Almost one year after his debut LP Feed The Tape, Orson Hentschel enters new musical terrain wearing old shoes. His second LP Electric Stutter, which is almost 55 minutes long, is only loosely connected to his debut. Whereas Feed The Tape was strongly shaped by Classical Minimal Music, Hentschel now incorporates influences of Trip-Hop and Electronic Pop Music. Since his childhood, he considers artists like Massive Attack, Portishead and Björk as some of his most important sources of inspiration. The influence of this kind of popular music is clearly audible. Hentschel's new tracks are shorter, more shaped and reduced in the density of their sound material. Pattern-oriented repetitions, which where in the focus of Feed The Tape, now fulfil the function of sophisticated sub-components of the overall composition and are subordinate to the melodic forms or merge with them. Also the amount of sample-based material has decreased in order to create space for synthetically produced sounds with melodic character. Electric Stutter is more complex and more detailed than Feed The Tape. The sophomore album by the intriguing indie-rock band 'Vita Bergen', one of Sweden's undergound succes stories. Mix of The War On Drugs and Madonna. Since the debut album, Disconnection, was released in 2015, and with the P3 Guld award nomination for Best Pop, international record contract the band has managed to play over 100 shows and sold-out tours. The 2nd of June Vita Bergen will release their second album Retriever. Completed in Los Angeles and produced by their front man William Hellström together with Martin Forslund, who also has worked with Swedish legend Håkan Hellström. April 14 is the release of the first single, Nixon, a song where The War on Drugs meets Madonna. Vita Bergen is comprised of six childhood friends from Gothenburg who started to play together in 2013. Front man William Hellström is studying medicine and leaves the mundane of textbooks to alternative reality of a trance while performing on stage. The resulting success has been a consequence and effect of the stage related concussions, and nails piecing his foot. ”It doesn’t matter if we play for four, or four thousand people, we will always play every show like it is the last thing we do. Shouldn’t music affect you? I will never be satisfied. That day we will break up. We are here because we need to be here!” Following the release of the debut album in the fall of 2015 there was extensive touring in Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Kosovo, which gave Vita Bergen a solid place on the European indie scene. In four years the band has taken themselves from a claustrophobic 8 person bus and illegal nightclubs to over 100 shows all around Europe. In contrast to the apartment where the first record was recorded, Retriever sessions was held in diverse and exclusive studios. Hostels with cigarette buds under the bed, have been exchanged for expensive hotel rooms, skyscrapers, offices in LA and overwhelming responses at sold out shows. All these influences have shaped the sound of the new album. The songs were written in collaboration by the best friend duo of Robert Jallinder and Willliam who at same time dropped out of university to form the band. “The theme of this record are much different from the first album This album in much more direct and touches on concrete subjects that are happening here and now, like you and me, relationships that are really important, when all the make-up has run off. At the same time the whole process after Disconnection we felt like we wanted to get it all back with this release. We wanted to sound less pissed off. We are really happy right now and we want to do pop music” says William Hellström. The rest of the band members include Hampus Bergh, Gustaf Gunér, Jakob Kullberg och Andreas Jallinder. "A living room doesn't give much natural reverb, and it's not in our interest to artificially construct it" Ulrika Spacek return on June 2nd with the release of their second album, Modern English Decoration. Much like their debut album released in early 2016, the band chose to record, produce and mix the entirety of the record in their shared house - a former art gallery called KEN, so named because of a cryptic inscription found above the front door. Not just a studio and home, KEN is essentially the band's hub, a space in which the surrounding ephemera of videos, artwork and even band photos are all created. Given the lyrics often favour abstraction and the vocals can be more impressionistic than declarative, the album title itself offers perhaps the most telling entry point to the record. In part, it's a self-effacing play on an interior design cliché that references the meticulous creative processes the band adheres to. There's also a nod towards the environment in which it was created - a Victorian house turned art gallery turned home studio. Unsurprisingly given the context of its creation, Modern English Decoration might be considered a companion piece of sorts to The Album Paranoia. But there are crucial differences. Modern English Decoration is the band as five people, and it shows. Those who have witnessed the intensity of their live show will instantly recognise the merits in this. The bass and drums provide a versatile anchor, at once soft, then aggressive, while the vocals drift woozily in and out, like druggy hindsight or skewed premonition. With three guitarists in the band guitars were always going to be central to the music, but what is less expected is the dynamic interplay between the trio that suggests a three-headed version of the Verlaine-Lloyd axis at the heart of Television. What's more, the absence of reverb is integral, in part attributable to the ambience of the studio, but also a conscious decision in order to add focus. And focus is the abiding term: this is an album designed to be just so - a 45 minute commitment, a surrender. Record Label: Tough Love Records Style: Indie Rock
