Thanks to some choice words of encouragement from a handsome French admirer, they finally came in from the cold in early 2016. After many years spent daydreaming whilst accumulating an impressive collection of unusually shaped novelty shoehorns, a sudden and overwhelming sense of urgency pushed Paul Carter to lock himself away in an abandoned church in North Wales. Here he frantically scribbled words to accompany musical ideas – some new and others that had been finely balanced on a shelf in an outhouse at the bottom of Ben Clay’s garden for several winters. This return from musical hibernation encouraged his fellow bandmates to wake up too. A realisation that ’some time later’ had become ’well, right now actually’ inspired all of Flotation Toy Warning to dust themselves down and finish the job. So it came to be that ’The Machine That Made Us’ was completed in early 2017. Parts of it were happy. Parts of it were sad. But everything that was difficult had come to an end. (Chk Chk Chk), the venerable New York City dance-punk band, release their newest album, Shake The Shudder on Warp Records. Recorded at the band’s home studio in Brooklyn, produced by longtime collaborator Patrick Ford at Taaffe Palace, and mixed by dance luminaries Phil Moffa, Joakim and Matt Wiggins, the album features a cast of changing singers from Lea Lea, Meah Pace, Nicole Fayu, Cameron Mesirow and Molly Schnick. The album title is a fancy way of saying “shake it off and dance your cares away.” !!!’s post punk roots mean the band will always be pushing forward to new sounds but their tastes remain grounded in some form of funk and increasingly in various electronic dance styles. The idea for the new album was born from jamming in Barcelona, and spending months afterwards cutting those recordings into loops to form new songs. Back at home in Brooklyn, lead singer Nic Offer poured over his roommate’s disco breaks. To push their boundaries, the band implemented the policy of more liberal sampling techniques as well as using whatever keyboard was available with the attitude of “there's no such thing as a bad synth," using sounds they wouldn't ordinarily use. This also includes having multi-instrumentalist Rafael Cohen’s daughter featured on their song What R U Up 2day and the use of horn on R Rated Pictures. Thematically, Shake The Shudder reflects a band that has been together for twenty years. In the band’s early days, they had the typical punk attitude, pointing fingers at everything that’s going wrong in the world to cover up for their own inner turmoil. Now the band, older and wiser, are more comfortable with being more vulnerable, looking inwards instead of reacting outwards. Download Code. The sophomore album by the intriguing indie-rock band 'Vita Bergen', one of Sweden's undergound succes stories. Mix of The War On Drugs and Madonna. Since the debut album, Disconnection, was released in 2015, and with the P3 Guld award nomination for Best Pop, international record contract the band has managed to play over 100 shows and sold-out tours. The 2nd of June Vita Bergen will release their second album Retriever. Completed in Los Angeles and produced by their front man William Hellström together with Martin Forslund, who also has worked with Swedish legend Håkan Hellström. April 14 is the release of the first single, Nixon, a song where The War on Drugs meets Madonna. Vita Bergen is comprised of six childhood friends from Gothenburg who started to play together in 2013. Front man William Hellström is studying medicine and leaves the mundane of textbooks to alternative reality of a trance while performing on stage. The resulting success has been a consequence and effect of the stage related concussions, and nails piecing his foot. ”It doesn’t matter if we play for four, or four thousand people, we will always play every show like it is the last thing we do. Shouldn’t music affect you? I will never be satisfied. That day we will break up. We are here because we need to be here!” Following the release of the debut album in the fall of 2015 there was extensive touring in Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Kosovo, which gave Vita Bergen a solid place on the European indie scene. In four years the band has taken themselves from a claustrophobic 8 person bus and illegal nightclubs to over 100 shows all around Europe. In contrast to the apartment where the first record was recorded, Retriever sessions was held in diverse and exclusive studios. Hostels with cigarette buds under the bed, have been exchanged for expensive hotel rooms, skyscrapers, offices in LA and overwhelming responses at sold out shows. All these influences have shaped the sound of the new album. The songs were written in collaboration by the best friend duo of Robert Jallinder and Willliam who at same time dropped out of university to form the band. “The theme of this record are much different from the first album This album in much more direct and touches on concrete subjects that are happening here and now, like you and me, relationships that are really important, when all the make-up has run off. At the same time the whole process after Disconnection we felt like we wanted to get it all back with this release. We wanted to sound less pissed off. We are really happy right now and we want to do pop music” says William Hellström. The rest of the band members include Hampus Bergh, Gustaf Gunér, Jakob Kullberg och Andreas Jallinder.
