Honing a craft that is rooted in edit culture as an ethos, but has since long left that bumpy road dependable on samples and their clearance, Tiger and Woods make On The Green Again work as the second album that defies the difficulty usually attached to such ventures. 10 brand-new tracks (and three previously released bonus tracks on the CD version) make up the course between peak-time prime cuts similar to RockMeLoveMe or Come And Get My Lovin and an almost heart-aching track like Endless Affair. Mixed with bits and pieces in-between and neatly placed between a classic intro and outro segment, those tracks are testament to that aforementioned wider scope. To put it in a nutshell, On The Green Again is not concerned with leaving a comfort zone, but with making you comfortable no matter which zone you are in.The only mystery that is left now, is how long we have to wait for the third one.

This is a journey into sound…’ These familiar words, accompanied by the rumble of a distant train, signal the opening of ‘Let’s Take A Trip’, the sophomore album from Terrel Wallace aka Tall Black Guy. Since 2013’s ‘8 Miles To Moenart’ TBG has cemented his position as a standard bearer for the current hip-hop / beats scene. Born in Detroit and now residing in the UK, Wallace’s signature style of incredibly clever sample flips and deft production chops has won fans across the globe including Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Jazzy Jeff and House Shoes. Since his debut release in 2011 (a daring and addictive flip of Fela Kuti), TBG has become revered for his unique take on soulful hip-hop production. The swing of the drums, the textures of the instrumentation as well as a fearlessness in taking on the classics (his Soundcloud page includes flips and chops of tracks from James Brown, De La Soul and Michael Jackson) have marked him out from the crowd. One of the best-kept secrets in the scene, his singular talent is now beginning to get the recognition it deserves. In the last 12 months he has remixed Little Dragon and been invited to take part in Jazzy Jeff’s Playlist Retreat alongside the likes of Eric Lau, James Poyser, Ali Shaheed Muhammed, Questlove and countless others. For this album Wallace had a simple inspiration: ‘This album is all about taking a journey. As simple as that. Be it physical, emotional or spiritual. It's asking and answering personal questions from myself within some of the tracks and also touching on social issues i.e. racism, inequality and privilege...that have been at the forefront of my mind over last three years.’ Sonically there is also a shift: ‘Jazz has definitely been more of an influence in this project, as I have been really inspired by so many up and coming musicians who I've been blessed to connect with’. Some of these musicians, including Kenny Keys, Miles Bonny, Diggs Duke and Dee Jackson feature on the project as well as regular collaborators Ozay Moore and Mario Sweet and fellow Playlist alumni Daniel Crawford and Masego. Formed in 1978, Soggy started with covers of Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, MC5 and the Stooges but quickly began writing their own songs and developed a unique style, mixing hard rock and punk rock in a Stooges vein. In April of ’81 the Waiting for the War 7” was released and a video was shot for French TV. After more than 100 concerts the band split in July of 1982 but their cult status has only grown over the years. The French label Memoire Neuve released their record in an edition of just 500 copies and it is now long out of print. Original copies of that LP and the single are now in hot demand in collector circles, with original copies of the single selling for over $200. This release from Outer Battery is the full LP, including the tracks from the Waiting for the War single!

After releasing previous works through independent labels, the band signed a deal with the legendary heavy metal and hard rock label Roadrunner Records. By the time Shelter released the album Mantra, the punk rock scene was in evidence in America, especially in California, with bands like Bad Religion, Rancid, The Offspring and Green Day achieving mainstream popularity. With Mantra the band moved away from the more punk pop style and created a melodic hardcore style. The song Here We Go became an anthem. Lyrically the album focused mainly on Hare Krishna philosophy and the problems the Western Civilization creates. The first song, Message of the Bhagavad, is introduced by an excerpt of a Bhagavad Gita verses reading. This classic album is now finally available again on vinyl!

Black Screen Records will release Jonah Senzel's amazing soundtrack of the critically acclaimed indie game Pony Island on vinyl this November. The bubbling 8bit soundtrack will come on limited edition 180 gram clear vinyl. The artwork was exclusively designed by the game's creator Daniel Mullins. The soundtrack comes with a Steam code, which can be used to download full game as well as the mp3 version of the soundtrack on Steam. Composer Jonah Senzel on the soundtrack: "Pony island is a game with two distinct faces: the cheerful outer facade, and the evil lurking under the surface. Most of the soundtrack is based around this idea of the "devil within" that's present throughout the game. The most fun part of writing the soundtrack was composing really over the top cheerful cutesy Tracks for the cheery sections and then turning around and getting as gritty and evil sounding as possible for the devil sections. For the happy sections I channeled my inner children's TV composer using fun, light and bouncy melodies played on old school 8bit synths as well as real instruments like the ukulele. For the demonic sections I also took a lot of inspiration from classic video game chiptune sounds, but I modified them to sound like they were glitching or broken in some way. Compositionally I incorporated some elements that connect back to the game's main theme, like the use of augmented fourths within chords Which were banned in earl classical music since they were thought to be the Devil's interval'. Overall it was really exciting to write for such a unique and interesting game. I'd like to thank Daniel Mullins for creating the perfect world for this crazy soundtrack to live in. " A trippy and unique experience that will make the player desperate and stunned at the same time. Pony Island is probably most enjoyable when played without knowing what to expect. Without giving too much away, it can be said that the game works mostly on the meta-level and it will take some time to figure out where the story is heading. A marvelous game for long and sleepless nights that will leave you pondering and amazed, while enjoying it's varied music that perfectly fits the constant ups and downs of cheerful and vicious moments. Schlachthofbronx is back with new music! The DJ and production duo from Munich/Germany will release the Haul & Pull Up EP 1 in October, including four tracks full of bass-heavy excursions into different types of club music. 6 brand new cuts that mix a range of styles with his vivid use of samples and improvised drum programming. 'The Ultimate' kicks things off with a sliding synth riff that wouldn't sound out of place on a '91 Prodigy track with cut up rave vocal interjections over Bu's trademark pulsing bass. 'Bang with the Funk' crushes the 1-2-3-4-5 Sesame Street song, chopping its samples into hard shapes. Things turn dark and minimal with 'The King' which features a sample from Fresh, with strange atonal tones playing off against spooky chords and a tactile bass. On the flipside 'What Am I?' pairs syncopated snares and 4/4 bass pulses while percussion bangs and shimmers over clipped diva refrains and anxious piano. 'Bu'Moon' meshes together some pumping horn blurts and some old fashioned steamy synth wooshes that wouldn't feel out of place on a 50's sci-fi film into a relentless battle track. 'Electric Energy' finishes the EP, sampling an unusual pop source and chopping them over pulsing half time subs that pitch up and down around slipping and sliding drum hits.

It’s fitting that Renée Fleming, 'the people’s diva', would make an album of pop songs that feels more like a labor of love than a crossover attempt. "Dark Hope" is filled with songs and arrangements that wouldn’t appear on a typical attempt to bring a classical vocalist into the mainstream -- witness her dark, intricate take on the Mars Volta’s “With Twilight as My Guide”. It should almost go without saying that Fleming's voice is just as remarkable here as it is in her usual milieu, but the album proves time and again that she is game for just about anything. Fleming learned how to sing in the more intimate, confessional style that "Dark Hope's" singer/songwriter and alternative rock fare requires just for this project;
combined with her interpretive gifts, she does a masterful job of remaining true to the spirit of the original songs while offering her own twists on them. Her voice dances over the wordy, syllable-heavy lyrics of Willy Mason's “Oxygen”, brings a mature moodiness to “Stepping Stone” that was lacking in Duffy's spitfire version, and remains connected to the intimacy in the Arcade Fire’s “Intervention” even as the song swells around her. Indeed, "Dark Hope's" swelling arrangements are as much a weakness as they are a strength: at times, it feels like the album’s producers didn’t trust that her gorgeous voice singing these songs would be enough of a draw. Fleming is divinely torchy on Muse's “Endlessly”, but her trip-hop-tinged surroundings are no match for her rich vocals. Her interpretation of Band of Horses' “No One’s Gonna Love You” is let down by an arrangement that sounds like generic alt-pop -- though, on the other hand, it’s a relief that it doesn’t sound like "A String Tribute" to Band of Horses. Despite these problems, both of these songs are among "Dark Hope's" standout tracks, along with the subtly sultry electro-folk turn on Jefferson Airplane’s “Today” and the urgent yet airy reading of Death Cab for Cutie's “Soul Meets Body”. It’s just frustrating that even songs as revered as Leonard Cohen's “Hallelujah” -- which is virtually a standard at this point -- are burdened with anything that takes away from a voice as remarkable as Fleming's singing a melody that powerful. She deserves credit for undertaking such a bold enterprise.
