When Bandcamp announced that they will be holding a special fundraiser on June 19th „that is specifically focused on racial justice, equality, and that they will donate their „share of revenues that day to the NAACP Legal Defence Fund“, we thought to put out a special sampler that contributes to that cause. All profits of the sales of „Music for the NAACP“ will go exactly there. Due to the lack of time, it might seemed knocked together, but old and new friends, from near and far alike did their best, to set it up. So, special thanks to everyone involved: especially to Lopazz at Mixmastering, Heidelberg, Rand Muzik Leipzig and the SST cutting house in Frankfurt, who did their part to also make this available on a 2x12“ compilation (same destination for its profits). When I first heard the music that the collaborative efforts of Adda Kaleh and Diego Herrera alias Suzanne Kraft brought to life, I was immediately smitten by it. During a car ride through Los Angeles soundtracked by new age music and Australian melancholics The Reels, „Breaking“ by AKSK fit in perfectly. The voice of Adda and the harmonies and groove of the music made it seem like a part of film score that could have worked in a John Hughes movie as well as in a Michael Mann one. The ear of the beholder. Still, I cannot really remember, if it formed the concept for „Musik for Autobahns“ or just fit in perfectly (again!). It made it on that compilation for Rush Hour anyway and up until Public Possessions managed to extort another song from the elusive musical pairing, I gave up all hope to ever see them on a long-player together. That might partly be due to their physical separation with them living in different cities and countries, partly with their other projects and I guess partly just with the fabrics of time and the ongoing search for sonic perfection. Anyway, almost seven years after they first met „Things We Do“ can finally be heard. An eight track long player that features the skills of The Coober Pedy University Band aka CPUB (Tornado Wallace and William Paxton) on dub duties for two songs and to complete the magical musical mysteries of AKSK and their unique print of crystalline chansons and pastels pop. Let me stop my love letter here and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I do.

Acid House re-release alert! For the first time after its initial release on Playhouse Records, Roman Flügel’s sought-after and classic Acid Test 10“ is available again. Now, pressed on pink coloured vinyl (first edition only!) as a Running Back 12“ Double Copy and remastered from the original recordings. But, before writing an essay about the art school of TB303-acid-tracks, we hand it over to the man himself to hear about the genesis of this project: „I’ve always enjoyed Acid House the most when it still has that raw simplicity. When I recorded Acid Test One & Two in the bedroom of my parents’ house around 1993, Acid House was of course already an established genre since it’s origin in Chicago in the mid 80’s. But Acid Test was actually the first time for me to record an Acid House session I was finally happy with. It took the usual suspects of the Roland TB 303, TR 808 and TR 909 Machines along an Ibanez Time Machine Flanger and some cheap Yamaha Digital Reverb, to create the perfect balance of the few ingredients that makes good Acid House so powerful. Two or three attempts of mix downs before the right version was recorded to DAT Cassette - only some of my own favourite records were made like this and I’m happy to see it’s re-release on Running Back so many years later
