Copenhagen progressive grind quartet PISS VORTEX is back with a new EP titled Future Cancer, set to hit in April through their cohorts at Indisciplinarian. As an early bonus, the horde unloads the EP’s first single, “Den Moderne Mands Lænke,” through a premiere at Decibel Magazine. Since their shattering self-titled 2014 debut LP, PISS VORTEX has been touring as well as playing local shows with the likes of Brutal Truth, Retox, Mutoid Man and Today Is The Day, and more, and even laying waste to Roskilde Festival with a crushing performance in 2015. While these shows have proven the band as one of the most explosive and exciting extreme new music acts at home and abroad, the quartet has been mocking boundaries in the rehearsal room writing material for the new EP. Produced once again by Jakob Reichert Nielsen (Town Portal, Lack), the six songs of Future Cancer were recorded live in the studio over two days, displaying a clear progression of a band falling into place just to dissolve into the next experiment without fear or nothing to prove. They have already created their own game and it shows. Heavier. Grimmer. Faster. Slower. More galvanizing in its extreme shape and expression, more challenging in its intuitive progressiveness, more mind-bending in its emphasis of spaced out psychedelica and finally more just more overall fucked up than ever. Those who still remember the important grunge band Union Youth from the beginning of the 2000s will recognize two faces here. Maze Exler sings and plays again guitar, Michael Borwitzky sits again on drums. Ole Fries (guitar) and Markus Krieg (bass) also appeared in the districts of Union Youth. The now released single »Down Under The Hill« is actually already five years old. Now the four musicians call themselves Pictures and have recorded with "Promise" a record, which was made to clean and enjoy. The combination of such unobtrusive band and album names brings some search engines to their limits. This must be symptomatic of the apparent conventionality of the music, but it is bursting with convincing emotionality and originality: this record is made for the uninhibited melodists. In "See The Sun," it sounds magical and ringing in the background, "Fall" is almost like a steady stream, and "Let The Music Shine" is almost too radio-like. The heart is the modest romantic "Emily", in which Exler's sometimes fragile voice hovers wonderfully in the foreground. Here it does not scratch and itch, the album is easily digestible, but nevertheless complex, and it is true, without being bleak.

Little Beat Different Issues is a new series focused on reissuing music from Eastern European regions previously unavailable on Western markets. The first release is a compilation by project ORM, the moniker of Czech producer team Petr and Pavel ORM. Originally formed as a disco group in the late 1970's, pioneers of electronic dance music in former Czechoslovakia, Petr and Pavel quickly rose to fame as the country's eminent pop producers. Working with the then icons of the communist Czechoslovak scene such as Karel Gott and Josef Laufer, they stand behind countless hits from that era. However, not many knew that the duo also released their own records, whose sound and artistic direction was different to their mainstream pop productions. This compilation cherry-picks the tracks from 4 different albums released between 1979 and 1984.

The twelve tracks on this CD include five spotlighting Hartford, five featuring Mitchell, and a couple sung by Pete Seeger. Hailing from Denmark, the two piece instrumental noise rock-duo Fossils is one kick-ass combo rarely seen these days. With one bass and a drum kit Fossils use their simple setup to bring forward a storm of energetic, punky and yet unpredictable rock music. Having released one full length called "Meat Rush" in 2011 and the live EP "The Veal Thing" in 2012, playing several shows in Denmark with acts such as Liturgy, ZU, Iceage and Health as well as touring the US, Germany and Iceland, the duo has stirred up a strong reputation as a powerful live band, ready to kick the audience in their head with a firm musical boot of metal and punk infused rock music. As Chris Dowden from the American band Landfill beautifully describes it after witnessing the dynamic duo live in Houston, Texas: "Fossils burned everything I know about music to ashes and pissed on the ashes. It was a great show." Now Fossils have unleashed their second full length, the short, sweet and genuinely pissed off "Flesh Hammer." And what a hammer indeed. This fiery record consists of 20 intense minutes and 10 precise, noisy and ever-entertaining no-bullshit pieces of music produced by Danish sound-enigma Q (Beta Satan, Entombed a.o.) and created by a band that has refined their trademarks: Short creative bursts of pushing yet complex rhythms combined with thunderous riffs striving to create and environment of groove and headbanging as well as unpredictability and surprise. Always interesting and always animating to bang that head, Fossils pour out their unique brand of instrumental, noisy rock'n'roll firmly rooted in punk, metal and hardcore. "Flesh Hammer" was recorded in the band's rehearsal room during five days in July under an almost unbearable hot summer. The band had decided that at all songs needed to be recorded live with no overdubs and only complete takes was acceptable. The idea was to preserve the band's live energy and to cut to the core in regard to sound and expression. No unnecessary effects, just a wall of sound consisting of bass and drums. The production should be simple but massive, like when Fossils perform live. As unique and mad as Fossils are musically, they are visually likewise in an absurd class of their own. The artwork for "Flesh Hammer" is a photograph of the band's logo and the album title laser engraved in original American Beef Jerky (a salted and dried beef meat) done by a sinister tech-wiz in an abandoned Philadelphia factory after midnight. And thereby Fossils continue their tradition for incorporating meat in either titles, visuals and artwork as done on previous releases. Tasty!
