Now in his eighties, Roedelius is still very productive and not only performs regularly but also released an impressive amount of work in the recent years. Ubi Bene sees him join forces with Leon Muraglia, electronic artist and guitar player of a younger generation who besides his solo recordings also works as DJ and studio musician. The 12 tracks of the album add up to an elegant musical trip that meanders between moody piano ambient, experimental passages and contemporary electronica that a new fascinating chapter to Roedelius' impressive oeuvre.

It’s a short and simple story: I got fed up with the big productions and long sound checks that comes with Cult of Luna. So, it’s back to the roots of my salad days in Umeå. I decided to write 14 songs in 14 days inspired by the bands I worshiped as vegan straight edge punk kid: Judge, Battery, Integrity, ACME and Damnation AD. The concept is to not spend 1 000 days in the studio and nitpick over every drumbeat and production details. The musical destruction has to be alive and direct, tailor-made to induce mosh mayhem and walls of death. I hooked up with Fredrik and Christian, both with a past in the crust/grind terror force Totalt Jävla Mörker. One rehearsal sealed the deal and we recorded three tracks in one night about to be released as a 10 inch vinyl on the Norwegian metal label Indie Recordings. Adding guitar player Marita and bass player Christoffer 138 (DS-13, AC4, Epileptic Terror Attack, Sonic Ritual etc) the lineup was complete. And thus, we are ready to slam dance all over the world. I also had no idea the band was a quartet, or that they lived in San Francisco (in Kozelek's case, via Ohio). At least for me, Red House Painters existed outside of a scene, too. They had a familiar record label with its own distinct aesthetic, but that was the only real touchstone. Not that any of this is bad. The songs on the first four albums—1992's Down Colorful Hill, 1993's pair of self-titled albums (the first nicknamed Rollercoaster, the second Bridge, after the photographs on their covers), and 1995's Ocean Beach (here packaged with the Shock Me EP from a year earlier)—felt personal and private enough that it was easy to get lost in your own head while listening. They featured heartbreaking, personal lyrics and were accompanied by stark, often naturalistic photographs on the covers. The package came with the crystalline, spacious production and Kozelek's clear, powerful voice, and these things merged in an almost mystical way. The material felt less composed or worked over;
it was more like the songs were birthed fully formed. They could drift on for more than 10 minutes, but you kind of gave up on keeping track of this kind of thing. When old albums get reissued, which they increasingly do, the practice usually offers a chance to hear familiar songs again, sometimes with remastering, maybe a few bonuses. Some listeners are feeling nostalgic, seeking to recreate the original context in their minds, while many others are learning about the material for the first time, and aren't all that clear on the context beyond the updated liner notes. 4AD's decision to reissue Red House Painters' first four albums as a fairly spare limited-edition Record Store Day box set (on bronze vinyl) and as individual album reissues on black vinyl offers a unique angle: The band's cantankerous frontman (as we can now call him after that whole War on Drugs debacle) is much better known, and known quite differently, all these years later. Pentagram new studio album ‘Curious Volume! Legendary U.S. heavy/doom metal band Pentagram reunites with Peaceville Records for its new studio album, Curious Volume, to be released 28th August. Featuring 11 classic heavy metal compositions with catchy hooks from core band members Victor Griffin, Greg Turley, and Bobby Liebling (Pete Campbell on the drums completes the band’s lineup), the album was recorded with Swedish producer Mattias Nilsson at studios located in Maryland and Virginia. Additional recording took place in Tennessee with Grammy-Award-winning producer Travis Wyrick, who also produced Pentagram’s previous album, Last Rites. The album’s cover artwork was provided courtesy of Richard Schouten. To support the new album, the band has tours planned in North America and Europe throughout 2015/2016. Formed in the early 1970s with a debut album, Relentless, releasing in 1985, Pentagram has survived through more than four decades filled with adversity and triumph to become the legendary international act it is today, firmly stamping its name into the heavy metal history books. Although once viewed as a cult act but with a strong and dedicated global fan base, Pentagram has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity due in part to the 2011 documentary, Last Days Here, which follows the trials and tribulations of a troubled rock star, Pentagram’s lead singer Bobby Liebling. With a DVD release set for this fall on Peaceville’s label, the documentary has garnered international recognition on the film festival circuit and has won several awards, including “Best Music Documentary” at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. The band recently released their double DVD collection ‘All Your Sins’, featuring over 7 hours of live footage spanning a period of three decades.

Directed by Antonio Margheriti (YOR, HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE) and starring John Saxon (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET), APOCALYPSE is a nightmarish vision where two Vietnam vets – Saxon and infamous horror actor John Morghen - unleash horror upon the world via a virus that makes the infected want to consume human flesh. Scoring the film is a soundtrack as intense and crazed as the cannibals themselves, although this may not seem immediately apparent. The opening is a lovely sweeping melody with gentle piano and flute (what is it with cannibal movies and these melodies?) and sets a serene and calm stage for the apocalypse to latch onto. The apocalypse itself scores a nine on the funkometer, with militaristic drums and sinister strings being overtaken by wah-wah funk and guitar noodling in a prog-rock vein. It’s both melodic and dischordant, with harsh alternating synth notes combining with shimmering music box notes, and a love theme with a sax that wails more than your average teenager. If you must chow down on someone, make sure CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE is spinning on your turntable."

The southern soul pioneer famously backed the likes of Etta James, Jimmy Hughes, Wilson Pickett, Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, and many more, but his lone solo album, Pot Luck, finds Spooner in a rare role: front and center. Oldham moved west in the late 0s when the patronage of bands like The Stones and The Flying Burrito Brothers made southern soul the in-demand sound. He joined the house band at Hollywood's Producer's Workshop and was soon playing for The Lettermen and Liberace. While recording the latter, it was suggested that Oldham make his own album. "I don't really think I wanted it so much," Oldham says now. "I think it was shoved on me. We'd got all this stuff set up, and now what do we do?" Pot Luck is very much a record of two halves;
Side A is an amalgamation of rarities penned with the likes of Dan Penn and Freddy Weller, while the B-side is a conceptual, seven-song medley covering some of the biggest hits Oldham played on, including "Cry Like A Baby," "Respect," and gospel standard "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." The sessions were largely unplanned. "We just went in," says collaborator Emory Gordy. "That's the best way Spooner works." In 1972, the album was released and quickly sank. Before long, the Producer's Workshop disbanded, too. Oldham carried on regardless, performing with The Everly Brothers, Bobby Womack, Gene Clark, Neil Young and-well, you name it. With this deluxe reissue of his solo LP, it's time for Oldham to get his own dues. "I don't think anybody, anywhere, at any time, has ever heard it," he says. "I'm just happy someone wants to hear it now.

Tyler has composed scores for film, television and video games, including scores for the third, fourth, and fifth episodes of The Fast & The Furious. Brian Tyler is easily one of the busiest composers around today. Tyler won Composer of the Year at the 2013 Cue Awards and was nominated for a 2014 BAFTA Award. In 2010, Tyler was inducted into the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. As of May 2015 his films have grossed $9.5 billion worldwide. When discussing the creation of the score, Tyler explained: "The music uses modern recording techniques, vintage modular synthesizers, mashed-up beats, drums and tweaked remix elements along with classic film scoring traditions including full orchestra, piano, voice and classical guitar. I am so proud of the movie, and I dedicate the score to the memory of Paul Walker and all the joy he brought.
