Austin's Brownout unleashed the Brown Sabbath Vol.I project garnering acclaim from outlets such as NPR (50 Best Albums of 2014), Pitchfork, hardcore Black Sabbath fans and most important of all Ozzy Osbourne himself, while staying true to their Latin Funk roots. Brown Sabbath Vol. II cranks up the level, rocking harder than the original with a brew of ballistic horns, pummeling guitar-riffs underscored by a funky, driving rhyhm section. Ghostland Observatory's Aaron Behrens makes a guest appearance sharing vocal duties with Brown Sabbath lead vocalist Alex Marrero. Hitting harder than it's predecessor and keeping closely in line with the original Sabbath material, Brown Sabbath Vol. II crosses over more to hard rock territory. Brownout's powerful, signature full horn section, dual-guitar attack, funked-up drums and latin percussion return with a vengeance, adding even more weight and texture to create a dark hybrid sound that resonates with groove-laden intensity unique to their interpretation of Black Sabbath's tome. An 8-piece outfit formed ten years ago by members of Grammy Award-winning Latin revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma, Brownout has evolved into a musical force all its own. With a succesful tour of Brown Sabbath under their belt including Bonnaroo and Austin Psych Fest while earning their third Austin Music Award, the band has continued to produce music that is unflinchingly progressive, while evoking the classic influences of artists such as WAR, Cymande and Funkadelic. It's time for another 7" foot-stomping bonanza from Rocafort Records, digging deep into the rich New Orleans repertoire of the Carbo family. All brothers were heavily involved in the 60s Crescent City funk scene, so tight and 'on the one' that it's easy to understand why Hank suspects a bit of plagiarism from the Godfather himself. "Fox in a mini skirt" is slice of soulful cheek and attitude, based on foxy beauty who once slunk across the dance floor at one of his gigs. Popular on the Northern Soul scene, it matches vocal urgency with a driving beat fuelled along by manic drums, guitars and horns. The irresistible background hey hey hey's and funky funky broadway's make it instantly memorable and immediately danceable. "Bad Luck" (not to be confused with the Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes classic) is a slower paced funk stinker, screaming out JB horns and wah wah guitars à la 'Ain't it funky now'. In keeping with the depth of New Orleans songwriting, the lyrics are worth a listen and reveal a heartfelt plea "If it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all". In fact, the whole song is based on a spell of unfortunate circumstances involving Hank's sideswiped new car and an erroneous warrant for his arrest. However, the only real crime committed here is that at 2'22", this track is shockingly over too soon! Record Label: Rocafort Records Style: Soul

Compiled by DJ, record collector and label boss Gilles Peterson, part two of Brownswood Bubblers Twelve is here. Dividing the first vinyl edition across two releases, the idea remains the same – shining a light on new and under-the-radar talent. The roll-call of artists who’ve appeared on the Brownswood Bubblers series is impressive. Boasting alumni like Flying Lotus, Dam-Funk and Floating Points, the compilations have long championed the rising stars of underground music. The first edition since 2014, Brownswood Bubblers Twelve picks up where the last one left off – by looking to the acts set to make waves in 2017 and beyond. With a whole three years having passed since the last Bubblers was released, too much exciting music has amassed to fit onto one release. For that reason, it’s been split into two parts – making room for an expansive spectrum of new sounds, this second part follows the first edition released in April (followed by vinyl in June). The new compilation arrives as Peterson’s independent label Brownswood Recordings (from which the series takes its name) tails off celebrations for its 10th birthday.
