Running a record label offers adiversified and challenging field of activity. This is particularly true when speaking of tiny independent re-issue labels where one, two or three guys have to take care of everything. Tracking down musicians, collecting their stories, writing the liner notes, creating the cover artwork, mastering the songs, promoting the release, communicating with pressing plants and distributors, and so on. Most of the tasks mean fun with the exception of one thing which nobody here at Tramp is keen on doing: writing the sales notes. Far be it from us to praise our release to the skies. Naturally, we are pretty much convinced of the sheer quality of each song, otherwise we would not have invested so much time and efforts into completing those compilation albums. One thing which surprises us is that despite thousands of Rare Groove compilations on the market neither of the songs to be found here has been compiled elsewhere yet. A fact that not only fills us with pride but also determines our claim for the future. As for now we have done our homework and it is time to let the music speak so that the Gunn High School Jazz Reunion, Keither Florence, Robert Cote, Plas Johnson, Charlie Chisholm Boss-tet, and all the others get the recognition they so richly deserve for their talent and work. When Tramp opened its doors in the early 2000s it was just for the fun of it. A business plan did not exist and nobody involved with the label had studied anything music related. It was just a bunch of crazy record collectors and music lovers with a simple idea: to share their favourite music with the world. Nobody could have known that this would last for 15 years - and there is no end in sight.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of UGK’s first album, Get On Down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. Back in 1992, Southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fanbase that was chiefly raised on rap from New York and LA. The Geto Boys and 2 Live Crew had made strong cases by the earliest ‘90s, and Pimp C and Bun B were ready to make their own. Most of the trunk-rattling bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes – in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. Self-produced with additional work from Houston locals Bernie Bismark and Shetoro Henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. You can hear the beginnings of the group’s true greatness in these early lyrical workouts – several taken from the regional cassette-only EP The Southern Way that got them signed to Jive – with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. They may have been done early-on, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t crucial to UGK’s legacy – cases in point being the three singles: “Something Good”;
a charismatic update to Bill Withers’ “Use Me Up”;
and “Pocket Full Of Stones” (the latter featured on the Menace II Society soundtrack). Beyond the singles, deeper cuts like “I’m So Bad,” “Feels Like I’m The One Who’s Doin’ Dope” and “Cramping My Style” made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come

The Wedding Present release a four track instrumental EP called Home Internationals on the El Segell del Primavera record label. The track-listing is... 1. Scotland 2. Northern Ireland 3. England 4. Wales Wales is taken from The Wedding Present’s recent and critically acclaimed album Going, Going... while the other three tracks have been specially written and recorded for the new release. David Gedge was inspired by the challenge of writing a number of instrumental tracks for Going, Going... and decided to use Wales as the starting point for an EP of further instrumental pieces. Freed from the restriction of a lyrical narrative the music frequently becomes more experimental and delves deeply into David’s love of pop, rock and film scores for inspiration. England also features poet, playwright and novelist Simon Armitage reading his poem The English. The EP was also inspired by the ‘Home Internationals’ which was an annual football competition between the United Kingdom's four national teams: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (the last of whom competed as Ireland for most of the competition's history). It started in 1883 and is the oldest international football tournament in the world. The competition ended in 1983

Wayne Jackson and Lula, the great Berlin / Manchester Connection band, release their second album "Slow Black" as The Dead Lovers. If The Dead Lovers were a movie, they would be a road movie. Their authentic sound is melodious choral hymns that lie over dirty-pounding blues riffs mixed with a pinch of folk. He is a reminiscence of handmade indie rock with a nuance Americana - rousing and irresistible. The core and creative motor of the band, as well as charismatic front duo on stage, are Lula and Wayne Jackson. With appearances across Germany or as Support Act u.a. They have already made a name for Charles Bradley, Imelda May, The Baseballs and Roger Hodgson. Wayne, a native of Manchester, won cult status with his first band The Dostoyevskeys in the 90s, when they played Oasis as a backing band, shortly before their release and the highlight of the Britpop Hypes. Wayne moved to Berlin, published two solo albums, and wrote and sang with Paul van Dyk the song "The Other Side", which landed on the charts all over the world. For the co-production of the first two solo albums of Bela B, he won a gold record and enriched his live band Los Helmstedt as a guitarist. Lula's roots can be found in a small village in Bavaria, from where she embarked on an impressive and varied path. Today, she works successfully as a singer, songwriter and photographer in Berlin. A duet with Lee Hazlewood on his last album and their long-term collaboration with Bela B, u.a. As a co-writer and singer, are just a few of the highlights that characterize her as a creative musician and inspiring artist. In the summer of 2016, The Dead Lovers made the logical impact of their love for vintage sound and again traveled to San Diego in the extraordinary Lost Ark studio, where they had already recorded their first album. Copenhagen-based black metal quartet SOLBRUD will release their third album, titled Vemod, on June 9th via Indisciplinarian and Vendetta Records. The first sonic excerpt from the forthcoming album has been made available alongside the album’s artwork and release details. Since the release of SOLBRUD’s self-titled debut album in 2012, the band has been an immense power in black metal, which was only emphasized by the 2014 sequel Jærtegn in all its beautiful grimness. Both albums and the quartet’s emotional and intense live performances have since then consolidated SOLBRUD as a band with a special, artistic vision unfolding in uncompromising and boundary-pushing black metal. Now, SOLBRUD is ready to unveil their third full-length, Vemod — Danish for sadness or melancholy. It is an album proclaiming the imminent fall of mankind musically accompanied by yet another envigored take on the band’s wuthering and melodic variety of black metal.
