Having remixed Depeche Mode and DJ Hell as well as releasing a new Fixmer/McCarthy single with Douglas McCarthy (of Nitzer Ebb), 2017 has already proven to be a productive year for Terence Fixmer. With the new Force EP, the Berghain resident follows up on 2016's Beneath The Skin EP (O-TON 97), offering four stylistically different but congenial Techno scenarios for club use. The record's eponymous track on A1 doesn't think twice: the initial signal horn starts as sudden as the staggered kick drum rhythm, reoccurring throughout the cut's 6-minute playtime while sustained and oppressive screams from a synth, extra multifaceted EBM percussion and synth drones add to the overall sombre atmosphere of “Force”. The musical vibe distinctly changes with “Sidewalk” which puts more focus on synth melodies – like its predecessor a Techno cut per se, but with a stronger accent on hypnotic motifs. On B1 “Melting Planets” emphasises the kick: clocking in slightly slower than the other three tracks – at 122 bpm – the bass drum here sounds extra vivid, ever-present and spot-on, just as if Terence was playing the drum kit sitting right next to you. With additional percussion and swirling melodies “Melting Planets” is a lulling, mesmerizing meditation in Dub Techno. “Striking Patterns” on B2 links to the best moments of Force EP's A-side, combining bone-dry bass drum hits and distinctive brazen, banging noises, pulsing synths pads and sizzling surface sounds

Optimo Trax 30 celebrates a double 30 year anniversary: the original release date of “Rejekto” and 30 years since Twitch started dj’ing. In 1987, Twitch, who wasn’t known as Twitch yet, picked up a copy of “Rejekto” at Glasgow’s then numero uno import shop, 23rd Precinct. He was smitten. Shortly after that he got his first ever dj gig and played “Rejekto” in his first ever dj set. Nobody danced to it. He kept playing it and still nobody danced to it. Eventually he gave up playing it, but never stopped loving it. A few years ago he felt the time was right to try playing it again, and this time, people danced to it. In fact, people loved it and would ask about it and shriek in delight when they heard it. There is often a lot of false nostalgia talked about in dance music and how it “was better back in the day?”. Well, in some ways it was but in many it wasn’t, and 30 years later it feels as if perhaps ears are more open, or perhaps “Rejekto” was just ahead of its time? From Germany, written and produced by Ra-Hen and Talla 2XLC, Robotiko Reject’s “Rejekto” was the inaugural release on the Techno Drome International label. With a powerful and seductive vocal sung in Romanian it has latterly been categorised as EBM/Techno but at the time didn’t really fit into any convenient genre. Twitch called it electrobeat. To celebrate this 30th release on Optimo Trax, the 12” comes in a special sleeve designed by Katie Shambles and Andrew Beltran. As well as featuring the original classic “Perfekto” and “U.S. Dub” versions, this reissue features a slo-mo cover version by long-time Twitch friend and ally, the mysterious Frenchbloke who was the only other person he knew back then who also loved this wonderful record. Legendary Nitsa Club from Barcelona comes back releasing new music fifteen years after their first venture with Nitsa Recordings. The new label is called Nitsa Traxx. The essence is not to focus in a particular sound, but try to cover all the range of styles you can usually listen to in this acclaimed club. Besides that, the main idea is pretty simple: the A side includes the original track and the B side comes with a remix. First release comes from Valencian producer Daniel Kyo. After releases in Drumpoet and Bordello A Parigi, on this occasion Kyo dives into deep techno with a nostalgic hint to EBM. 'Nacht Drei' sounds like one of those tracks from the infamous Ruta del Bacalao, but with a very nowadays production. Sharp and hypnotic, but with a certain sense of epic humor. Valencia style. On the flip, Marc Piñol remixes the original track and makes it sound blurry, obsessive, fast and mental. Inspired by his legendary warmups in Nitsa Club, expect nothing more and nothing less that a simple but not-so-simple mixing tool with a personal touch. One of those long tracks for DJs who just love to make lingering transitions to flip out the crowd. Nitsa Traxx will come back very soon with new music from people related to the club. Frankfurt’s Gregor Tresher delivers his sixth studio LP, ‘Nightcolors’, on his own Break New Soil imprint this summer. Having had recent success with remixes of Depeche Mode and Moby and releases for Cocoon, Drumcode and Music Man, Tresher is in the form of his career, which is no mean feat considering the bevvy of quality labels and clubs the DJ/Producer has graced since hitting the decks in the ‘90s. Initially focused on the true sound of electro with his Sniper Mode alias (check his two LPs under that name for Mikrolux), Tresher has since found joy in writing house and techno with releases on Ovum and Moon Harbour. ‘Nightcolors’ sees Tresher deliver house and techno but with a strong twist of the moody electro that his previous aliases were known for. The opening track, ‘Calling’ cuts an austere and aggressive figure without the use of any beats before dominating, techno-driven bangers ‘Permafrost’ and ‘Black Relief’ kick in like punchy statements of intent. The atmospheric, broken electro of ‘Pelican Dreaming’ and ‘Apparition’ provide the strongest links to Sniper Mode while ‘Under a Red Moon’ and ‘Nightcolors’ show two opposing sides of Tresher’s forays into melody driven techno. All in all, ‘Nightcolors’ is a powerful and immersive listen that leans towards darker, more uncompromising sounds without losing balance. 'Nightcolors' is released on Break New Soil on July 5th, 2013 with a tour that takes in Movement, Love Family Park, Exit Festival, Sonar, Loveland, SonneMondSterne, Barrakud Festival and ADE as well as club shows at Berghain, Fabric, Studio80, Output, Sankeys (Ibiza), Goa and Watergate amongst others.
