Northern Ireland's GIRLS NAMES return with their third full-length album, "Arms Around a Vision". For fans of: The Horrors, These New Puritans, The Cure, Savages, Deerhunter, Toy, Ice Age, Fire Engines, Wire. Girls Names formed in Belfast, but they've long considered themselves a European band. Their last album, "The New Life", was an unexpected worldwide underground hit in early 2013, culminating in nominations for both the Northern Irish and Irish Music Prizes. Emboldened by the reception to that record, they returned with an 11-minute single. Typically, it does not feature on their new album. Girls Names like to do things a little differently. On "Arms Around a Vision", they're more widescreen than ever but also more direct and aggressive. The bass, drums and guitars are still there, but so are saxophones, organs, detuned broken guitars and pianos, and even sheets of metal assaulted with hammers. Conceptually, Arms Around a Vision acts as a love letter to European elegance - Italian futurism, Russian constructivism, Germany's Zero Group and both Neubauten and Bowie's Berlin. Love and pain, romance and fucking. It's all in there somewhere. An album that treads a course between Eno-era Roxy sleaze, Birthday Party dissonance and M.E.S' three R's: repetition, repetition, repetition. While the songs aren't narrative-driven as such - the band still generally favour abstraction and ambiguity - there is a consistent underlying message: "We've got nothing. We've never had anything. And we don't expect to. The only person I ever wanted to impress was myself. I've never got anywhere close to succeeding in doing that until this album."

If it ain't broke, don't fix it' says the old adage. And when you remember that those two have been churning out rock n'roll, D-beat, thrash and a solid dose of MOTÖRHEAD for at least two decades with first RASERA, then HATHOR and now since 2009 GERM BOMB, the kind of deflagration delivered by §nder a Fading Sun' should come as no surprise. After all, they've taken their name from a DEAD KENNEDYS song haven't they? Although they hail from Gothenburg, Sweden GERM BOMB has little to do with the saccharine-loaded sound synonymous with the country second biggest city. Proud of their 80's hardcore roots and still determined to point the finger towards the many injustices and issues our nowadays society suffers from, they're still as angry as ever. Even if compared to its two predecessors this album leans a bit more towards a slower and heavier, when it rocks, it still rocks hard and fast as GERM BOMB is once again joining the punk parade led by TOXIC HOLOCAUST, CHILDREN OF TECHNOLOGY and BASTARDATOR where crossover, punk and metal unite. Yet, produced by BOMBS OF HADES collaborator Per Stålberg and showcasing a darker and more subtle direction as underlined by the superb artwork courtesy of Lenore Ani, §nder A Fading Sun' still kind of feels like the beginning of a new chapter for the band and DOOMENTIA is proud of releasing its glorious LP version, with the CD being handled by Area Death Productions China) and the tape by Hellforced Records (Malaysia).

Debut album from 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and visual artist Elliot Moss. Hailing from upstate New York, Moss recorded the record himself as well as the bulk of the mixing and production. ‘Highspeeds’ has been acclaimed by the likes of Fader, Stereogum and Spin, and Moss has garnered comparisons to James Blake, Bon Iver and Chet Faker. From Ashes Comes the Day is the result of the alliance between Montréal's Eric Craven (Drophead) and Austin's Jonathan Slade (Silent Land Time Machine). For more than a decade Craven has been a prominent member of Montréal's experimental music community, widely known as the drummer in HRSTA and Hangedup (Constellation Records). His recent solo work as Drophead finds Craven buried in layers of drums and homemade percussion as well as guitar, field recordings, and a vast array of other instruments. Now on Drophead's vinyl debut Craven's outsider take on guitar and keyboard assimilates the tenor of Austin's foremost experimental violist/vocalist and co-founder of HOLODECK records, Jonathan Slade. Slade is best known for his two albums as electro-acoustic solo-ensemble Silent Land Time Machine and his work in the bands Lumens and AMASAGANA. Together, Craven and Slade push each other into expansive new territory, fully embracing a darker yet broader sphere of expression and emotive depth. The dialogue of tidal chaos and isolation that wax and wane across both hemispheres of From Ashes Comes the Day makes this a highly unique release for both artists. Simply divided into two halves entitled "I" and "II", From Ashes Comes the Day is a single continuous piece comprised of a series of interweaving sonic vignettes that swell and decay into and out of one another.

DJ Spinn is one of the founders of Chicago Teklife crew, who alongside the late DJ Rashad is credited with bringing the culture of footwork to from the streets to the world. Spinn has appeared on lots of tracks with DJ Rashad, but this is his debut EP debut for Hyperdub, and the sound of a producer at the top of his game. From the opener ,Throw It Back", DJ Spinn effortlessly consolidate energies from all over into footwork"s 160bpm grid, a rough, creeping acid line rubbing against chopped and screwed rap, over a system-destroying hip hop beat, before a huge drop heralds in double-time kicks. ,The Future Is Now" is an intense minimal track with a gnarly repetitive melody that bleeps somewhere between acid and 8-bit dancehall, before the drums roll into double pace and a vortex of synths build up into a frantic double-speed, with claps keeping pace at half time. ,Off That Loud" is a tribute to weed, rapped lyrics layered and chopped into stuttering patterns against 160bpm drums over a bed of the most gentle rhodes chords. The final track features the talented Detroit MC Danny Brown and is co-produced by the late DJ Rashad. Rashad, Spinn and Danny hit it off while on tour in the US and Danny recorded this rap for them, celebrating footwork Chicago roots. Chopping between jungle breaks and bass, a high speed jazz guitar and Danny chorus over footwork kicks and bass, it a chant-a-long anthem for the scene and the finale to an exciting debut.

From the prolific cultural epicenter of Montréal, Marie Davidson has emerged as one of the foremost electronic artists in contemporary underground pop today. As a long-time member of Les Momies de Palerme, Hotel Monochrome, DKMD, and Essaie Pas, Marie has continued to hone her many talents in Montréal's fervent experimental communities for much of her adult life. In 2012 Marie began to unveil compositions under her own name, revealing a solo artist who possessed the confident vulnerability required to write, produce, and perform unaccompanied. Davidson's intimate solo work is embodied through a host of synthesizers and drum machines that coalesce in synchronized harmony, punctuated by Marie's hypnotic vocal delivery, sung and spoken in both French and English. Davidson's third album "Un Autre Voyage" demonstrates her heightened compositional skill behind a sequencer as well as her singular ability to anesthetize the senses through the documentation of her own serial pattern of experiential growth. "Un Autre Voyage" is a collection of songs based solely on true events, providing the listener with an unfiltered primary account of Marie's intrapersonal experiences. Marie embraces slower experimental composition on pieces like "Kidnap You in the Desert", "Insomnie", and "Perséphone", while songs like "Excès de Vitesse" and "Balade aux USA" are decidedly upbeat and indicate a broadening complexity in Marie's aesthetic domain. Vocal, guitar, and production contributions from husband and Essaie Pas bandmate Pierre Guerineau establish a communicative interface that allows for the full articulation and realization of Davidson's inner-dialogues.

The Black Tambourines make music grounded in the ethos of D.I.Y production and scuzzy, distorted garage-rock, but with ragged grooves and a sun-kissed haze. The band’s aptly named third album, “III”, is a luminescent and energized admixture of Atlantic cultures. The album’s hyper-contemporary dialogue journeys between the sounds and rhythms of Brazil and Africa, and between the band’s ten musicians and their distinctive musical identities. Their collective influences include jazz, funk and Afro-Brazilian music, and stretch further afield into dub and reggae, electronics, cumbia and carimbó, ethio-jazz and samba. Bixiga 70’s “III” is a breathtaking rhythmic storm where inspired solos, harmony and dynamics, beats and improvisation all mesh together in vital and unpredictable ways. Spanning between a joyous danceability, a sharp sense of humor and committed political reflections, the life-blood of this ten-piece unit is instrumental music, but it is an instrumental music that speaks profoundly. Self-produced by the band in their own studio in Sao Paulo (and mixed by Victor Rice) all the compositions on “III” are written and arranged by the entire Bixiga 70 collective. There are no liner note details: the process of creation is decentralized and acknowledges the importance of each musician in the room. The album was recorded live in the studio to further assure the depth of this collaborative spirit and to accentuate the intensity of the band’s sonic experiments. Following the global attention garnered by their previous album 2014’s “Ocupai” (Mais um Discos), Bixiga 70 headed out into the world. Their musical travels to Europe, the USA and Morocco, as well as the many varied regions of Brazil (including the streets of Bixiga) have all left a deep mark on the sounds and visions of the new album Throughout the nine tracks found on “III”, styles merge and original syncretisms come to life. The album shape shifts contemporary afro-funk, Moroccan cumbia, spiritual jazz, adapted afro-brazilian chants, Cuban blaxploitation, sounds from São Paulo’s Black Rio movement, Arabian dub, Malinké drumming, Angolan guitar music and traditional bamboo fife bands. There is no doubt that Bixiga 70 is one of the guiding voices of Brazil’s contemporary instrumental music scene and their new album “III” clearly demonstrates why. They are a band that deftly searches for untracked and thrilling musical spaces to occupy. And most importantly, they are a band that succeeds in finding them.
