The founding member of the Slowcore Americana collective took a quick hand over the phone and contacted the owner of a bar In LA called The Love Song. Soon one agreed, and Spain from then on every Tuesday evening between May 2016 and March 2017 in the Love Song. "It's a part of the historic Regent Theater, built in 1924, the room oozes old school charm and classic martinis. It's like being in a movie noir movie! "Josh says about the bar. "One of the things we started doing on tour in Europe. It was fun for us. No two shows were alike. I took this idea and expanded it to our L.A. Residency, "said Josh. Over the course of the year, Spain (consisting of Josh Haden, guitarist Kenny Lyon, keyboardist / guitarist Shon Sullivan and drummer Danny Frankel) were invited by guests such as the Grammy nominated jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, Sun Ra drummer Craig Haynes, violinist and singer Petra Haden (Josh's sister), Best Coast guitarist Bobb Bruno, ex-Circle Jerks multi-instrumentalist Zander Schloss, the former Macy Gray saxophonist Matt DeMerritt and Lili Haydn on the violin. During Spain's past Europatour, the skilled jazz bassist began to show the shows with his portable live recorder. Back in L.A. he also tried to implement this for the Love Song shows and got support from music producer Nate Pottker. The result was so overwhelming that Spain released a couple of these recordings on their Bandcamp site: "I began posting these recordings to the Spain bandcamp page and our European record label." We want to put that on vinyl! ' ". "Nate and I went even further", Josh continues, "I'm going to be the best song ever. Some of our greatest moments with Bill Frisell, Petra Haden, Bobb Bruno and others are on this record. I did not want to put any effects on the tracks or try to make it sound like a studio album. Since the debut album, Disconnection, was released in 2015, and with the P3 Guld award nomination for Best Pop, international record contract the band has managed to play over 100 shows and sold-out tours. The 2nd of June Vita Bergen will release their second album Retriever. Completed in Los Angeles and produced by their front man William Hellström together with Martin Forslund, who also has worked with Swedish legend Håkan Hellström. April 14 is the release of the first single, Nixon, a song where The War on Drugs meets Madonna. Vita Bergen is comprised of six childhood friends from Gothenburg who started to play together in 2013. Front man William Hellström is studying medicine and leaves the mundane of textbooks to alternative reality of a trance while performing on stage. The resulting success has been a consequence and effect of the stage related concussions, and nails piecing his foot. ”It doesn’t matter if we play for four, or four thousand people, we will always play every show like it is the last thing we do. Shouldn’t music affect you? I will never be satisfied. That day we will break up. We are here because we need to be here!” Following the release of the debut album in the fall of 2015 there was extensive touring in Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Kosovo, which gave Vita Bergen a solid place on the European indie scene. In four years the band has taken themselves from a claustrophobic 8 person bus and illegal nightclubs to over 100 shows all around Europe. In contrast to the apartment where the first record was recorded, Retriever sessions was held in diverse and exclusive studios. Hostels with cigarette buds under the bed, have been exchanged for expensive hotel rooms, skyscrapers, offices in LA and overwhelming responses at sold out shows. All these influences have shaped the sound of the new album. The songs were written in collaboration by the best friend duo of Robert Jallinder and Willliam who at same time dropped out of university to form the band. “The theme of this record are much different from the first album This album in much more direct and touches on concrete subjects that are happening here and now, like you and me, relationships that are really important, when all the make-up has run off. At the same time the whole process after Disconnection we felt like we wanted to get it all back with this release. We wanted to sound less pissed off. We are really happy right now and we want to do pop music” says William Hellström. The rest of the band members include Hampus Bergh, Gustaf Gunér, Jakob Kullberg och Andreas Jallinder.
