulness, empathy, and intimacy. The product of six years' work, going back even before 2014's Shrink Dust, Light Information emerged from the experimental instruments that fill VanGaalen's Calgary garage studio. As always, VanGaalen wrote, played, and produced all of the music on Light Information (save Ryan Bourne's bass part on "Mystery Elementals" and vocals on "Static Shape" from his young daughters Ezzy and Pip), and designed the cover art.

Midnight Sister - the project of intense creatives Juliana Giraffe and Ari Bazoulian - is brought to you by the isolating landscape of the San Fernando Valley - its colors, diners, lunatics, neon lights. Both lifelong residents of this storied valley, Giraffe and Bazoulian have only become more inspired by the area's mythology over the years: its two-faced magical wonderland and tragic circus. And Saturn Over Sunset, their debut, works almost as an album version of Altman's Shortcuts, each song a character study of the valley's odd personae. Giraffe, 23, the daughter of an LA disc jockey, was raised almost exclusively on disco and Bowie. Her lyrics and lyrical melodies, informed very much by her film-making background, were composed gazing out from a tiny retail window on Sunset Boulevard. Her Rear Window-like longing allowed her imagination to run wild and cook up the wild narratives that would fill Balouzian's compositions. Balouzian, 27, is classically trained and already a go-to arranger for odd-pop names like Tobias Jesso Jr. and Alex Izenberg. Midnight Sister represents a first for both of them. It's Giraffe's first time writing and performing music. And it's Balouzian's first foray into playing true pop music. Saturn Over Sunset is a shared musical vision of Hollywood's oddest corners. It is the baroque, eldritch alley you must pass through to fine the speakeasy night of your life. You'll come out bleary-eyed and the sunrise will be pouring all pink and orange through the smog and palm trees.

Lord Youth about Lord Youth LORD YOUTH is, for the moment, the obscure project of Micah (pronounced: my-kah) Blaichman from Queens, NY. Following a self-titled vinyl 10" EP with 6 songs and the 2 track single pril25th' (2 videos + digital) ray Gardens' is his debut full-length album, released Sept 2017 through BB*ISLAND. LORD YOUTH will perform at the Reeperbahnfestival, Hamburg Germany at the end of September and preparations are underway for more concerts in Europe around that time. "a songwriter of not inconsiderable talent... dark, ghostly gravitational downbeat etudes." German Rolling Stone Music as blue as the album's cover. Like twilight, there's a soft radiance in every dark corner. The voice dry as a rough red wine, bits of acoustic guitars, slide, twang and mallets all used sparingly. Ghostly keyboard sounds, like a flying curtain all over it. Poltergeist-drums;
tick-tock percussion, like the sound from a broken grandfather clock, commemorating progressing time, just before or after witching hour. Lord Youth appears as a laconic master of imagination, of the blue hour. Micah Blaichman croones and wallows with smoky baritone through a heart heavy set noir of undefined origin. Every now and then, he speeds up the pace, like the wake-up call start of "Plastic Bombs", the sketchy garage noise of "Moonbelly", or the rough americana rock'n'roll of "What's That Sound". Either way: it is the reverberation of a monochrome pop past. His songs flash as crystal deposits in a shadow lining parade of forgotten gospels, permeated with undefined grief and the classicism of a lost song craft. As muse Lord Youth cites the songs of Skip James, the CAN album Ege Bamyasi and literary the writings of William T. Vollmann. Chiefly he recalls the discovery of a Chilton Talentmaker keyboard, an organ from the early seventies that produces sounds through light scanned from interchangeable optical discs. By the same token the light changes in the studio, which on this occasion contained a large stained-glass window that bathed the room in reds and greens and blues.
