180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL Ruth Brown was an American singer-songwriter and actress, sometimes known as the "Queen of R&B". She was noted for bringing a pop music style to R&B music in a series of hit songs for Atlantic Records in the 50s, such as "So Long", "Teardrops from My Eyes" and "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean". For these contributions, Atlantic became known as "The house that Ruth built" (alluding to the popular nickname for Old Yankee Stadium). In Brown's first audition, in 1949, she sang "So Long," which ended up becoming a hit. This was followed by "Teardrops from My Eyes" in 1950. Written by Rudy Toombs, it was the first upbeat major hit for Brown. It was Billboard's R&B number one for 11 weeks. The hit earned her the nickname "Miss Rhythm" and within a few months Brown became the acknowledged queen of R&B. Ruth Brown Rock & Roll is an album featuring tracks recorded between 1949 and 1956.

Originally released in 2006, the album blends Swedish-influenced new wave music with a sassy and spunky delivery by vocalist Maja Ivarsson. The album was recorded at Studio 880 in Oakland, California, and produced by Jeff Saltzman (producer of The Killers' Hot Fuss). Music from the album was featured in the television show CSI: Miami, the MTV reality show The Hills and the TV spot for Geico in the United States. In support of the album The Sounds played over 200 shows in 2006, over half of which were in the United States. Upon its release, Dying to Say This to You was well received by music critics. The cover depicts The Misshapes' DJ Leigh Lezark on the left and her friend Alexis Page on the right.

The album features Robben Ford on guitar, and reached a peak position of number sixteen on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. Yellowjackets is a fun album. The Yellowjackets made a splash with their first record, an accessible mixture of Jazz, Rock, and Funk. Ricky Lawson provides Rock beats to the material, Jimmy Haslip's bass work is as Funk as it is Jazzy. There are some nice, chunky grooves that give the album a sense of substance, a wistful track in "It's Almost Gone", and a neat melody tucked into "Priscilla", all of which contribute to the album's charm.
