The Kings of Black-Forest-Surf are back after 15 (!) years with a new album. The two veterans Torpedo Tom (organ, vocals) and Willi del Mare (bass guitar) have with Beat Bröngo (drums) and Manni Mabuse (guitar) finally a BEAT-powerful troupe at the start again. Most of the songs are instrumental as usual and swing between surf, beat and easy listening, among them such hits as "Flatfoot on Texas Pass", "for a handful of oats" or the brilliant opener "L.E.O.P.O.L.D." with vocal intro. With "hab' keine Lust heut zu vertehn" (Blizzards) and "die girls hau'n ab" by the Motown producer trio Holland-Dozier-Holland there are also two great cover versions - with vocals, of course. The secret single hit "Dufte!" actually reminds a bit of the aeronauts. "That's how good a contemporary interpretation of teenager music of the 60s can sound" (original sound Will del Mare).

Originating from a lost property office of the absurd, these gigantic, fresh songs seem like prototypes of a new punk species. The outer form of the third work "Rochus" is as abstract as the message it conveys. Sitting in a surreal bar, the Joseph Boys approach new forms of political activism and dadudadaist protest. There is a flash of lightning everywhere in the punk rooms, a driving aesthetic of opulence. Like a massive elephant man in the porcelain shop of life, they tear with their ass what is at the same time new and grandly built up. Even though these are rock sculptures, which belong to one of the probably most non-materially rich disciplines of art, this work is never static. "Rochus" is vociferous protest and styled provocation, a mood-laden collage cannon about philistine consumption and inner obsolescence. With sleek snotiness and anti-establishment, neon pictures break up the "all grey in grey". All are equal. Everyone is well-behaved. Thanks to "Rochus", Düsseldorf is now without doubt one of the wildest places in the world. The lost and found office of life - it's full, nothing fits in there anymore. Except maybe a carnival on Königsallee. Please get in line, we are driving backwards.
