Distillator is a band that has been doing the rounds in niche heavy metal circles ever since the release of their debut ‘Revolutionary Cells’ (which was voted one of the top thrash metal albums of 2015 by Metal Wani). The band, consisting of Laurens H. (guitars and lead vocals), Frank R. (bass and backing vocals) and Marco P. (drums) went into studio to record their sophomore album ‘Summoning the Malicious’, an album that is to be released on May 1st via Empire records. The album starts with “Blinded By Chauvinism” which is your standard thrash song and very reminiscent of ‘80s Exodus, especially Laurens’ vocal delivery (R.IP. Paul Baloff). There are occasional spurts of fast double bass shred patterns, but for the better part Marco uses the standard thrash kick-snare drum beat throughout the song (an approach that is maintained throughout the entire album). “Blinded By Chauvinism” is followed by “Mechanized Existence” which has a haunting vibe and even though innovative, Frank could have done a bit more with the bass solo to add more depth to the song. “Estates Of The Realm” oscillates between thrash and groove with a lot of Slayer overtones. The title track has a very Criminally Insane meets Call of Ktulu opening before progressing into blistering break neck thrash. The pace slightly reduces in “Enter The Void”, but not enough to change the dynamic of the album, the lack of which becomes highly prominent at this juncture. The solos start getting very one-dimensional towards and in my opinion Laurens should start experimenting with his solos (something that came to my notice even while listening to their first album). Save for the double bass spurt in the middle of “Algorithmic Citizenship”, the album continues to follow the same tangent, up until “Stature of Liberty” which follows a palm muted chug structure with a lot of interesting guitar licks in the beginning and gallops. Heavily influenced by Slayer circa Seasons In the Abyss, “The King Of Kings” is the track that stood out to me from the album. More melodic than the other songs on the album, this track has, to my ears at least, a slight Iron maiden flavor to it. The album closes with “Megalomania” which is your standard thrash fest (very similar to the first track). Sadly this album does not hold a candle in comparison to their debut. The production is unpolished (to say the least) and the songs are too monotonous. The album does not give the listener any breathing space and one tends to get claustrophobic halfway through the album. The opening riff structure of “Megalomania” is highly derivative of the 2nd track on their debut album “Saturation Bombing”. There are instances where things start to get progressive with the most obvious example being the multiple time signature changes in “Estates Of The Realm”, but in comparison to the tightly arranged riff pool that was ‘Revolutionary Cells’ (the breakdown in “Shiver In Fear” still gives me chills) , this album is extremely lackluster. Dave Mustaine once said “You have all the time in the world to write your 1st album…the challenge is following it up with a kick ass sophomore effort”. Distillator made heads turn with ‘Revolutionary Cells’ but failed to live up to their gargantuan debut. Let us see what they have in store for their next album.

Cementing his reputation as the star toaster with the small but popular El Paso sound system, based in the Waltham Park area, Dennis Alcapone was one of the first deejays to rise to prominence following U Roy’s breakthrough in the late 1960s. Born Dennis Smith in the rural district of Culloden, he became immersed in sound system culture after settling in western Kingston. Once El Paso became big on the sound system circuit, dental technician- turned-producer Keith Hudson brought him into the studio for his debut recordings, which led to a debut album for Studio One and hit material for Duke Reid, some cut in concert with his deejay sparring partner, Lizzy. Alcapone’s longstanding links with Bunny Lee yielded the excellent Guns Don’t Argue album, first issued in 1972, on which the toaster raps with style over some of Lee’s all-time greatest rhythms, including Delroy Wilson’s Better Must Come, John Holt’s Left With A Broken Heart and Slim Smith’s rendition of the Temptations’ soul classic Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.

BLACK MIXED VINYL Forever is a 1993 album by the British shoegaze band Cranes. Forever continues the trend of the band's previous albums, revolving largely around Alison Shaw's distinctive vocals. The album contains elements of shoegaze, dream pop and gothic rock, and features the singles "Adrift" and "Jewel". The album starts with hypnotizing acoustic guitar chords on the first track "Everywhere". Songs like "Cloudless", "And Ever" and "Far Away" show the band taking an extremely minimalist approach to their songwriting with sometimes nothing more than a piano accompanying Allison's voice. The songs "Adrift" and "Clear" are heavy post-punk rockers and "Jewel" is one of the brightest and most colorful songs that Cranes have ever produced. "Jewel" ended up being an underground hit in the U.K. and U.S., though thanks to a somewhat transformed remix courtesy of longtime Cranes fan Robert Smith (Forever takes its name from a The Cure rarity of the same title). Forever turned out to be a favorite amongst fans and critics, it's a lost treasure of early 90s dream pop, delivering unique and mesmerizingly beautiful music. The hidden track "Shine Like A Star" is included on the LP. Pressed on gold with a swirl of black vinyl, the first 1.000 copies are individually numbered and strictly limited.

Wonderland Live is a kind of musical roadmovie that began in the late 1960s on the East Frisian island of Langeoog. The boarding school saw in the island cinema the 1969er cult movie Easy Rider and heard there among other things. For the first time the Robbie Robertson composition The Weight, a song that moved him deeply and never let go. 48 years later is a congenial adaptation of this famous title by The Band on the double CD, just after the opener, the title-giving Woodstock anthem Joni Mitchells. The Red Devils, Willie Dixon-Howlin, Little Red Rooster, Cissy Strut, a signature song from the The Red Devil Funk-pioneers The Meters, Sailin 'Shoes by Little Feat, or Bob Dylan's century song The Times They Are A-Changin. In addition to some of his own songs from his last studio album Lights Out In Wonderland, the Toast To Freedom, compiled by Carl Carlton and Larry Campbell in 2011, was also included in the Amnesty International's 50th anniversary. Carl Carlton does not have to be imagined, he is Germany's most famous guitarist, rock musician, producer, singer / songwriter and Sidekick. The process of this record started very exciting: Despite the fact that predecessor "Tomorrow Come Today" wasn't the expected commercial break through there seemed to be interest and enthusiasm from Wind Up Records - a semi major label that Boysetsfire were signed to at the time. The band made lists of producers they would like to work with and studio time was booked. And than the whole thing fell apart. A sad and depressing truth unfolded: "Complete creative control" means absolutly NOTHING if the record company is not giving you the green light to enter a studio and cover the massive costs of producing a full length album. The label just didn't hear "the hit" which is still absolutly puzzling given the fact that they had (now) fan favorites like "Empire" or "Requiem" presented to them. "The misery index: notes from the plague years" will be available on vinyl through the bands very own End Hits Records for the very first time.

2LP - Double Heavyweight Vinyl With Download Code. With Best Troubador, Bonnie 'Prince Billy pays homage to a long-time and forever hero, the late Merle Haggard. A singer who, some 25 years previously, first performed in public by playing a Merle Haggard song, Bonny has often cited Merle's work in performance, on records and in conversation with anyone who was around, even talking to Merle himself for Filter magazine in 2009. Merle's body of work was considered by Bonny for a record such as this for some time, but his passing in April of 2016 almost put a stop to it. The goal was to participate in the handing forward of the songs of a living legend, as Merle had done so many times in his own career. With Merle gone, some of the impetus of the project was in peril. A plan to make the album in Nashville studios was abandoned. The songs still called to be played again, however - and so sessions were endeavored at home, capturing feeling, memory and new expression in familiar confines with the full-hearted playing and singing of the Bonafide United Musicians: Van Campbell, Nuala Kennedy, Danny Kiley, Drew Miller, Cheyenne Mize and Chris Rodahoffer, with special guests Mary Feiock, Emmett Kelly, A.J. Roach and Matt Sweeney. The songs sung on Best Troubador are pulled from all over - from Haggard's 3rd album in 1967 though to his 47th in 2011 - but this is no simple hits compilation. Capable only of occupying a shared space between himself and Merle Haggard, Bonny chose personal favorites, singing the songs he wanted to sing, to find Merle and himself together in the music. Only two of Hag's thirty-eight (!) country number ones are included, and only two others that charted at all. Seven of the sixteen songs are from his later period, after his long run at the top of the country charts had ended, but before encroaching mortality could finally cease the singular and indefatigable creativity of Merle Haggard. Best Troubador flips through his song book, landing on pages unmoored from their time and located anew. Moving from 1978 to 1969 to 2003 to 1981 allows the album to circle Haggard's music in a simulation of thought and memory, slipping around from spot to spot as if they were discrete impressions, unknown but knowable yet. Dedicated to new life and old, Best Troubadour is wistful and bittersweet and no lament at all but a tribute instead, for the triumph of a life spent in unending pursuit of the goal: new and expressive music, as our inspirations and heroes once sang it.

[ENG] Remastered and pressed on 180g vinyl this special edition features a bonus WHITE vinyl 7inch single featuring the 7inch versions of 'Don't Talk To Me About Love' and 'Love to Stay'. After the success of the bands previous two albums 'Happy Birthday' and 'Pinky Blue', Bite saw a change in musical direction. Gone was the earlier post punk sound and now the songs were becoming far more polished with a pure pop pedigree. To that end Mike Chapman and Tony Visconti were brought in to produce the album. Mike Chapman had produced Blondie's 'Parallel Lines' album and Tony Visconti had been working with David Bowie, so the duo's involvement was seem by many as a move to bring the band to the forefront of the post punk 80's pop scene. The band also underwent some personnel changes with Stephen Lironi joining the band as drummer. The album spawned one of the bands biggest hits in 'Don't Talk To Me About Love' which reached No7 in the UK chart. But subsequent singles 'Love To Stay' and 'Change Of Heart' failed to make an impact and a decline in success followed with each release. Following on from the tour to support the albums release the band sadly disbanded. The album still contains many highlights and although mired as the bands unfitting final release it is still heralded by many fans as a great pop album. Clare Grogan has appeared in numerous TV and films roles, most famously 'Gregory's Girl and the cult TV Series 'Red Dwarf' in a role she created for herself as Kristine Kochanski.
