Black vinyl, 300 copies. Although Eero Raittinen was mostly known as a pop singer in the 1960s and then rose to brief international fame as the lead vocalist of Tasavallan Presidentti, his 1970 solo outing is a more down to earth affair. Recorded with a superstar lineup (Jukka Tolonen, Paroni Paakkunainen, Vesa Aaltonen, Eero Koivistoinen...), Eeron Elpee was a more personal thing for Raittinen. Owing a lot to the British R&B movement of the sixties, Eeron Elpee moves smoothly between more standard blues and moody jazz arrangements. Commercially the album was a failure, as people wanted pop hits from Raittinen. But as a cult item the album's worth has only grown during the past five decades, and Svart Records are happy to bring it back on vinyl. He also put beat poet Jack Kerouac's words to music for the track 'Be Bop Lives (Boplicity)' The Anthology also includes his interpretations of Brazilian songs 'Waters of March or 'Two Kites' written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and 'Empty Faces' co-written by Milton Nascimento. The more soulful side of Mark is illustrated by the Stevie Wonder song 'Looking for another pure love' and 'I Don't want to cry anymore'. His music was very popular on the London Jazz dance scene in the late 80's and 90's and still is today having been championed by Gilles Peterson and many other DJ's. The song he wrote about the scene 'Ding Walls ' is included, this being the first time that track has ever been released on Vinyl. It takes a very special singer to take a well known Beatles song and re-interpret it with a Big Band arrangement, and make it his own. Ten days after his death in May 2015 the first band rehearsal was under way and Jenny Evans dedicated all of her energy and time into the project Be what you want to. Axiom has significant historical importance by being what is quite possibly the first European free jazz record, even if it was not released at the time. Recorded in Copenhagen in October 1963, it should have been Tom Prehn Quartet's debut album for the Sonet label. But by the time the test pressings arrived, a couple of months later, the music already sounded old to them and Sonet subsequently pulled the plug. A few sleeves and labels had been printed but only two complete copies survived, making it one of the rarest jazz albums ever. Axiom is expressive, full frontal free jazz of the highest order, and to think it was created by Danish musicians, most of them barely into their twenties, in 1963, is frankly mind-boggling. On the other hand, Scandinavian audiences, especially in Denmark and Sweden, had already welcomed controversial musicians like Albert Ayler and Cecil Taylor with open arms.. Needless to say, we're very proud to release this album for the first time on vinyl. The original sleeve has been painstakingly recreated by Kim Hiorthoy.
