About ten years go David Eugene Edwards‘ new band Wovenhand showed it’s first sign of life with their self-titled debut album. His main band 16 Horsepower was still active at that time. Wovenhand so far released six albums that made the old fans happy, won new ones and progressed tremendously as a band. „The Laughing Stalk“ represents the most radical change in the history of the band froming a new line-up. „Intense“ was a word commonly used when describing the sound of the band. Especially on stage the last line-up was an incredible force, but the current band managed to transport this „heavyness“ into the studio while losing nothing of it’s love for detail or delicate arrangements. That was accomplished by producer Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten, Bad Seeds) who created an intoxicating mix of guitars and other stringed instruments in the final mix. David Eugene and Alexander Hacke became friends recently when both were recruited as guitarists in the reunion of australian indie legends Crime & The City Solution. Two years have passed since the release of „The Threshingfloor“. In The meantime nine new songs for „The Laughing Stalk“ were recorded. Tunes that despite their power and heavyness have lost nothing of it’s magic and hypnotics. Those who thought there could be no progression after „Threshingfloor“ will be convinced otherwise.
