Formed in Boston in the late 70s out of the ashes of the legendary DMZ, Lyres are one of the truly essential garage bands and the seven 45s contained in this box set clearly prove why. Featuring 16 tracks spanning from 1979 to 1991, they're loaded with sound, attitude and a way of making music not found around too often. Included is their never-released first acetate, recorded live and self-pressed only two weeks after the band’s first rehearsal. Their amazing debut 7" on Sounds Interesting Records is presented in facsimile artwork, as are a string of magnificent tracks the band recorded during the 1980s for Boston's Ace of Hearts Records, run by Rick Harte, who also produced the recordings. Among them, titles such as 'Buried Alive', 'Help You Ann', 'I Really Want You Right Now', 'She Pays The Rent', 'Not Looking Back' and other staples of the 1980s rock & roll scene that show the band (and its varying line-ups) at the top of their game. Koria Kitten Riot are a Finnish Helsinki based indie rock band. During the release of their first two albums, the moniker was mainly a solo output for the singer-songwriter Antti Reikko but on the last two albums Koria Kitten Riot has been a full-fledged band of five people; Antti Reikko (vocals / guitar), Lasse Toimi (bass guitar / vocals), Teemu Vänskä (keyboards / vocals), Olli Rahkonen (guitar) and Eino Anttila (drums). The band have toured their native country as well as Germany having also recorded their previous two albums mostly in Berlin. Their sound is a combination of indie rock, singer-songwriter Americana and psychedelia. Songs of Hope and Science was in the making for a long time. At the end of 2016, it's very obvious how strange and scary the world situation has become - but all the signs already seemed to be there a few years ago, as the first songs for the album were starting to take shape. “My ambition in all my creative pursuits is to help people lose themselves, whether that’s on a dance floor, in their headphones, or lying on the floor of a loft space.” A delicate collection of songs for losing yourself, a meditation on spiritual struggle, a window into the parallel reality of Justin Carter: The Leaves Fall is all of those things – and probably more. Centered on his intimate vocals, pointed with hints of Arthur Russell and John Martyn, the eight tracks are buttressed by warm acoustic guitars, vibraphones, and organs and flourished with modern production. They are familiar but distant, like ghosts living in the present. The Leaves Fall, set for a February 24th 2017 release date on Mister Saturday Night, was written on and off over the course of about five years, a secret to most. Carter is more familiar, alongside Eamon Harkin, as half of popular New York party and record label Mister Saturday Night. As the Mister thrived, his songwriting continued to tick along in the background, days and weeks stolen here and there to write and record in various locations – from remote studios in the Catskills to basements in Venice Beach. The haunting, contemplative "Know It All" is a curious first gaze into the album, not just showing a new side of Carter as an artist, but hinting at the layers still to be unraveled throughout the rest of the album. "Know It All" will be released as a 7" single November 18th on Mister Saturday Night. The album features Jason Lindner, pianist on Bowie's final masterpiece, Blackstar; cello from Archie Pelago's Greg Heffernan; and programming by LIES and Trilogy Tapes producer Marcos Cabral. It was mixed by Benjamin Tierney, who also worked his magic on Kamasi Washington's The Epic. Carter grew up in a country house in rural North Carolina, a place with a pecan tree and abandoned train tracks in the front yard. On long car rides from home to his dad’s work as a school teacher, his ears were filled with the prog of Yes, the vocals of Al Jarreau and the complexity of Christopher Parkening’s take on Bach. It was his father, who himself has moonlighted as a guitar player and songwriter for nearly 50 years, that taught Carter to sing and play in his early teens. The album finds its context in the world of Mister Saturday Night in a new event series created by Carter and Harkin called Planetarium, a long form event with live music sprinkled amongst hours of records. The debut album from the Funk- and Soulband from Wanne-Eickel, Germany! It´s groovy, it's funky, it's rough and still playful ... But most of all, it's danceable! Night Visions is a collection of stories which dance alive over an infectious blend of Afro-Latin rhythms and contemporary dancefloor beats. He has released 3 full-length albums featuring his trademark "Gumbo Funk" sound on Bastard Jazz Recordings, and can be heard on the soundtracks to multiple popular TV shows such as "Orange Is The New Black", "Entourage" and "CSI:NY" to name a few. In 2016, his song "Un Poquito Mas" featuring Chico Mann was featured in a major Honda ad campaign and passed a million plays on Spotify.
