Ananda Shankar is the debut album by the Indian musician, the son of dancer and choreographer Uday Shankar and the nephew of Indian classical musician Ravi Shankar. It was released in 1970 and was among the first works in the rock genre by an Indian musician. Consisting mainly of instrumental recordings featuring sitar and Moog synthesizer, it includes a cover version of the Rolling Stones' 1968 hit song "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and a thirteen-minute Indian-style piece titled "Sagar (The Ocean)". In the decades since the LP's release, "Jumpin' Jack Flash" became a popular club hit, while the album has been recognised for its influence on world music fusion, particularly the East-West styles developed in the UK. It is one of the albums featured in Robert Dimery's book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In 2005, his song "Raghupati" was used in the game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories soundtrack.

An Allmusic review refers to Hold On, I'm Comin' as epitomizing "Memphis soul in all its unpretentious, down-home glory". Sam &
Dave are one of the best soul singers and this album is to back up this statement. Plus, it's got Booker T. and the MG's working as the backup band. If you're into 60's soul, you can't go wrong with this album!

Struttin' is the third studio album by the funk group The Meters, originally released in 1970. The first single was the song "Chicken Strut". It reached #11 on the U.S. R&B Singles chart. It may not appear to be drastically different than its predecessors, at least not on the surface. After all, the title of the lead single "Chicken Strut" intentionally recalls their previous biggest "Cissy Strut," and it has the same basic Meters groove. And if the essential sound remains unchanged, that's because that organic, earthy funk is The Meters' signature. Other groups have tried to replicate it, but nobody ever played it better. It was on this album The Meters introduced vocals to their style as well, with Art Neville's leads on covers of Ty Hunter's soulful uptown shuffle "Darling, Darling, Darling," Jimmy Webb's groovy ballad "Wichita Lineman," and Lee Dorsey's "Ride Your Pony" (the Meters provided support on the original recording).

It was released in 1971, with the opening song "Diana" being released as a single. The album was notable for its unique blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, and elements of paganism and the macabre. The overall thematic tone of the album is of vulnerable innocence facing abusive power, the songs dealing with violence ("Drip Drip"), rape ("Diana", "Song to Comus"), and insulin shock therapy ("The Prisoner"). These themes contrast starkly with the acoustic sound of the record, featuring acoustic guitar, violin, flute, and lyrical, almost Arcadian, female harmonies. References to Comus by other bands and artists include Opeth, citing its lyrics in album and song titles and tattoos. Experimental outfit Current 93 also covered "Diana" as the opening song on their 1997 LP Horsey. The cover artwork was drawn in ball point pen by Roger Wootton, lead singer and songwriter of the band. The centrefold artwork was painted by guitarist Glenn Goring. Reviews were favourable, such as the NME praised the album's "highly unusual but fascinating sound" and Time Out said "the overall effect is unique".

Still, Safe As Milk is a very strong and heavily blues-influenced work but it also hints on many of the features that would later become the trademarks of Captain Beefheart. A nice fact is that not only did a 20-year old Ry Cooder play bass &
guitar on "Abba Zaba" and "Grown So Ugly", he also arranged the latter as well as "Sure 'Nuff 'N Yes I Do". Also, Cooder's role in the recording process was 'to translate the Captain's wilder notions to the rest of the band and generally acts as musical director'. With him as a supervisor, the sessions proceeded more or less smoothly and Safe As Milk was recorded within a month. Fun fact;
the album appears in the 2000 film High Fidelity as an album that the character Barry, played by Jack Black, continually refuses to sell to a customer, whom he deems unsuitable to own it. The 7 bonus tracks are taken from the sessions for the unreleased 'Brown Wrapper' follow-up album. These tracks had been recorded around November 1967, two months after the release of Safe as Milk's and were from the same sessions that yielded the songs on Mirror Man Sessions [MOVLP260]. The 50th Anniversary edition of Safe As Milk is pressed on Milky White vinyl. Only 1.500 individually numbered copies are available.

The band's name means "devil's children or bad policemen". They originally played soul, but the music they heard during a trip to Morocco lead to a change in their style to what has been described as a blend of funk, rock, jazz and African music. Released in 1970 the band's only album, the extraordinary Afreaka!, demonstrates their excellence in playing psychedelic soul, dub-heavy funk, progressive rock, Afro-jazz and black acid rock. Demon Fuzz these days are amongst the most bootlegged and sampled bands from the early 70s British underground. This re-release, which includes the stunning and rare EP that at the time was released along with the album, tells the band's full story for the first time ever. All tracks were credited to Ray Rhoden and W. Raphael Joseph, except for the second track, which was credited to W. Mitchel and Paddy Corea. Corea was also credited with "all arrangements". It was a Billboard "4-STAR" selection in June 1971

With Quincy at the helm as producer, the duo quickly broke wide open with its debut album. The Brothers Johnson's second album Right on Time consists of some of the best proto-typical funk-soul grooves from the late 70s. The album is again produced by Quincy Jones and his contributions ensure the high quality of the instrumental arrangements and general glossiness of the audio production as in their debut album. Several of the tracks are as good as anything Michael Jackson or Earth Wind and Fire would've produced around this time, particularly "Runnin' For Your Lovin'", "Strawberry Letter 23" and "Never Leave You Lonely". There are also two fantastic instrumentals, "Q" and "Brother Man" that are both irrepressibly funky, with Louis Johnson's tight bass providing the solid rhythmic foundation he is famous for. Fusion fans will be familiar with several of the backing musicians: Harvey Mason, Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour to name a few. The single "Strawberry Letter 23" gained a #5 spot in the US billboard charts and #1 on the US R&B billboard. The album received platinum.

The album was recorded in Abbey Road Studios and became an overnight success. They produced a major international hit with "Daydream". The track reached the number one spot in more than 20 countries and the single sold more than 2 million copies. Artists like Claude François, Beta Band, and I Monster created their own hit versions of the song, and even Portishead sampled "Daydream" in their single "Glorybox". A modern version of the hit with Jill Scott and Lupe Fiasco is used in the soundtrack of the popular television series "Mr. Robot".
