Limited to 300 pieces of colored (orange) vinyl. * Excellent debut album full of wit and charm from a kind of German supergroup, consisting of Paul Konopacka, Torben Leske (both from Herrenmagazin), Kristian Kühl, formerly Findus, on bass the former Jupiter Jones bassist Klaus Hoffmann and on vocals Jörkk Mechenbier, known from Love A and Schreng Schreng & La La. Musically you can easily classify the record as punk, but there is much more to it than you might think at first sight. As a blueprint the intersection of their earlier combos works, the 11 tracks deliver, as diverse and layered as their five composers, a memorable journey, which starts somewhere with good, German-language pop music and reaches over postpunk, rock nuances and songwriter influences, until you end up, yes, with substantial punk. Trixsi's instrumental and lyrical style is multifaceted and varied, ranging from the normal everyday desperation and the doomed attempt at senseless adaptation to the most infantile absurdities. It's a real treat that I would like to recommend to every friend of her former liaisons as much as to every fan of Blumfeld and Tomte. * Glitterhouse

Three Queens in Mourning first gathered in summit to sing celebration of the publication of Will Oldham's book of collected lyrics, Songs of Love and Horror. Alasdair Roberts (Appendix Out), Jill O' Sullivan (Jill Lorean), and Alex Neilson (Trembling Bells, Alex Rex) each arrived provisioned with a small armful of selections nearest and dearest from Bonnie Prince Oldham's far-reaching catalogue. Three Queens in Mourning's takes on these tunes follow naturally from the fit between Will's words and their threedistinctive voices. Alasdair Roberts' sweet, guileless delivery of "Christmas Time in the Mountains" amplifiesthe lacerating quality of the lyric "we need an enemy / I'm saving all my rage for you"; even if at the outset of the song we're told that "time is the enemy," the abiding sentiment-the red-hot word that organizes my memory of the song-is rage. Ali's and Jill's trading of verses on "New Partner" puts a different spin on what had previously registered as an especially mercurial first-person narrative voice, one that swoops between tenderness ("lay back, rest your head on my thighs") and ecstatic self-absorption (breaking it to the ex to whom the song is addressed that "I've got a new partner riding with me"). Add Alex's voice, not only for his madcap "Lost Blues," but as part of the choir on "Ohio River Boat Song" (a song with origins in the traditional "Loch Tay Boat Song"), and these three Scottish accents singing about the muddy Ohio, Smoketown, Oldham County, and Floyds Knobs, I mean, there's not much else this Kentuckian-these are all deeply familiar landmarks-can say. Type through tears. On this back to back records, The Bonnie 'Prince' Billy LP is a collection of three cover versions from Ali, Jill and Alex directory and one original track. Thibault is the long-awaited new project for Melbourne, Australia musician Nicole Thibault. Her drily-titled debut album Or Not Thibault is full of harmonic invention, unexpected arrangements, and atmospheres so lush they make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It moves seamlessly from humour to genuine pathos, from spacious mystery to kinetic energy. Nicole's former band Minimum Chips were a cornerstone of Chapter Music's fabled 90s roster. For a decade or so, Minimum Chips played Moog-driven motorik pop that made them support band of choice for touring artists like Stereolab, Pavement, Bikini Kill and Le Tigre. Nicole's vocals, trombone, keyboards and songwriting helped grow a cult mystique around Min Chips that persists to this day. Nicole took time off in the late 00s to raise a family, but recently returned to music with the support of a new generation of Melbourne pop kids. Or Not Thibault includes contributions from Zak Olsen (Orb, Traffik Island), Bec Liston (Parsnip), Lachlan Denton (The Ocean Party) as well as Minimum Chips co-conspirator Julian Patterson. The live Thibault band currently features Zak, Bec and Stella Rennex (Parsnip). The album's dreamy space-age pop feel has been beautifully captured by producer James Cecil (The Goon Sax, Architecture In Helsinki). Or Not Thibault is a richly rewarding return from a master of melody and charm.

These songs are filled with nuance-- breaths of saxophone and flute, and touches of cello, piano, and pedal steel are hung on the sturdy folk songs of Jess Shoman, whose voice and range cuts through these dreams like a loved one's voice. There is enough new rawness to separate the music of Tenci from other artists working in similar genres.
