Dozer. Better make this one a double because there's plenty to celebrate this time. First and foremost it's Dozer's anniversary. Ten years of touring in shitty bars. Ten years of playing to the most devoted of rock worshipers. Ten years of the most melodic, bone crushing, super heavy rock and roll Europe has ever seen. And if a band making it to ten years in relative obscurity, known only to the hippest and those that just happened to be in the right dive bar at the right time, wasn't reason enough for a celebration then we've got another one. Dozer are ready to offer the world another slab of what real passionate music can be all about;
their 4th full length album, "Through the Eyes of Heathens." As hundreds of other young Swedish bands, Dozer was the obvious answer to the boredom of a small town youth, playing wherever and supporting whatever band that came to visit their hometown. They emerged in 1998 with their debut 7" single which was awarded "Single of the week" in KERRANG! magazine. Dozer quickly progressed beyond their early influences and created a style of their own incorporating modern elements into their classic heavy rock sound. Asound that always has been intensely heavy but yet also strongly song and melody driven by the distinctive vocals ofsinger Fredrik Nordin. Dozer has carefully culivated a following like none other and a reputation second to none due mostly assuredly to their constant touring and explosive live shows. With releases on both Meteor City and Man's Ruin as well as their own Molton Universe label, these simple Swede's have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of Stoner rock, often placed upon the same pedistle as the fathers of the movement Kyuss and Monster Magnet. With the release of "Through the Eyes of Heathens" comes a new chapter in the life of Dozer. Recorded in Seawolf Studios, which is situated in an old Russian army fortress on the island Suomenlinna in the inlet of the harbor of Helsinki, Finland. The fortress'5 ft. thick walls were literally vibrating with the sheer might of the music. the main project was "Backwards", which was started in 1992, updated considerably between 1993 and 1995, and transferred in 1996 to New Orleans, where it was finished in the magic of the Nothing studios of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). The album saw the fruition of Jhonn Balance's recent vocal coaching, producing haunting, passionate vocals, while reaching new heights. 23 years after its initiation, these tracks have been beautifully preserved by Danny Hyde and are finally available in highest quality audio. Differing substantially from the later, remixed incarnation, "The New Backwards" (2008), "Backwards" contains the original versions of Coil's much-loved tracks;
'A Cold Cell' and 'Fire Of The Mind', which have appeared on various compilations over the years, and are now presented as originally intended.

Every sneering melody and every piece of artwork is loaded with meaning, designed to be pored over. Sungod approach their work with a purposeful disregard for chronological and geographic borders alike, devoid of any fixed time or point of origin. Touching on the modern and the classic, Sungod five expansive tracks offer a series of portals into the past while maintaining a contemporary progressive sound. With a new line-up of auxiliary musicians contributing to the exploration of a full-spectrum of sonic planes, Sungod covers enough ground to hold a mirror up to infinity and find the inner frontiers of the self in its reflection. The Austin duo's eponymous LP perpetuates the timeless elements of many experimental musics while further refining a craft that is wholly their own. The core of Sungod is made up of Michael Sharp and Braden Balentine, who record out of their shared home studio with a rotating cast of like minded musicians from Austin's fertile underground music scene. While incorporating an ever-broadening inventory of influences, the band's methodical arrangements and layers of meditative repetition hearken back to 70's Krautrock, which serves as a solid foundation for further ventures into both burgeoning and antiquated realms. Polyrhythmic drums and arpeggiated synthesizers propel much of Sungod procession forward, sitting in total harmony with acoustically-oriented pieces that concisely imbue a compensatory calm to the album's potent, high velocity moments.

Grinding his way up the ranks of the American underground electronic scene, Los Angeles native and Austin resident José Cota makes his long awaited solo debut as SSLEEPERHOLD. Cota is best known for his work as a member of the now defunct Medio Mutante, whose 2008 12" Inestable (released on Minimal Wave sub label Cititrax), gave the band a well deserved cult following. Medio's contemporary take on classic minimal synth music through the use of analog hardware became a powerful and bold statement amidst the modern resurgence of electronic music. Now as a solo artist, SSLEEPERHOLD introduces a fresh and heavy approach to synth based composition. Ruleth proclaims its unique voice through immense bass lines and brutal percussion punctuated by invasions of tape manipulation and the sounds of buckling steel. After the dust had settled from the dissipation of Medio Mutante, Cota was left to collect himself artistically. SSLEEPERHOLD is the result of a distinct effort to establish a new plateau of inward focus and expression. Drawing on a variety of genres, Ruleth makes an instant connection to dark wave, industrial, and 80's horror scores, but the contemporary forces at work make it difficult to describe the album in such "vintage" terms. Slow and aggressive, Ruleth finds Cota exploring half-time swing rhythms, heavy metal breakdowns, and growling oscillators that creep ever so slightly in and out of tune. Filters gradually pry open to mimic guitar riffs chugging along in drop-D syncopation with the bass lines, while double-pedal kick drums deliver skull pounding accents over complex synth sequences. Busy "dirty south" style high-hat phrasing along with cassette collage and television-static also make up a significant part of the distinct SSLEEPERHOLD lexicon. This is undoubtedly electronic dance music, but one could just as easily be tempted to head bang or free-style.
