Finally a new sign of life from Italy's grandmasters of (Swedish style) old school Death Metal. It's been quite a while since the last effort of this Varese / Milano based outfit, the 2006 killer release "Rising From The Hidden Spheres", saw its light of day. The squad always gave (and still give) a fuck what current trend was going on and peristently followed their own left hand path. That's the way it should be. The band, which consists now only of founding members Max and Belfagor, didn't release something new during the last five years except some tape re-releases of an old promo and other compiled tracks from their previous recordings. "The Final Massacre" is also not completely filled with new HORRID material. The disc features the four tunes of their long sold out first mini album "Blasphemous Creatures" which is in my opionion an absolute classic and one of the best Metal of Death releases ever emerged from the Italian underground. But that's not all as two more old tracks can be found on the tracklist of the album as well: 'Winds Of Procreation' and 'Kissing The Rotten Cross' find their well deserved glory again and it's superfluous to mention that the original 7" EP from 1996 is a well sought after collectors item nowadays. But finally there are four brand new assaults on this ten tracker. What shall I tell you? The band still reigns supreme and unleashes total crushing old school Death Metal of highest quality. These Italian maniacs haven't lost their energy and passion from their earlier days and deliver abolute killer stuff which can turn out to become classics for every deathbanger. You can feel that this horde lives and feels the music and no trendy band could create such an feeling and atmosphere. Total dedicated to the sound we all worship and enjoy. But before I totally go insane I would like to advice you to get immediately hold of a copy of "The Final Massacre". Path of the Goat” is the title of the debut album from Poland, Białystok-based death metal addicts The Dead Goats (featuring members of grindcore act Neuropathia). The record, featuring 10 tracks of oldschool death metal in the vein of Entombed, Dismember and Repulsion, will be released on July 6th via Instant Classic label. “The idea of playing this kind of music came a couple of years ago, during Neuropathia’s European tour”, told ZT the band’s drummer Radek. “The rest is history, fuelled by loads of alcohol and cigarettes. We have different musical tastes but we all sure share love for Swedish death metal. There are also some punk and grind influences on the record. It’s all about booze and Boss HM-2 guitar pedal set to eleven. The title is our homage to the Swedish scene, especially to Entombed, the band that continues to ispire all of us. We sing of horror and gore stories, so it seems like a perfect stuff to shout out at our gigs! “Path of the Goat” was composed and recorded without any obstacles. It took us longer to write the lyrics and figure out how to perform those tracks live. We didn’t want to recycle old Neuropathia songs, so the riffs are fresh. Contrary to what some people may think, The Dead Goats is a fulltime band. There’s no need for side projects since we have so much fun playing this music. At times it can be hard to tell whether this is a metal album with crust influences or vice versa. The title track, with it's pronounced d-beat, seems to argue in favor of a metallic version of punk, but elsewhere "Dethroned by Shadows" and "The God Eaters" represent pretty straightforward death metal, albeit with a modern hardcore production (think in terms of the recent Southern Lord h/c sound). The band do a pretty good job of paying equal lip service to both crust and vintage death. Stefan Petterson's gruff, punk-influenced vocals ably tie the songs together while Calle Andersson's beats help diversify and differentiate the material. These guys aren't willing to settle for "promise" or "potential", they're here to rip your fucking head off right out of the gate. Record Label: Selfmadegod Style: Death Metal
