Deathfix formed in 2009 after Brendan Canty (Fugazi) and Rich Morel (Morel, Blowoff) met while touring in Bob Mould's band. Having discovered a shared affinity for the sounds of 1972 - particularly glam and progressive rock - they started getting together to work on music at Canty's warehouse studio space. Two years later, hoping to graduate the band from its studio-shut-in phase to its live ensemble phase, they recruited Devin Ocampo (Faraquet, Medications) and Mark Cisneros (Medications) to hold down the rhythm section. Both talented multi-instrumentalists and producers in their own right, Cisneros and Ocampo quickly started contributing their own riffs and arrangement ideas. The band's self-titled debut includes seven songs that were recorded throughout 2012 at Canty's studio. During that time, Morel and Canty's demos were torn up and expanded through extensive improv sessions alongside Ocampo and Cisneros. Tracks that started out small and introspective were blown up to a size and volume more befitting of the group's cavernous practice space. The tone is dark, but the lyrics - which cover themes covers themes like sickness, breakups, corruption, drugs, fame, and losing ones mind - shouldn't be read as straight biography. Avenue X was formed in New York in October of 2011, from an encounter between two singular characters: the eighteen-year-old NY actress, singer, musician, Dionne Lennon and the well-known acrobatic skydiver, Marzio Dal Monte, aka "Skypunker". Dionne Lennon (Dal Monte, since her marriage), is also well-known for her role in numerous films and TV series', including The Sopranos, and Summer of Sam and is the daughter of Victor Colicchio, screenwriter (Spike Lee's Summer Of Sam) and actor (Goodfellas, Inside Man, Crocodile Dundee, etc). The Lennon / Dal Monte couple-who met in the Village-soon caught the attention of Ramones' drummer, Marky Ramone, who offered to play drums on their mini-CD debut. The band then soon recorded their debut album-pre-produced in Manhattan-at Milan's Massive Arts Studios with sound technician, Jack Garufi. Featuring 12 original tracks that range from grunge to blues, to punk, to psychobilly, the CD also includes an interesting duet with Steve Sylvester (historic frontman of Death SS) in "The Devil's Wall". Avenue X is a diverse album that has launched the young and talented NY chanteuse into the Olympus of alternative rock, and given rise to more than one comparison with Courtney Love along the way.
