While the connection between Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu was established back in 2006, their partnership truly blossomed with Alma (Ota Music, 2012), a beauty of an album with a soft sell approach. That record—quite possibly the most moving item in either man's discography—prioritized heart over all else, and this follow-up date follows suit. Eros—the god of love—serves as muse and sculptor on this easygoing outing. Sosa and Fresu are both in fine form, lulling the listener into a space where the many different faces of love serve as guides, and they bring a smart mixture of passion and prudence to bear in the music. That's evident from the start, as "Teardrop-Ya Habibi"—a clever take on a Massive Attack song, featuring vocalist Natacha Atlas—takes flight. Arabian sounds, hints of neo-soul, and moody notions are all blended and molded into a shapely design that's simply mesmerizing. Elsewhere these two move in different stylistic directions while maintaining that same balance, addressing the need for emotional release and restraint. "Sensuousness" and "What Lies Ahead"—pieces which utilize the rich cello work of Jaques Morelenbaum—capitalize on candidness. Lyricism and wistfulness take hold and never let go. Then there's "Zeus' Desire," a number that blends new age sentiments with quaint thoughts and positive spirits;
"My Soul, My Spirit," a work that features Atlas and operates in a cinematic realm not too far removed from the work of Lisa Gerrard with Hans Zimmer;
and "Eros Mediterraneo," which opens on Fresu in a pensive state before shifting to sunnier environs. All of it is of a piece, yet each track has its own identifying markers and personality traits. Both Sosa and Fresu are masters of putting across moving thoughts. They say more with less, artfully color their true voices with electronic effects, and place equal value on atmosphere and substantial thought throughout these understated tales of love

In addition, he has shared the stage with a number of jazz stars including: Sonny Stitt, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy Witherspoon, Urbie Green, Lee Konitz, Louie Bellson, Joshua Redman, Phil Woods and Frank Rosolino. The Frank Cunimondo Trio is also a fixture of the Pittsburgh Jazz scene. Frank's most popular recording "Feelin' Good" (from the album The Frank Cunimondo Trio Introducing Lynn Marino [MOVLP1821]) was used in a commercial by a popular beer brand and became an international hit. In the 80s Frank owned a jazz club in Pittsburgh called "Cunimondo's Keyboard Jazz Supper Club." In 1989, he was voted "Best Jazz Pianist" in Pittsburgh. His style is most often compared to pianist Bill Evans. The Frank Cunimondo Trio originally released Sagittarius on Mondo Records in 1975. It includes a cover of Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon". On the album Frank Cunimondo plays acoustic and electric pianos, string ensemble, synthesizer, conga and cabasa while Ray Russell plays bass and Lenny Rogers drums. The album was voted as one of the Best Fender Rhodes Jazz albums by the Never Enough Rhodes blogspot. The audio is remastered for this edition.

On 17 November 1961, John Coltrane played at the Granada Theatre in Walthamstow. On 23 November, 55 years later, free jazz legend Evan Parker made this six track recording in the same space with John Russell and John Edwards. This recording has personal resonances for Evan: he attended Coltrane's performance 55 years ago at the Granada. Evan Parker: "John Russell, John Edwards and I are going to record in that same cinema. It has had the usual chequered life of classic old cinemas of the post war era in the meantime, but the resonances of that day in 1961 will be an inspiration." The original members of the band, Curtis Fowlkes (who started the JPs with me while playing for dancing elephants in the Big Apple Circus), Bill Ware, Brad Jones, EJ Rodriguez and myself are supplemented here with newish (last 10 years) violinist Sam Bardfeld and a second drummer, the wonderful Ben Perowsky. Original member Marc Ribot plays on one track. After years of trying other guitarists in Marc's absence, we finally found a different way to broaden the band's palette in this recording by adding Ben as a second drummer. This new CD finds inspiration in the intuitive abandon that characterized our first two CDs recorded in the late 1980s. The glances exchanged with Rémi Bouyssière and Martin Wangermée, both of precision and exemplary relevance, are only the visible part of the quality of interaction that makes the trios of exception. After his great success as a new discovery through playing on tour and in the studio with Art Blakey’s creative and inspirational group, the Jazz Messengers, Freddie Hubbard made a dozen LPs over 16 years for Blue Note and Impulse under his own direction. It was no wonder then that a big record company made him a lucrative offer in autumn 1966. All in all, Atlantic Records released six LPs and the very first, entitled "Backlash", is still until today the best of the bunch. Three numbers by Freddie Hubbard, one by Bob Cunningham, and two by friends, provide the basis for a successful transition between hard bop and soul beat. Hubbard made high demands on his fellow musicians James Spaulding, Albert Dailey and especially the bass player Bob Cunningham and the drummer Ray Appleton because they had to cope with the ever-changing beat. Right from the very first note, it is obvious that Freddie Hubbard had Fats Navarro and Clifford Brown in his heart and fingers. All the titles are excellent. Of special note, however, is "Little Sunflower". The sound colouring of the flute harmonizes particularly well with Hubbard’s brass, and Ray Barretto’s contribution is more than mere decoration. You’re certainly on the right track with this LP, no matter whether it’s the beginning of a Freddie Hubbard collection or a further contribution to a large jazz collection. This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. “Living Here” is the new album by Hermine Deurloo, chromatic harmonica player and teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Her sidekick on “Living Here” is composer/pianist Rembrandt Frerichs, who is recognized by the international press as an adventurer on the piano. He’s played in the legendary Jazzclub Birdland in New York and his music has taken him to many festivals and clubs around the world. Hermine and Rembrandt have been working together since 2013. On “Living Here” they are accompanied by Jörg Brinkmann on cello and Jim Black on drums. They bring a mixture of strong melodies and exciting improvisations. The album is recorded at Fattoria Musica studio in Osnabruck with engineer Chris Weeda. Hermine: “Chris has worked 10 years with Toots Thielemans and he knows all about the harmonica sounds. We are sort of neighbours in Amsterdam.” “Rembrandt’s songs are very melodic. His way of playing is transparent but also adventurous. This album has a lyrical character. To provide a counterweight to the melodic voices, I have also chosen cello instead of bass. Jörg Brinkmann is obviously a master. Jim Black is one of the best drummers in the New York scene and has a narrative way of playing. In the studio, we had an instant click with each other. On the album there is also an element of instant composing, some pieces developed from ideas and sketches that were created there. ” The album title ‘Living Here’ is inspired by city life in Amsterdam, where Hermine was born and raised. “The vibrancy, diversity and dynamics of the city are a constant inspiration. The title also symbolizes living and making music in the here and now, improvising with the conditions and opportunities out there.”
