Originally a record store specializing in reggae, Greensleeves Records was founded in London in 1977 as one of the most prestigious record companies in the independent music industry and music publishers for artists and producers of Jamaican music in Europe. For the 40th anniversary of the "Total Reggae" series, a representative selection of high-quality recordings of classics, hits and rarities was compiled in chronological order. The range ranges from the finest UK reggae of the founder years, Jamaican Roots, Dub, and the Deejays of the early Dancehall reggae with the heavyweight sound of the Roots Radics, about the end of the 70s to early 80s (CD1), about the pioneering development of the Digital reggae from 1985 with ever-growing genre boundaries and the most commercially successful phase of the label of the 90s and Nuller years, with the subgenres Hardcore Ragga, Dancehall / Bashment and Modern Roots (CD2).
