Заглавная композиция, решенная в стиле Hi-NRG, не уступает лучшим работам Cerrone, Space или Патрика Коули. Отдельно стоит упомянуть имидж группы: в составе Ganymed была одна обольстительная блондинка с очень сексуальным голосом, остальные музыканты выступали в масках инопланетян. К сожалению, выглядели они не так трогательно, как ЕТ у Спилберга, а больше походили на козлов из советских мультиков, вместо носа у каждого болтался средних размеров хобот, который габаритами и формой больше походил на... В любом случае, выделиться из массы других коллективов группе удалось и "членистоносый" коллектив любители диско до сих пор вспоминают с улыбкой. Издание Мирумир, кроме качественного оформления и мастеринга, комплектуется дополнительной вкладкой с редкими фотографиями.

Stockholm-based Wolfbrigade announce the news of their ninth full-length album, titled Run With The Hunted, set for release on April 28th through Southern Lord. Formed in 1995, initially as Wolfpack, after five years they ventured into the new millennium as Wolfbrigade. The band have released an impressive volume of LPs and smaller releases, and have toured widely over the years, becoming one of the premier acts of their genre. Their damning music surges with outcries against human socio-political injustices, yearning for transformation and freedom. Wolfbrigade's Run With The Hunted strikes with ten brutal new tracks of their trademark d-beat, hardcore-crust-punk fury, elevating both the harsh intensity and the melodic attributes of their music to new extremes of savageness. There's a concentrated sense of urgency across the record, and a sense of dystopia fuelling the scathing vocal wrath. Run With The Hunted was recorded in both Studio Fredman in Gothenburg (At the Gates, In Flames, Martyrdöd), by Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd, and in Sunlight Studio (Dismember, Entombed, Grave) in Stockholm, by Tomas Skogsberg. About the new album, Wolfbrigade declares, "We looked to explore our rawness, writing straight-up, in-your-face, primitive songs. On this record, we decided to push the melodic strains even further, but without losing either intensity or brutality. Lyrically we have been inspired by both classic and obscure dystopian literature, finding suitably horrible metaphors for the decline of western society. The search for freedom continues, but this time the path is pointed inwards, into ourselves.

Many NWOBHM bands were awesome, but didn’t make it far. Wolf (not to be mistaken with an awesome Swedish band that also happens to be called Wolf) is one of those bands who recorded awesome stuff, but never became well-known. Still, that should not prevent us from enjoying those lesser known bands and their albums. Edge of the World is one of such albums. Forgotten gem, like I said in the title? No doubt about it. This album has one similarity to Herman Frank’s Right in the Guts, which I’ve already had a pleasure of reviewing: it’s consistently great. There’s a lot of variety on this album: some songs are fast (Highway Rider, Red Lights), others are slower (A Soul for the Devil), while the title track starts off slow, then morphs into something more upbeat, but every track is worth your time. Whether it’s a riff or a solo, something the singer does or something completely else, each track contains something that draws your attention, so you cannot go wrong with this. Speaking of the singer, he’s one of the best singers I’ve had a pleasure to hear among NWOBHM singers. He has a great voice and he knows how to use it. Production is standard for that time: a bit raw, but that’s what gave many other albums from that time a lot of charm;
this album is not an exception. If this album were overpolished like, for instance, Def Leppard, it would be completely ruined. A few tracks do happen to stand out: Highway Rider, that also happened to be released as a single (albeit at the time when the band was called Black Axe);
Heaven Will Rock ‘n’ Roll, what happens to be arguably the catchiest track;
A Soul for the Devil, that has a prominent atmospheric element. But it would be wrong to ignore the rest of the album: Head Contact has one of the most convincing riffs I’ve heard. All in all, I failed to find any flaw to the album. I’ll keep it short: I sincerely recommend this album and, trust me, you WILL keep returning to it. Like I said, it can be rightfully considered a gem. Not only among NWOBHM albums, but among heavy metal albums in general, or even among music albums per se

I’m nearly 50. I don’t know what’s going on anymore, I’ll admit. The internet’s availability of all sources ever simultaneously has destroyed my understanding of cultural development as a logical progression. All music is time travel, forward and backward both at once, now. But three years go my friend Simon Oakes, of prog-psych conceptualists Suns Of The Tundra, directed me to a Youtube clip of The Physics House Band. Impossibly youthful looking, and sounding like vintage Seventies stadium-prog behemoth, a Yes or a Rush, but stripped of any errors of taste and judgment, fed amphetamines, made ashamed of their record collections, slapped in front of the whole school, immersed instead in post-rock procedure and practise, and made to apply their obvious talent and ability to a more worthwhile end than their forebears. Three years on here’s their second album, a super-dense sci-fi mindfuck of a thing, music scholarship charity case keyboards in combat with squally spacerock guitars, dub boom bass and multi-time-sig clatter;
a territory staked out over mushrooms at break-time, on the top floor of the multi-story car park, overlooking the ‘70s Bauhaus shopping centre concrete functional fountain square, but now gone all Escher in the aftermath, like a black and white architectural schematic drawing dipped in tie-dye. Mercury Fountain doesn’t stop, a twenty nine minute surge of tracks that it would be a crime to split apart, the kind of part work The Physics House Band’s progenitors aimed at but never quite produced, settling instead for gatefold sleeves that gave the illusion of structure and intent;
a fulfillment of the Red-era King Crimson manifesto, channeled by boy-conduits that needn’t have even have known the source documents, learning their lessons instead from hints woven into the post-punk works of Radiohead, Tortoise, The Mars Volta and 21st century sub-krautrock. Mercury Fountain loads you into a water canon and shoots you out through its intermingled opening tracks, the group finally allowing you a pause for breath at the half way point, during A Thousand Small Spaces;
and then you’re kicked out of the airlock back into the Negative Zone again in Obidant, the laws of physics in reverse, Newton’s apples flying upwards past your grasping fists, your hair on end, arching to follow them, until you’re finally abandoned into the techtonic drift of Mobius Strip II. It’s a two black Americano experience that makes me wish I still had pin-sharp hearing to lose. Another minute would be too much. (Stewart Lee)

Into the Long Night is the second album by The Sonic Dawn, one of the most remarkable bands to come out of the new psychedelic wave in Denmark. Peaceville Records are set to release a vinyl series of the entire early works of Greek black metal legends Rotting Christ, commencing with the 1993 genre classic, ‘Thy Mighty Contract’, which is set for release on April 21st, including an 8 page booklet with extensive thoughts and recollections from co-founder and mainman Sakis Tolis with Dayal Patterson, including rare images. Also due for release will be follow up album ‘Non Serviam’, the band’s debut EP, ‘Passage to Arcturo’. A compilation of Rotting Christ’s demos &
other early rarities will be released by the label throughout 2017.
