Please note: This album has originally been released in a limited deluxe version on white vinyl and packaged in a gatefold cover in April 2017. That version sold out quickly. It’s not deleted at Indigo, but simply not available anymore. This new version is available in a standard cover, and on black vinyl. Comes with the same bonus CD as the deluxe version, but is slightly less expensive. Once again rather limited, so please order accordingly. The New Year haven’t made a record for nine years, but they’ve been busy. Matt and Bubba Kadane’s previous band Bedhead had their career feted with a comprehensive box set and the brothers joined with David Bazan and Will Johnson in the band Overseas and put out an album in 2013. Through it all, they kept working on another New Year album, polishing demos into full-fledged songs, refining and reworking lyrics, basically taking their time and to get it right. The “it” in this case being crystal-clear indie rock, built around twining guitars, steady rhythms and Matt Kadane’s near-whispered vocals. If you remember Bedhead, you’ll get it. If you were smart enough to follow the Kadanes to the New Year, you’ll get it even more. If you’ve never heard either band, well… it’s not too late to discover one of the best bands to ever pick up guitars and quietly build an impressive, monumentally intimate career out of a few chords, lots of space and an innate sense of what makes a song work Recorded off and on in between jobs, lives and responsibilities and at at a variety of locales, like Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio, the Echo Lab in Denton and at houses in Texas, New York and California, the fourth album by the New Year may have taken a long time to make, but it only takes one spin for it to sink deep into the listener’s heart and mind. Snow utilizes many of the same aspects that made Bedhead so great, like playing the space between notes, wrapping the guitars around each other like overgrown vines and parking the song’s tempos in the sweet spot between peacefully somnambulant and oddly uplifting. It also retains all the upgrades (keyboards, trickier arrangements and more diverse rhythms courtesy of drummer Chris Brokaw) that made the three New Year albums such an impressive body of work.

In the spring of '85, SILENT CIRCLE started their project, but the makers are largely unknown: Jojo Tyson, CeCe Behrens and Axel Breitung are the three musicians who have come together under the label. Mike Mareen has been working in the music business since the mid 70s, wrote and composed some important hits and cover versions. The Berliner collected his first musical experiences as drummers and singers in different bands. It was only with the music label "Night n Day", founded in 1982, that he wanted to help newcomers, that the breakthrough was successful. Collectors Premium. For several months, MIG Music has been re-releasing the albums of widely underrated artist Zaine Griff from New Zealand. Next in line is “Mood Swings” on June 9, 2017. The video track “Devil Or Angel” is from the previously released album “The Visitor” which has been produced by fellow countryman Eddie Rayner whose name might sound familiar from band line-ups such as Split Enz or Crowded House (he is the one on the right at the keyboards). The musician and artist Zaine Griff left his native country as early as the end of the 1970’s to dive deep into the pulsating scene in London and indeed, he met the right people. With the glam rock bands like Baby Face and Screemer, he had several singles. He was sideman of Johnny Wakelin (“In Zaire”, “Africa Man” among others) before he came to pluck the bass for Kevin Ayers and The Kinks (also on the album “Misfits”). A short while later, Zaine Griff ran into David Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti who recorded his solo debut “Ashes and Diamonds” in 1980. At this point, Griff already collaborated with the keyboarder and arranger Hans Zimmer who was then responsible for the production of his second album, “Figures” (1982). Soon after, Zimmer went to America to become one of the today’s most influential and best-known composers for film scores (ten Oscar nominations, twelve for the Golden Globe and another ten for the Grammy award). Besides, on “Figures” many colleagues from the new wave and new romantic era were involved like Kate Bush, Warren Cann of Ultravox or Yukihiro Takahashi of the Japanese Yellow Magic Orchestra. Both of the albums, “Ashes &
Diamonds” and “Figures”, will be included in the Collectors Premium edition impressing with their excellent selection of rich and in this form previously unreleased bonus material. Musicians like i.e. from The Manfred Mann’s Earth Band or Thin Lizzy, Midge Ure of Ultravox or Bill Nelson of Be-Bop Deluxe reflect the zeitgeist of the early 1980’s as well as Zaine Griff’s self-pinned biographical texts. The Collectors Premium ends the re-release cycle of Zaine Griff’s albums. If you read the diary-style memories of these years it is even more incomprehensible why Zaine did not have more success. If all goes to plan, Zaine Griff will be exhibiting in London, at The Water Rats, Kings Cross, in May 2018.

Advocated by giants of the genre, Hauschka and Nils Frahm, classically trained pianist, violinist, producer, and composer, Poppy Ackroyd turned heads in the neo-classical world with her previous works Escapement and Feathers, as well as her involvement in Hidden Orchestra (Tru Thoughts). Freshly signed to Bjork’s label One Little Indian Records, Ackroyd’s critically acclaimed back catalogue is reissued on CD and vinyl. Classically trained on violin and piano, Ackroyd fell in love with contemporary piano music and with the piano beyond the keys, discovering the world of sound that could be made from other parts of the instrument. Realising the violin had the same potential, she has spent the a few years composing delicate, intricate and beautifully atmospheric music by manipulating and multi-tracking sounds from these two instruments. Her debut album Escapement stays true to this idea. Every sound, with the exception of a few field recordings, is created using only either the piano or the violin. The seven tracks are a combination of piano melodies and chords - played both conventionally or created inside the piano using fingers, e-bows and plectrums - violin textures, melodies and pizzicato ri s and finally delicate beats composed of hits, plucks, taps and scrapes made using hands, drumsticks, beaters and small cymbals on either the frame, strings or dampers of the piano. There are often five or more different percussive lines working alongside each other. In order to compose in this way, Poppy had to learn how to record and produce the music herself, as working with someone else would have been far too time consuming. Having discovered and restored a beautiful but neglected grand piano, she bought a laptop, digital recorder and speakers. Everything from the piano is recorded in her home studio with just this one microphone.
