Through The Window" is the new album by PRURIENT, his first for Blackest Ever Black. It is, in a sense the climax of the journey that Dominick Fernow began with 2011's "Many Jewels Surround The Crown" 7" and continued with that year's "Bermuda Drain" LP and "Time's Arrow" EP. It was recorded before the Hospital Productions founder's move to Los Angeles, but in tone, subject matter and scale it firmly anticipates his current stint navigating the desert city's "hall of mirrors, sycophants, fair-weather friends and social vampires." The three pieces featured on "Through The Window", including the 18-minute title track, also represent the ultimate expression of Fernow's affection for European techno forms, and his ability to apply them to his own uniquely lacerating purpose. Marco Bailey: “Of course, the main theme of the album is techno. It’s the sound I’m known for and the sound I love to play around the world because of its relentless energy. Yet, my love for music goes way beyond techno and I love to show that on my albums. I’m a big fan of guys like Boards Of Canada who influenced me to make Grolzham, the opening track of High Volume. I also like Tech House and pumping/energetic quality House. That’s why the album contains one Tech House tune by the name of Funk That Groove. I recorded High Volume over a period of 6 -7 months. Not every day because of my touring it’s not always possible to do so. But I do use my laptop on the road to capture ideas. Then, when I’m back in the studio I finalize all these ideas into complete tracks. I wanted my album to build like a DJ set. Deep and a bit slower at the start.. Derrick May and Jimmy Edgar have put together a compilation called We Love Detroit, due for release in December on We Love Recordings. May and Edgar represent two very different generations of Detroit electronic music. May became a key part of the movement's first wave in the '80s, helping to forge its steely sound both on his own and with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson (the other two members of the so-called Belleville Three). Edgar didn't show up until nearly 20 years later, and when he did he broke with the tradition sounds of his predecessors, going instead for something more flamboyant and pop-influenced. We Love Detroit shows where both artists are at now. May combines techno classics from John Beltran and Carl Craig with newer cuts from the likes of KiNK and Petar Dundov, while also nodding to new school Detroit producers like Kai Alce and Andres. Edgar's half is more contemporary, highlighting artists like fellow Hotflush artist Lando Kal and 100% Silk's Magic Tour.
