Come When The Raven Calls is the second album by Suzanne Langille and Neel Murgai after more than two decades performing together. Langille fuses the rawness of American spiritual blues with Murgai's trance-like percussion and multi-note vocal overtones. The duo are unmatched in their timeless approach to song, a structure they summon from a tinder of melody or thundering charge of the Persian daf. A lyricist as well as vocalist, Langille is devoted to the spoken word. She pulls the listener into a world of ecstatic sorrow and rage that leaves them transformed as a witness to survival. These nine songs are testimonies to death, sorrow and loss. Yet in "Bury Myself Where I Stand," a song written by Langille's sister, the late blues singer Laurette Langille, she summons defiance and freedom. Langille's first recordings were on a string of rare, self-released 1980s LPs with guitarist Loren Connors. Murgai is a multi-instrumental performer, composer and co-founder of the Brooklyn Raga Massive, a raga inspired musician's collective. Limited edition of 300 copies, includes lyric sheet.

Beautiful Dreamer is a two-part suite dedicated to Steve Dalachinsky -- an original among New Yorkers and everyone else; an indefatigable supporter of the avant garde; an ingenious poet; and a close friend to Loren Connors. Connors recorded these two solo guitar pieces shortly before Dalachinsky's passing in September 2019. Afterward, Connors returned to the music, and for the first time, used post-production to transform his real-time improvisations into an ethereal soundwork. It is unmistakably Connors -- a rich, ghostly tone birthed from the blues -- yet a new direction where slowness reveals a spectrum of shifting notes like a small choir, from rumbling baritones to vibrating sopranos. Beautiful Dreamer equally honors the dreams of Dalachinsky and captures the suspension of the Auguste Rodin dancer on the cover.

Expanded reissue and first-time vinyl release of Japanese musician Hisato Higuchi's startling debut. When "She" was self-released in 2003, Higuchi had been writing and performing his style of "Tokyo laborer's blues" for a decade. The delicate song textures of "She" capture the utter feeling of loneliness and a sleep-deprived mind staring off into a blurry urban night sky. The music is "assembled from pedaling shapes of wraithlike guitar, blasted, genderless vocals and thin films of digital electronics and fuzz," David Keenan wrote in The Wire at the time. "On guitar he plays blues as oratorical as Loren Mazzacane Connors, moving from chords that sing like the guts of pianos through slouched single notes, propping up song forms as nod out beautiful as anything conceived by Kendra Smith and David Roback ... One of the finest solitary broadcasts from beneath the Tokyo pavement for a while."
