Once again, HORN OF THE RHINO and DOOMENTIA are a pair that has come a long way together. Ever since their 2010 'Weight of the Coronation', 'Summoning Deliverance' is their fourth collaboration, including the re-release last year of 'Breed of the Chosen' their very first proper recording originally issued as RHINO back in 2007. The trio might have entered their tenth year as a band but they're still growing and this is, by far, their most adventurous and ambitious work yet. Here, their quite unique mix of sludge, grunge and thrash takes here a whole new dimension. Javier Galvez soulful voice may still be their biggest asset but on 'Summoning Deliverance', they've proving that although they're still heavy-as-fuck, they've got any tricks up their sleeve. If sometimes they plough headstrong into the nearest wall, they also like to suggest in a very subtle yet menacing way that that even darker clouds are ahead. He may not want to spill the beans too much about this ten songs set recorded last March at Koba studio but nevertheless Javier describes this album as "conceptual" and an ode to misanthropy, with every tiny details - from the sublime yet apocalyptic artwork by Nick Keller to the lyrics - working around it. So as advised by the man himself, it's time to just "give in to that sonic maelstrom!" Remember: there's heavy and there's HORN OF THE RHINO!

Hayman returns with a powerful new collection of songs based based on William Morris's Chants for Socialists. Chants for Socialists is an album of 19th century chants made relevant to the 21st century while staying true to many of William Morris's ideals. Darren explains - " William Morris wrote these lyrics in the late 19th century;
they were to be sung to the popular tunes of the times. In only two cases did he specify a particular melody. I saw these as mergency' protest songs, something to draw on in times of strife. I think we are in troubled times. I regard these as useful lyrics. Morris grouped these songs under a banner of socialism and I class myself as a socialist, but these songs, to me, are more about simple kindness and hope. I have dressed the songs with a simple, urban folk sound. Warm, fuzzy guitar distortion sits alongside broken pianos and dented brass. I offer these songs as political, historical curiosities and as something to comfort aging lefties like myself. They are uplifting, songs to be sung in communities. A communal approach was taken in the recording of this album. The group vocals were recorded at two of Morris'ss former homes: the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow and Kelmscott House in Hammersmith. Singers were invited indiscriminately from the local area. Morris's own elmscott' letterpress was used to hand print the limited vinyl edition of the record, and I also travelled to another of Morris's homes, Kelmscott Manor, to record his piano.

What makes the group truly unique and memorable - is something that can't be defined, learned, or bought. Call it talent, magic, or whatever you want, but Greenleaf's got it. Featuring a revolving cast of fellow musicians who share a love of heavy fuzz rock, including Fredrik Nordin (Dozer), Daniel Jansson (Stonewall Noise Orchestra), and Peder Bergstrand (Lowrider), Greenleaf has consistently defined what rock'n'roll was, is, and should be. You put 2001's "Revolution Rock" and 2003's "Secret Alphabets" on and you're going to have a hard time taking them off. The band cooks, because they've got that special ingredient. It's time to rejoice, because Greenleaf is back with "Agents of Ahriman." Like their past releases, "Agents" is a righteous kick in the ass and a testament to the almighty riff. This time, Tommi and Bengt are joined by Oskar Cedermalm (Truckfighters) on vocals, Erik Bäckwall (Ex Dozer drummer) on drums, Jocke Âhslund (Payback) on Hammond organ, and a handful of guest appearances. This new lineup keeps Greenleaf moving forward without losing track of what made them great in the first place. Take note - this is what rock bands should sound like. It's a creativity lab where complex cryptoanarchic ideas rigidify in the viscously flowing Phrygian mode, while the simple and naive piano melodies sweep the listener right back to childhood. Fogh Depot's debut album contains eight stories told by different people in different places. "Anticyclone" feels like a massive hedge-maze amidst towering sand dunes of apathetic lust. "Mining" - is a slow descent into a narrow, murky mine, now and then suddenly illuminated by the guide's flaring torch. Does he even know where he's leading his patrons? Sorrowful and strange, "Nevalyashka" is a nostalgic waltz, bringing to mind an old wooden attic where forgotten toys are gathering dust, while the clear and springy bass in "Sagittarius" can only be the belligerent footsteps of a mythical centaur. The simplest way to define Fogh Depot's music would be to call it seductive brooding jazz with an electronic twist. Fogh Depot conjoin the unconjoinable, combining distorted low resolution samples with pure, atmospheric piano chords, multilayered drones with bebop changes, four-to-the-floor beat with polyrhythm, simple, easy-to-remember tunes with sophisticated effects for woodwinds, springy bass grooves with timeless ambient soundscapes. Live performance targeted at acoustic perception binds this technological hodgepodge together, giving every listener a chance to find the right texture for a rainy evening and a glass of good scotch. Felix K arrives on Blackest Ever Black with a front-rank EP of bleak, bombed-out soundboy electronics. Felix has been active in the underground of his native Berlin since the late '90s, often working incognito. His roots are in drum-and-bass, and he has repeatedly advanced and invigorated the genre with his own adroitly minimalist, dub-centered productions, making important lateral connections to austere Hard Wax-school techno and more abstract electronic realms. With their Hidden Hawaii label and its small galaxy of subsidiary labels, meanwhile, Felix and his co-conspirators are futurists who still kill the old way: doggedly DIY, committed to short-run white label culture and covert action. Even in the context of his wide-ranging discography, Tragedy of the Commons' 17-minute title track is a stand-alone experiment in form: a labyrinthine, slow-burning dread epic, beatless but crushingly dynamic, its frail minimal synth lines wandering lonely amid plate-shifting bass drones and a dense, disorienting assemblage of field recordings. It's exemplary Berlin noir: hurt but stoic, pessimistic but unyielding, and closely attuned to the city's strange psychogeography. The haunted weather intensifies in the hulking 'Silent Money'. While dub is there in the DNA of all his recorded output, this is perhaps Felix's most explicit nod to the source, a slow-motion soundsystem downer, armed with frequencies fit to disinter the dead. Ghosts awoken stick around for Onar Anxiety's thunderous sub-low techno remix of 'Fundamentals', their howled chorus equal in force and fury to the cantering tribal drums. The 12" was cut by Matt Colton and comes in full LP-style sleeve, with download code included. Edition of 500.
