ULVER's fifth full-length album, 2000's Perdition City (Music to an Interior Film) is back. Perdition City continued the experimentation started by Ulver on Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven & Hell (1998), containing elements of trip hop, ambient, spoken word, jazz and electronica. But the album showed the band retreating further, into isolation, a sort of turn of the millennium angstiness, observations of haunting nocturnal (noir) beauty and urban decay. It was described on its release as moody, atmospheric electronica, cinematic in scope and evoking a soundtrack for an imaginary film. Kerrang! praised the album, noting This ain't rock 'n roll. This is evolution on such a grand scale that most bands wouldn't even be able to wrap their tiny little minds around it. AllMusic concluded that Perdition City evokes just the sort of desolate, rainy-night-in-the-city atmosphere it sets out to create. We at Jester/Neuropa are very proud to finally present this ultimate LP edition of this classic album. It has been repressed by popular demand (make no mistake). The first 500 copies of this on LP were manufactured and sold during Ulver's European tour (2010) and never even made it to any mailorder or distributor. Our 2nd press (500, and identical to the first vinyl press) that same year flew right out the window and people have been asking about it ever since. So this time, after much ado, we decided to give this classic the full 'audiophile' treatment, a new hi-end analogue mastering specifically for vinyl (courtesy of Jaime Gomez/Orgone Studios, London), 180 gram 2xLP and with the previously never-on-vinyl hors d'ouvre EP Metamorphosis from 1999 on side D.

The Spanish ambient pioneer is the focus of the Amsterdam label's next archival release. Music From Memory has announced details of Odisea, a retrospective compilation focusing on the work of Spanish ambient artist Suso Saiz. The Amsterdam-based label says that Odisea has been two years in the making. The collection draws from Saiz's solo recordings from 1984 through to the present day. The music is taken from his three solo LPs and an obscure cassette-only album, with some unreleased material also featuring. Music From Memory revealed that it has plans to release another compilation shining light on Saiz's collaborative projects. In addition to his solo work, Saiz formed the Orquesta De Las Nubes group in 1980, recorded film soundtracks and worked alongside Mexican artist Jorge Reyes. He was also part of the one-off Música Esporádica project, which Music From Memory co-founder Tako Reyenga discussed in his 2015 Playing Favourites feature. Odisea follows a recent 12-inch from Music From Memory that featured both versions of On Retinae, a 1980s Japanese synth-pop curio from Dip In The Pool.

San Francisco Odd Fellows Hall 16 May 1981 SPK were an Australian industrial music and noise music group formed in 1978. They were fronted by mainstay member, Graeme Revell on keyboards and percussion. In 1980 the group travelled to the United Kingdom where they issued their debut album, Information Overload Unit. In 1983 Sinan Leong joined on lead vocals. The group disbanded in 1988, two years later Revell and Leong relocated to the United States, where Revell has worked as a Hollywood film score composer. According to Australian rock music historian, Ian McFarlane, SPK were at the forefront of the local post-punk, electronic/experimental movement of the late 1970s ... [their] music progressed from discordant, industrial-strength metal noise to sophisticated and restrained dance-rock with strange attributes.

We're not sure about their flatpack furniture credentials but when it comes to putting together a band, they've not done a bad job. "When it comes to musical references I see ourselves in the swedish rock tradition of bands like THE HIVES and REFUSED, combined with some american stuff like THE BRONX. The intense imagery that comes through ones mind when thinking about a nuclear explosion;
from the heat searing all in its wake, to the visage of shadows flat across the street which less than seconds before the explosion where living beings, it is truly total evisceration. This imagery presents itself well when dealing with thrash metal, and I think Maze of Terror captured what my mind paints when I think of that scene with their new release Ready To Kill Maze of Terror hit a home run with their vision on this album, they have come to the table and slayed out tightly constructed songs with catchy melodies with masterful songwriting including shredding drill guitars, pounding drums, slamming bass on top of venomous acid spitting vocals. In the ten songs on here, you are going to get your fast as hell speedsters, your evil venomous thrashers, and you will get some more mid speed songs that are able to not only show Maze of Terrors maturity as songwriters, but willingness to achieve something interesting. I think one of the best achievements on this release is Maze of Terrors masterful songwriting, all members are in tune to what make a thrasher happy, and these songs are perfectly written to engage any style of maniac. The songs on this release are made for live shows;
they are energetic and nonstop fun. Right from the beginning, the opening song Rotting Force delivers as one of my favorite openers in the past five years, all fires ignited to bring out intense energy as the riffs are on point and the drums pound and bass enters both ears. While Lycanthropes displays their command of writing a truly addictive thrash song, followed by There will be Blood you can honestly not ask for a more perfect three songs to start an album. The song Bringer of Torture shows a shift of style, from the opening guitar to the vocal melody, and in no way is this song any less heavy as the rest, but it is an interesting varied treat on an already brilliant dessert table. The adrenaline rush you receive from the pounding drums and dentist drill guitar during the opening of the song Protectors before being presented with one of the best riffs in the entire album, it is songwriting perfection and displays everything I love about this band. Another stand out that highlights this clever unification of sound is the song Violent Mind of Hate, from the bass intro to the great traveling riff, as well as the lyrics which I find the best on the album, just brilliant. What really sets this band apart is that they know exactly what they want to achieve, and in turn it affects the listener positively, we appreciate the work they have put in. The ten minute monster Giles De Rais shows the band wanting to express their creativity with a long song, my only complaint with this one is it was not more progressive in its execution as it tends to drag me out often before the fantastic guitar pulls me back in. I do love the vocal effect unleashed during this song as it is extra evil and I hope they utilize it more on their next release. There is not one bad song on this release however, and the ten tracks will stick with you for a long time.
