John Boy Walton make up the holy trio of composers called upon by film maker Jörg Buttgereit. Between the three of them they produced some of the most haunting and beautiful tracks to be paired up with Buttgereit's controversial on-screen works of art. The Nekromantik score displays the dynamic ability and range of the composers. It strikes a perfect balance of beauty, horror, joy and dissonance. The score is both minimalistic and hauntingly atmospheric at the core, and yet remarkably complex at the same time. A wide variety of instruments and sound effects are utilized throughout it's making. Kopp wastes no time displaying his mastery of the violin, which takes center stage, captivating the listener with his powerful, rhythmic, and beautiful solos. He also uses the violin to create some of the strangest tracks on the album, significantly slowing down the rhythm, creating an ominous, off-key droning sound. Kopp is no slouch on the piano either, with a number of beautiful piano interludes that appear throughout the score. In sharp contrast are the tracks which sound as if they are from an old school industrial album. Harsh noise, clanging metal, pounding drums, synthesizers, and various sound effects come together to create a truly dark and desolate picture. The moog synthesizer also makes a few appearances. This is an amazing collection of music that appeals to a wide variety of people. One Way Static released this exceptional soundtrack back in 2015 and it sold out in a matter of weeks. Due to ever-increasing popular demand over the years, today we proudly present to you a brand-new limited vinyl pressing with new cover art.

I Got Funk is a Funk playlist from the 70s. The selection starts with The Payback from James Brown. It’s a hypnotic, minimalist, heavy funk piece with a slow tempo and a staggering bass, drum and guitar trio. The James Brown influence concludes with 3 solo songs from some of his sidemen (Maceo, Fred Wesley and Bobby Byrd) where the horns are omnipresent and enhance this ultra-funky groove. In a more Jazz-Funk oriented feeling we find the classic Do it Fluid from the Blackbyrds and the Black Heat, with an Afro-Funk influenced track from their first album. The beatmakers will surely appreciate It’s a New Day from the Skull Snaps for their drum break sampled over 400 times! The track Jungle Boogie from Kool and the Gang relates to the Quentin Tarantino movie Pulp Fiction, but the band is also playing Sport by Lightnin’ Rod. Who are, according to legend, the incognito backing band featuring one of the Last Poets leaders. The well named Too Hot to Stop by the Bar Kays sets the dancefloor on fire with the horns and its killer groove. While the Scottish group AWB team up with Ben E King to deliver a heavy funk track loaded with horns and a funky guitar. With a more sophisticated production, the track Funk Funk by Cameo shows the evolution in sound and the transition from the 70s to the 80s. The Netflix tv serie’s The Get Down featured the funky disco track Bus Stop by Fatback, where a remix was played in a dance battle in the first episode

Two years later, in 1989 Jörg directed er Todesking (The Death King)'. This experimental style movie, which does not use central characters, explores the topic of suicide and violent death in the form of seven episodes, each one attributed to one day of the week. The Lo-Fi synthesizer music in the movie is dark and quirky and contributes an essential part of the movie's atmosphere, and is something you would very, very rarely hear otherwise. The main theme of the movie, "Die Fahrt ins Reich der Menschentrümmer part I-III" is a classical masterpiece. The score for er Todesking' displays the dynamic ability and range of the composers. It strikes a perfect balance of beauty, horror, joy and dissonance. The score is both minimalistic and hauntingly atmospheric at the core, and yet remarkably complex at the same time. A wide variety of instruments and sound effects are utilized throughout it's making. One Way Static now proudly presents for the first time on vinyl as an expanded release, the complete soundtrack to 'Der Todesking'. This limited vinyl release contains the original soundtrack (released back in 1990 as a limited 7"EP) and unreleased material sourced from recently discovered tapes.

Consisting of Norwegian songwriter Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser and British musician Simon Would, Tuvaband burst on to the independent music scene in the autumn of 2016 with their self-released double A single - Unknown / Running. The songs received international recognition and over 10 million streams on Spotify. The brand new 5 track EP 'Mess' was composed, recorded and self-produced by the duo, in two apartments across the Norwegian capital of Oslo. These beautifully crafted songs capture the same stripped-back sound which has become synonymous with Tuvaband. The theme progresses with 'Eventually Silence' which deals with the aftermath of the trauma. White Vinyl. Throbbing Gristle's first album - the 'second' refers to it coming out at the end of their second year together - must have sounded like it came from another planet upon its 1977 release. Later industrial bands arguably introduced too much 'normal' musical content, but very little about Second Annual Report could be called normal. From its deadpan sleeve to the peculiar choice of structuring the album with three live versions of the horrific Slug Bait and four of the more straightforward Maggot Death, it's a startling document. Simply essential.

Green Vinyl. The most well known TG 'studio' album was easily the group's most subversive. Rather than continue in the obviously provocative vein the pop culture of the time had been accustomed to, Throbbing Gristle threw a great curveball. By parodying easy listening sleeves of the 60s and 70s, TG sugared their output just enough to raise the profile of their work. Once lured in however, the listener is blasted with alternate soundworlds - from the musique concrete minimalism of tracks like Beachy Head and Exotica to their most cited track Hot on the Heels of Love - the blue print for almost every leftfield electro track that followed. This perfect avant-pop record was released in 1979 and the rest of the music world is still playing catch up.

Irish alt-folk and electronica alchemist Seamus Fogarty releases The Curious Hand on Domino. Originally from County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland, Fogarty now resides in London, and the capital provides the canvas for The Curious Hand. It also showcases Seamus’ natural inclination to take his songs and “screw them up,” by applying synthesiser drones and circuit burps, found sounds and spoken-word audio samples that give all of his records such wonderful atmosphere, as if they’re haunted by rogue half-tuned signals from another world. Fogarty’s method of lifting sounds wholesale from his environment and tucking them into the folds of his songs like keepsakes, renders himself at once, artist and archivist as well as twisting the notion of the folk singer’s role as collector and custodian of stories, traditions and cultural curio. The Curious Hand was produced by Seamus and Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Wild Beasts) who also plays on the album. Other notable players include Emma Smith on a plethora of instruments (violin, clarinet, bass to name a few), Rozi Plain (backing vocals), Aram Zarikian (drums) and Seamus’ brother John Fogarty (accordion).

There is a calmness in its melancholy, a beauty in its blues. These are songs that see the mystical beyond the material, abstracted folk ballads awash in memory" ****MOJO. Forming out of a recording project via Scotland and Lancashire, the band first came together in 2015;
'I played in his band and he played in mine' composer and singer Emily Scott says of Rob St John. A natural move saw her similarly recruit Pete Harvey (King Creosote, The Leg) and Joe Smillie (Call To Mind). Inspired by an antique Victorian harmonium that eventually found its way from Northern Ireland to Scotland, Modern Studies' debut album 'Swell To Great', aptly named after an organ stop, was unusually written with the malfunctioning instrument at the centre of their songwriting. A stimulating approach that melds the old and new through their instruments, delicate harmonies and rich compositions that are steeped in traditional and contemporary folk music. The restrictive process even had their wheezy founding member, the harmonium, controlling the pitch as the intrepid band members tuned their tools accordingly. T+he quartet's songs are embedded in the sea and the landscape of the shoreline. Emily Scott's tender lead vocals soar over the sweeping cello, bellowing harmonium and gentle percussive crashes on 'Black Street', 'Bottle Green' and 'Sleep', while hidden in its depths Rob St John, experiments with tape loops that are buried within the layers of their orchestral arrangements. St John, known for his field recordings and art-science projects, cites as his guiding inspiration Brian Eno's experimentalism and pop sensibilities. Unfurling bucolic stories come with Scott's lyrics for each song. With seventeen tracks comprising almost an hour and a half of music, he has ample room to stretch out and to give listeners an excellent portable version of his potent live show. By maintaining a consistently high-quality output that does not merely ride the wave of current trends, multi-faceted producer Marco Bailey has managed to survive through decades of mercilessly shifting adjustments to popular taste in dance music. From his beginnings in the late '80s spinning eclectic sets comprised of everything from punk to old school hip-hop, to his present interest in pure unadulterated techno, the Belgium-based DJ and producer has won over audiences with his keen knowledge of how to squeeze the greatest physical and emotional impact out of a few well-placed elements, along with his instinct for seeking out the most innovative and resilient kindred spirits (his impressive number of professional friendships includes artists as diverse as Markus Suckut, Jonas Kopp, Alex Bau, Edit Select, Speedy J, Steve Rachmad and many more). These combined talents have led to his formation of several different labels: MB Electronics in 2001, the 'limited edition' label MBR in 2013, and lastly the new Materia Music label begun last year. His similiarly named event series, Materia, has also been a truly worldwide 'state of the art' summit for advanced techno artists. The full-length personal releases by Marco Bailey, which stretch back to his mid-'90s period as a trance producer, have been gracefully arcing and anthemic affairs composed of individual tracks that follow that same blueprint. He is now about to drop his 5th full-length album overall, one that he personally claims to be the best overall representation of his sound. With seventeen tracks comprising almost an hour and a half of music, he has ample room to stretch out and to give listeners an excellent portable version of his potent live show. Of course, an epic running time alone is not the marker of a great audio experience, but an epic running time in which one loses track of time completely is - Bailey accomplishes this feat by never rushing the payoff;
by organically building up each track until listeners are fully immersed in his alternate universe. This skill can be heard on banging, sweat-saturated tracks like 'Ash', 'Genetix' and 'Hasai,' but also on comparitively gentle pieces like 'Klauth' (which straddles the line between disciplined electro and something more dreamlike and weightless), or the blissed out 'Suoh,' which feels like a fresh snowfall in audio form. Low-key cuts like 'Rex,' driven by echo FX and other windswept sounds, form natural counterparts to busier tracks like 'Ruth,' with its spring-loaded sequencer attacks, or 'Reboot That Device,' which is ingeniously driven by a psychedelic organ whose sound evolves with various filter settings. Minimalist vocals are occasionally injected into the mix - i.e. on the 'The Darkness' - to impart a subtle message of constant, ongoing expansion into unexplored galaxies without and within. It's as good a definition of the artist's musical mission as any.

From her very earliest work, honesty and vulnerability have been cornerstones of Kelela's art - even when clad in the armor of the avant-garde electronics she so deftly inhabits - and Take Me Apart sees her double down on both the emotional intensity and resonance of her message as well as the sonic seeking she is renowned for. Take Me Apart stands not only as an intensely personal chronicle, but also a defiant and turbulent statement direct from Kelela;
"Despite it being a personal record, the politics of my identity informs how it sounds and how I choose to articulate my vulnerability and strength. I am a black woman, a second-generation Ethiopian-American, who grew up in the 'burbs listening to R&B, Jazz and Björk. All of it comes out in one way or another." The process of crafting Take Me Apart embraced the approach of widely collaborative R&B, hip-hop and pop production while roaming a strange and wonderful path. Working with a cast of peers, Kelela deconstructs many results of their collaborations and builds them back up into pieces of a cohesive whole, effectively orchestrating these multitudes in aid of her singular vision. "It's this tapestry I've knitted together that attracts different types of listeners and challenges them at the same time, often within the same song. That's what I want to bring to my entire catalogue" says Kelela

English musician Charles Howl returns with his second album My Idol Family, which follows on from his 2015 debut Sir Vices. Enthralled by soundtracks and pop music in all its forms, Howl updates classic motifs to create a signature aesthetic. Introducing strings and lush orchestration to dazzling effect, he is comfortable with both wide-open song structures and intimate headphone tracks. With this album Howl reveals his true talent as a songwriter and arranger, mixing well-crafted storytelling with a dry wit, it is also more ambitious, touching on themes of idol worship, friends and the family unit. The album title emerged from the overarching themes of family and idols, and how people idolise celebrities and try to emulate their lifestyle. This is encapsulated in the song "Meet Lou's Needs", about so many people in music trying to copy Lou Reed's look, music, attitude and his drug habits. As Charles says;
"I love Lou Reed but I don't want to see shit imitations of him every time you go see a show or after party." Idols are also flagged up in the song "John Albarn", where he imagines two of his musical heroes as one seamless being - John Lennon + Damon Albarn = John Albarn. The opening track "Death of Print" tells of a 1970s zine in Berkeley which got shut down and disbanded a group of friends. At times rapturously melodic and others jarringly off-kilter, there's a real variety of sounds on My Idol Family. Howl didn't want to be afraid to get cheesy with this record and as a result, it feels more honest. Without the pressure of having to be faithful to one particular genre or trying to fit in to the favoured psych revival of recent years, he draws on eclectic influences to embrace a wider scope, thus creating something that sounds refreshingly unique and remarkably modern.
